Gaming Moniter?

Geez, for that price...not really. 16ms is not bad, but it's not great either. As long as you don't play any first person shooters then you should be okay.

Response time seems to play an important part of determing how well an LCD monitor performs for games, and I'm using a 16ms monitor right now. There's a *slight* impact on graphics when people are running around & explosions are going off, but it's not too bad. I would imagine, therefore, that the Sharp LCD you've mentioned wouldn't be too bad for gaming. The contrast ratio seems a bit low, but the built-in speakers are a nice touch.

I play nothing but FPS on a 1024x768 native resolution, 25ms Sony LCD and it's really no worse than a CRT. Granted when I first started it sucked ass, but once you adjust, it's realy not noticeable, and it's worth the difference for watching movies.

so this isn't a good price for this type of moniter?

For a 17 in monitor that's good but not amazing. Add a good coupon thpught and it may be hot.

If you're willing to double your price you wan wait for a dell deal on the 2005 20" widescreen. They go less then $400 on a good sale.

Yeah, not really the best price unless you could add another coupon. I also noticed that the coupon on staples.com expired yesterday (5/21) so you may want to check to see if that is valid. Dell runs a 19" lcd for around 251 shipped quite frequently here lately. I'd rather pay 50 bucks more for a 19" myself.

Only drawbacks to the 19" you're probably referring to are the 20ms response time and only having DVI input (no S-video, composite, analog, etc.) It's still an excellent monitor for the price (particularly if you don't care too much about its performance for games.)

[edit: ah, yes, if gaming is not important, then I agree that that 19" LCD monitor is an excellent choice. In fact, I suggested it to my father, but he didn't seem too interested. *shrug* Incidentally, I'm using the 2005FPW which Ackbar has (and has mentioned in the past)...and Sid Meier's Pirates! looks very pretty on it. :) I was primarily interested in a widescreen monitor for the sake of movies, but so far every game I've tried on it has benefited, as well.]

That's the one. I primarily program, so gaming is not that big of a deal for me. My card also has DVI out... If I want to game I use the 19" CRT I have. That 19" lcd is a great deal for the price though. For gaming, I use a CRT, for everything else, I use an lcd.

Dell has had that sale for a few weeks now actually. I would wait until the end of july, when it's dells end of quarter. They always blow out items then.

I got the Hyundai L90D+ and am very happy with it, no noticeable ghosting yet. It has an 8ms response time and is one of the monitors to get for gaming. I had the 1905fp from dell but returned it due to ghosting, just wasn't a good enough monitor for gaming, although it's great for everything else.

damn i think i missed out on that dell moniter. i guess ill wait for that dell blow out mtx was talking about.
