GL2 - Videocamera

Darkfire001

CAGiversary!
Hi, Checking to see if anyone knows a great place to buy a GL2.

Right now the best I've found is $2,000 with $250 Rebate from B&H Photo. So $1,750 overall, which is great but just checking around.

Thanks

These cameras are pretty expensive, so good luck finding one cheap. They are really awesome though. My friend's work really improved when he got one.

Well, I'm with a filmgroup right now and for (2) Years we used the ZR45 (Consumer Camera) to great success (believe me tough), and we've been looking to get a new Videocamera for a while.

I've used the GL1 & Gl2 a lot in the past, so the GL2 was definitely on my mind, Along with the VX2100 (Looks nice, and solid Lenses available), and DVX-100A.

However price wise the GL2 appeared to be the best videocamera overall right out of the box in the $2,000 range (DVX100A, is $3,500+), and so working towards getting it now :)

Also the project to adapt a film lenses onto the GL2 & XL1s, had some terrific results so just another awesome perk.

As for projects, we'll be filming a Short sometime in December to test the Camera and then work on plans for a "test" feature film in the Summer :)

DVX-100a users represent!

oh, just me? Well anyway, I have some friends in a sketch comedy group (olde english) that use an XL-1, and I used to use a ZR70, so I do have love for Canon too.

I got my DVX-100a for just shy of 3k, but I'm pretty sure it was a grey market dealer. I've only used it on occasion, because I don't want to log hours on it until I've finished a few more scripts.

BELIEVE ME I would get a DVX-100A if it was an option, but I figure with the steady retail value of the GL & XL series, that I'd rather use it for 6-12 Months and get a feel for upper end recording, then move onto a DVX :)

But as you've stated, it's far better to make a good script, then to spend that time getting better equipment.

I bought a VX-2000 about 2 years ago and after learning the in's & out's of it while writing my script, I plan on beginning production of my film early next year. The GL2 is an excellent camera as well, but the VX2000 shoots better under shitty lighting conditions (night time). Good luck with the search!
