I'm in the market for a gaming laptop. I am searching far and wide for a gaming laptop for around $1350. I can't get anything with alienware at that price, I have a Dell EPP account but dell's xps systems seem weak to me. Any suggestions? I want 4GB (DDR3 preferred) of ram 300ish gb HD @7200 RPM, and Nvidia GTX 260 (1 gig) for the card. Screen size doesn't matter much to me. I find the 17 inch screen a little too bulky for a laptop and I have a nice desktop monitor if necessary. Am I aiming too high for the pricepoint?

I got a gaming laptop once. Cost me over 1200 bucks, but it was poorly designed, got hot very quickly, and could not even run the simplest games without overheating. It was a crappy brand, Averatec, so I am sure that had something to do with it, but I would just make sure to check that out with anything you buy. It might be worth to invest a little more into something that is designed to cool all the firepower needed for a gaming notebook.

Funny thing is, since then all I do is buy cheapo laptops and my current integrated graphics HP runs most games just fine... at least for my needs.

Laptop generally is not good for intensive gaming. As above mentioned heat being the biggest issue. But if you want something with affordable price and comparable specs to an Alien Ware then your best bet is Acer. I would recommend ASUS laptops as they are only a bit more expensive than Acer but as you might have known ASUS is a well known brand in the computer parts industry. with over $1300 a laptop good enough to play games on shouldn't be hard to find with ASUS.
