im really loving these games! i picked up aria about a month ago, and it was a great game, after beating that, i re-started playing circle, which ive had forever, but never beat, and right now im about 55% through and stuck at the zombie dragons =op

one thing i noticed is that circle is waaaaay harder than aria!i found aria pretty easy, i only had trouble with 1 boss(death) but circle is much more challenging, and i even find myself dying to regular enemies!

can anyone who's played all 3 compare harmony to the other 2? im totally gunna pick it up when i finish circle

Hey Punq, Yea I have all 3, circle of the moon was a pain to play on a regular gba :). Didnt beat it because of that. I loved Harmony, I picked it up on release like circle, and beat it within a few sittings....long sleepless ones. You may have seen my debate about paying retail for aria, I picked it up last week and beat it a few days ago.

There does seem to be a debate about harmony vs aria. I think they are both pretty equal as far as quality, IMO aria was pretty easy to finish though. Pick it up if you can, even if u can only get cheap bootleg :(

I hope to see a symphony port on the GBA :)

I have been following this site for about 5 years now, its worth checking out if you are a castlevania fan.

very very minor spoiler in harmony below

Simon Belmont is unlockable in harmony.

end of spoiler

yeah ive been to that site quiet a few times. on my old computer i could get the vampire killer rom to run! not on xp tho =o\

I loved Aria, and have been meaning to pick up Harmony. I'm somewhat considering Circle, but the card things doesn't sound too interesting magicwise. I've also heard that the screen is really really dark. However, it's only $15 at my Kmart, is it still worth getting?

circle reminds me ALOT of super castlevania, where aria reminded me og symphony

Yeah I believe Konami toned down the difficulty of the other games after feedback that CotM was too hard. I have not played HoD(I want it, I'll get it online and I need to get Rondo of Blood too) but I own and beat AoS in 2 days. I total I think it was only like 3 hours or something including the true ending. Its a shame they're so easy. I think if they were harder then they could potentially be the best Castlevania games and even edge out SotN. Plus CotM isn't hard at all once you get the thunderbird summon. Ah sorry bout my rant. Anyway Castlevania rocks!

Not as good as the others, but it is Castlevania. Do you even have to ask?

I really liked them all pretty equally. I have very little time to play games anymore, so a game has to have a VERY high fun factor to be worth my trouble. I have not played Aria, but Harmony and Circle were both a lot of fun, with exploration and secrets galore.

I'm not sure I really understand what is considered so hard about CotM though. Look, Lucas (from The Wizard) I am not, but that game didn't give me a whole lot of trouble outside of the endurance battle-room or whatever it is called (which you can skip if you want, though I did get through it).

If you like Circle, I would say Harmony is well worth your time. And yes, it did remind me a bit of Symphony as well.

I thought the last battle in Circle was hella hard. Dracula is a bitch. I have not finished Aria (like 80 percent through in 12 hours, mainly from leveling up) but t is no where near as hard as Circle

I recently sold Harmony because I will never play it(I have far too many games)

i guess i didnt have the best ending in aria, but "dracula" was cake, beat him on the 2nd try

Circle of the moon is worth the 14.99 or whatever, the card system is just an item find system that lets you have a magic power for the item found. The fact that they are cards has no real relavance. I still need to beat Lament :(... and maybe pick up the 2 gba games and n64 games that I am missing... I heard the n64 games were pretty bad, ive had the chance back in the day to pick up those up, super castlevania 4, bloodlines, all locally at walmart etc for 7.99 sealed.

Unfortuately I only picked up bloodlines, but at least i can play it on my nomad :)

I haven't played the second two yet, but i'm a recent GBA SP owner and picked up and beat Circle of the Moon (I'm on my fifth playthrough!) and I love that friggin' game. Since I've played it from the start on an SP i think the darkness of the game was artificially inflating the difficulty of the game to many. It's challenging but I don't think it's much harder than Symphony of the Night.

I still need to get bloodlines

on the CotM front. If Dracula hits you more than 3 times you are screwed, and the cards are hella important to beat him(for protection from his attacks)

sounds like mike tyson

The only Castlevania game I own - and I mean the ONLY one - is Circle of the Moon.

I'd love to get the others, especially the other two GBA titles, but they're too much in my area. It's damn near impossible to find them, and when you do, they're guaranteed to be a minimum of $30. That's too much for my cheap ass. :?

I'd also like to find the NES and Genesis games, but the same holds true there - they're rare and pricey.

Anyway...I'm working on a second playthrough of CotM in Magician mode. The game's much harder now - I can only take three or four hits before I die. My stats are crap, even with the armor and the boosts from the cards. Oh well...the game is still fun. :D

The perfect Castlevania game would've combined the music of Circle, the graphics of Harmony, the wide variety of regular weapons in Aria, the magic system/special weapons of Harmony, the difficulty of Circle, and the dash/backdash of Harmony.

naw its not as hard as mike tyson. all it takes it a set of headphones and the mastering of that jump (the one that shoots you up to the top of the screen)

If you do not have headphones or the speakers cranked up do not even attempt the fight as it is all based on sound
I picked up Castlevania 4 at the toysaurus in november of 2001 for 10bux new.
thats a good buy. I got my copy for like 5 a couple of months ago at a local shop.

I remember seeing those. They were re-released by Majesco. They were almost the same except for a B&W instruction manual.

Im not sure about circle, but Harmony and Aria share the same engine,

btw 800 :p

Yeah they share the same engine. But at the time the castlevania had a really hard time getting in good sound because of the graphics. They were able to get in a much better soundtrack with Aria but it still pales in comparision to CotM because the graphics were not nearly as good so the soundtrack was just about SotN quality. So the engines in Harmony and Aria are similar but Aria is so much better in the sound department.

Yea it sorta sucks, I was wondering why people said the the GBA doesnt have a sound chip in it...and I was confused at the comment.. It seems that it its shares the main processor for the sound so its give or take.. Which I guess explains why some of the more graphic intensive 3d games have no background music at all :(

I played Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow, but I have such a hard time even finding Harmony of Dissonance (at a reasonable price) that I've never played it. Does anyone know where to find Harmony?

Yeah like 5 months ago i picked up Aria for 15 bucks new. I loved it but when i get to the end of the first level the thing freezes so i never got to play it that much. I would have returned it but the place was 45 miles away and i was leaving the next day on a trip.If i see this again im picking it up.

in aria of sorrow, in my ability list, the one ability that lets u jump if u push L BUTTON in mid air, it says in lid air...is this on everyone elses copy or do i have a messed up one?

It is quite common, to find bootleg/pirated copies of gba games on ebay, then to find legit ones. In addition stores such as ebgames/gamestop *mistakenly* get these in as trade and resell these.

On a side note, does anyone happen to have a link to the translations of what Soma's voice clips in Aria of Sorrow?

HOD is the black sheep of the trilogy. While the graphics are better than COTM, the level layout and music (especially the music) drops a few levels in quality. Some did like it and it is the more rarer of the three.

IMO:
Best: Aria
Worst: HOD
Middle man: COTM

Regardless there all great games, that every CV fan should play.

well i beat the dragons today, did come card collecting, and death was sooo cake!

but now im stuck on camellia...but who wants to kill a naked chick riding a giant skull anyways?

I just picked up CotM today. Managed to find a legit copy in Chinatown, of all places. Ripping through it and I may have to purchase AoS from TRU before I head back out to the West Coast.

I got very lucky yesterday.

I bought a complete & mint Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow on Ebay for $18.00 with buy it now. $3.85 S&H. The seller has over 500 sales on Ebay and 100% positive feedback rating.

It was too good to pass up.
