I've read in numerous reviews (namely IGN's and 1Up's) that Geometry Wars supports and plays better with the classic controller. But neither site has mentioned whether or not you can use the original gamecube controller as an option. I'd hate to have to shell over an extra $20 to have what many consider to be the superior control scheme when I could just use a controller that is already sitting unused in a drawer.

I checked around and people are reporting that is does not support the GC controller, just the classic controller.

That's crazy, it'd be so much simpler (and cheaper) to just plug in the old GC controller without making people pay more money for a superior experience. Bah, I think I'll wait until this game is $10.

well given the way the game controls on the 360 its hard to get much simpler left stick movement , right stick direction of fire, right trigger bomb. Seems kind of lazy to not make it at least work with the regular WiiMote/Nunchuk setup "does" it at least work with that?

It works with the Wiimote+chuck, but everyone is saying that it plays kinda crappy that way. Shooting by looking around with the wiimote is awkward to say the least.

Classic Controller is the way to go, although even that is being called inferior to the 360 controls due to the 8-point 'notches' that the sticks hit as they move around the outside of the housing.

if you've got a wii and you don't spend the money for a least one classic controller, you're not getting your money's worth. i love that controller. it's been great for countless vc games and a few wii games here and there.

There's a GeoWars on the Wii? Holy crap! I value entertainment at $5 an hour and GeoWars has basically paid for my 360. It's the best game ever...

Anyone see a good deal on this game?

It 'evolved' into a 2008 release.

Side topic: any other Wii60 (ugh!) owners willing to hold out on this title under the reasonable hope that it will become an XBLA (and/or retail release) by the end of '08? HD, Achievements, and--perhaps most importantly--the 360 controller make it a worthy gambit for me.

Last week's "EGM Live" seemed to very subtly hint that such a thing might happen, or at the very least, they were campaigning for it.
It 'evolved' into a 2008 release.
In Europe. It's out here now.

Why would you not have a classic controller? It's a must for any SNES VC game, good time for the NES-style games, and very useable for most N64 titles. Plus it's shiny and NEW!

What the Shaq--I thought it was delayed here, too! Oh well, good for us, I guess. And I do have a Classic Controller. Two of 'em, actually. It's just that I hear those 'notches' impede the precision of the controls, and we all know this game is about precision.

Also, I just feel at one with the controller when playing Evolved on the 360. It's the one game that I can feel confident (based on Leaderboards) that I am/was easily in the top 1% in the world. Of course, that's more due to the obscene amount of time I put into it in '05 and '06 and most people not caring that much than it is skill.

I'm sure one or more zealots will assume that it's me just hating the Wii again. Yeah, you guys see riiighhht through me!

This game plays great with the Wiimote+Nunchuk.

It controls just like Tanks! from WiiPlay (the only reason to own that game), and it is very, very satisfying.

I'm going to have to give it another try. Been playing it with the classic mostly so far. Love the game though.

Ah after reading about this game I really want to get it. How are you guys liking the game so far? Is the single player hefty enough to warrant the $40 price tag?

I loved Evolved on 360 so this was worth the $$. The gameplay has a ton of new variety that is really fun. Its going to be a time waster for months to come.

There is no reason in the world they could/should not have made it work with the GC controller, but alas it doesn't. I guess they just didn't want to spend that development money on implementing it or got into a crunch schedule. It should totally be an option.

My guess is that Nintendo is pushing developers away from the GC controller. I mean, let's be objective here... if they wanted people to use it, they'd still make them.

Sure, a few high profile releases like Smash Bros will use it, but that slides by on a grandfather clause.

If there is a controller to be used instead of the remote, I'd certainly bet that the big N wants it to be the Classic Controller, and they'll continue to push people in that direction.

Like others have said, however, if you own a Wii and buy VC games, you're doing yourself nothing but a disservice if you don't already own a CC.

You have to have at least one classic controllre for the Wii. I have one, 2 Wavebirds, 2 GCN wired controllers, and then the Wiimote. I prefer the classic GCn controllers to the Wii classic controller. Personally, I think Nintendo discontinuing production fot he Wavebirds/GCN controllers was probably their stupidest move this gen so far. It was probably to free up production space, but still. If people were buying them then what do they care?

I agree that not continuing to make Wavebirds was a stupid move.

However, I have to imagine that Nintendo wants to get away from the GC image. GC, in the minds of many people, was a failure. Also, they probably don't want people to connect that they're playing their 'brand new next gen system!' with an old controller. It seems silly (especially considering that Sony has done it for about a decade now), but it makes sense for marketing purposes.

They want you to use Wii accessories on your Wii console. They aren't pushing BC, it's just a nice bonus.

Now... let's even just look at it from a monetary point of view. Would Nintendo rather you buy a $35 Wavebird... or a remote and CC set that's going to run you $60, total? I mean, really... look at Smash Bros... think about how much money there is to be made just on controllers ALONE for that game. It's a 'party' system, so people will need more than one or two controllers... so might as well force them to buy the most expensive possible, right?

... and, you notice that RE4 made no real mention of the Wavebird support, right? Has to be a reason.

Frys in LV had it for $29.99 so I picked it up. I'm enjoying this game a lot. I use the classic controller and its a lot better. Can anybody tell me why the side of the box is not white like the rest of the Wii games? Just odd

^That way it sticks out like heroin track marks on a white arm on your Wii shelf.

Damn game is addictive. I gave it to a friend to borrow last week just so I can get other stuff and games done. Now I am shaking to get it back. Withdraw.
Is this like.. waggle motion or is the cursor your ship?
How does this control..?
Move with the nunchuck, and point with the Wiimote to control where you shoot. I think it works pretty well. :)
