CAGiversary!
i was wandering how u play ranked matches with friends because i saw alot of clans on ranked match on the same team how do u do that?

Looks like somone is trying to cheat ;)

Ranked matches are supposed to be for indivdual games where friends AREN'T supposed to be able to play with each other and be a group of fucking cheaters against a ragtag newly formed team.

If you really want to play with your friends, there's nothing wrong with unranked matches.

But if you must CHEAT, go ahead and just find your friend on the list of games. Tons of people do it anyway.

I disagree--it's NOT cheating. You want to play with people who know your playstyle and who will function as a team. I hear too much bullshit when I play ranked matches--whining that someone needs the frags to get 100 frag tags and get the achievement. I will not play ranked until it's fixed. I'm tired of playing with individualistic jerks--it's about the team.

Kudos to Cursor. If you must play with "your" team then wait till it's fixed.

Otherwise, as it stands now, I won't play ranked matches with anyone that seems like they know each other.

if you want to play with 1 friend, what i do is...

- invite him/her to private chat
- set the same filters [ i like ranked, execution, 5 rounds min/max ]
- find a room with 1, 3, or 5 people
- tell friend the host's name
- try to join at the same time [ to prevent hosts from starting right away when they see a 6th person join ]
- if you get in the room before your friend, let them know which side to join so they'll be prepared
- goto private chat room options, and go to main game lobby.

or host a game and tell your friend to search for it.

While we are making threads on circumventing the rules -

Anyone want to start a thread on how to quit a ranked match once you realize everyone on the opposing team is a clan/friends and not get negative reviews?

You can disagree all you want, but the bottom line is that it is cheating. Ranked Matches are supposed to have an even ground for all players and what you get is what you get. You're not supposed to pick and choose your teamates and by doing so you are indeed Cheating.

I don't give a damn since I don't care about rankings, but don't try and label it as something else. Bottom line, you're cheating

Just because Epic shipped the game with a broken feature doesn't make it cheating.

Agreed. What would you call Halo 2's matchmaking feature? Built-in cheating? I mean, GoW is pretty much built around teamwork and communication. I like to have fun when I play online. A way I have fun is to play with my friends, who I know well, and who will communicate and provide teamwork. Is that cheating?

This whole problem is pretty much the reason I've yet to play a ranked match in GOW yet. I don't think there is anything less fun than being on a team where the 3 other players know each other and are concerned with their ranking. Check that, add in not being able to be heard and you've got a winning ranked matches formula for a team-based game!

They should fix this stuff, but it doesn't concern me too much because I'm not really concerned with building my ranking. Sure, I'd like to be able to apply the games I'm playing with friends towards getting some achievements, but I'll get by.

Playing ranked is a serious pain. You have assholes who want their friends to join who just chain boot people out of the games so you're stuck looking for half an hour.

Ranked matches were much funner within a month of the games release, all the stacking really hasnt made it all that fun. Just stick with player matches unless you want to stack yourself.

To call a spade a sapde, this is dead wrong. This problem is caused by a set of arbitrary rules that has been established by Epic. It's rules which were set up because of programming difficulties, not because of fairness. As has been noted in this thread, there are ways to get friends into matches. It's just too much of a headache for me to bother with. When I want to play with 2-4 friends, the matchmaking system should be able to find people for us to play with who are of similar skill.

Shipwreck, you're exactly right. Play the game and enjoy the unranked matches. You have a great attitude--if you see me online, my gamertag is CursorTN--would love to play with more people who think like you.

I'm really waiting for a patch to this game. The broken teamspeak thing means that you'll have to restart the match every once in a while--I can't believe this major technical bug exists. On the more minor bug side, I've fallen through the map on the rooftops level a couple of times. That's really annoying. I saw a guy fall through the level with the freight train, too.

I play ranked with my friends all of the time. We tell everyone we don't know that we know each other and our host's name so they can get friends to join their team. Gears is ALL ABOUT COOPERATION. If your team does not communicate well you are screwed. On my team everyone has a specialty-one sniper, one chainsaw, one midrange (machine gun), and close range shotgun. Having strategy is extrememly important. I was talking to some guys at 1up and they agree that it is stupid that you are unable to earn acheivements with your friends in multiplayer.

It's not a broken feature, it's the way ranked matches were supposed to be. This has already been stated by Microsoft and Epic. Just because you want an upper hand (aka cheating) over other players does not make it legit or fair. You guys seem to be confused about the purpose of Ranked matches. There's a perfectly good home for you people in regular player matches.

Whether or not it makes it more fun for you is irrelevant. Xbox Live does not exist for only you. There are plenty of people out there who play solo and are stuck with a disorganized team where somone forms a team of 4 players who play all the time together using this cheating method. Is that really fair?

Exactly. I always tell people I don't know that we are playing with a team so they should understand what that means or quit before the match starts. No one ever gets angery at me...

 So we should stop playing together so you can have more fun, right?

Dude, I was wondering about that. When I tried out multiplayer, I was getting dropped from matches for, like, 20 minutes. Finally I gave up and started co-op, and I've never been back. Got to say, this game needs a serious mp interface overhaul.
 So we should stop playing together so you can have more fun, right?
I already said before I don't give a shit either way since I don't play GOW nearly enough to care about rankings. However you people are trying to justify your cheating.

your comment really doesn't make any sense either. you just regurgitated my argument you quoted.

bottom line is they made ranked matches that way for a purpose.

They made it that way on purpose because they are lazy. They said MS wouldn't allow them to do a party system matchmaking on the 360, but that's been proven to be bullshit because Saints Row has it and Halo 3 will have it.

I regurgitated what you said, because the same holds true for you. Live is not about what makes Zoglog happy.

And I don't care about rankings, I just play to have fun. It's not fun when your opponents quit like they do in player matches.
