So, I'm going to Florida, specificaly Fort Lauderdale, tomorrow for an engineering conference. It's going to be at Nova SouthEastern University (yeah I don't know either). Me and my buddy will be presenting about AES encryption. Uhh, its kind of complicated to explain on here, but the CAG description is that one of the commercial uses of AES is on Sony PSP media for copyright protection.

The conference is 3 days long, but no way in hell would we want to be stuck in there the whole time. Any CAGs know of this school or are from around this area? Is there any clubs, beaches, bars or anything remotely interesting to do around there? Most importantly, are there any video game stores in the vicinity? :)

There's ton of stuff to do down there. You can always drive down to miami, its only 45 minutes away. I was just down there for spring break. My old roommate is going to NOVA, she starts next semester. But year, there's stuff to do down there. Just do a search online for clubs in luaderdale.

I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks. Our professor is actually the one driving us, I doubt he will want to drive 45 minutes to go clubbing. Maybe he could be the wingman.

There's tons of stuff to do in Ft. Lauderdale. It's a beautiful area - the beaches alone are huge and spotless. You'll have no trouble finding things to do. Have fun!

While some parts of Ft. Lauderdale aren't the nicest areas, there are some places like Riverwalk that are easy on the eyes.

If you don't mind a small drive, Miami is more realistically 30 minutes south from Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach is an equal drive to the north. Both are decent sized cities with a big night life; Miami's downtown area and South Beach, as well as West Palm's Clematis Street and City Place.

Just head east for a couple minutes and you should find yourself at a beach.

I live in Miami but I work in Davie at NSU (the school is not actually in Ft. Lauderdale, rather a suburb of it). I work for an outside contractor that provides janitorial services for the school. I am there every day TU - SA from 10pm until 6:30am. Do you know which building you're going to be presenting in? There's one game store that's on the same road and side as the school (University Dr.) just a minute away. If you're facing the school it's a little bit to the right before (or after depending on which direction you're coming from) a Mexican restaurant called Tijuana Taxi Co. I've never been to the game store though, so I don't know how it is. Said restaurant gave me diarrhea, so don't eat there. There are two TRUs in Broward County (where you'll be), one in Plantation and the other one in Pembroke Pines. Don't bother checking them though, neither one has jack as far as remaining green tag items. There are a few Targets in the area which don't offer much in the way of clearance either. Plenty of nearby malls with the usual EBs, Gamestops, etc. The Ft. Lauderdale beach area is not as close to the school as everyone thinks, you'll need to jump on 595 East and drive for about 15-20 miles, lots of traffic if you go at peak hours. At times it'll take you an hour or more. Miami to the South is a worse drive, 35-45 minutes non-peak, 60 minutes minimum peak. Imagine my commute everyday.

I'm originally from NJ also (born & raised) but I moved down here permanently a year ago. Drop me a line or PM me and we'll chat or exchange cells. If I don't respond for awhile it means I'm sleeping because I work third shift.
