Depends on what you like, I mean there's tons and tons of awesome arcade games out right now.

Puzzle: Peggle
Fighting: Street Fighter HD Remix (or wait for Marvel vs. Capcom 2)
Action: Castle Crashers
Shooter: Geometry Wars
Retro: Smash TV, Galaga Legions
Strategy: Worms, Texas Hold Em'
Remake: Rez HD

I've played The Maw and freaking love it but I have yet to pick it up. Also Aegis Wing is free on XBLA so thats a must have download.
 
I can not stress it enough, Bionic Commando Rearmed.

Oh and I found Castle Crashers to be over rated. Unless you have people to play it with I would avoid it.

EDIT: Oh and for 400, Marble Blast Ultra is a fun game and Small Arms is an excellent Smash Bros. clone.
 
Carcassonne and Bionic Commando are my favorites and give you the most value for your points IMO. Carcassonne is a phenomenal game with infinite replay value if you have at least one other friend that has it and is willing to play you. And the Bionic Commando challenge rooms alone were worth the price of admission .. and then on top of that you get a great remake of the original.

Anyway...

All of these are 800 or less:

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Banjo Kazooie, Geometry Wars, Castlevania: SOTN (good game but I just personally dislike the series), Cloning Clyde, Marble Blast Ultra, Pac-man C.E., TMNT 1989 Arcade, UNO, Worms, and there are probably a ton of others but I pretty much stopped playing video games a month or so after halo 3 came out...


And honestly I really loved Aegis Wing. It was great 4 player fun and it could get pretty crazy- not to mention it is free...
 
I would recommend Geometry Wars 1 & 2 (especially 2), Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Ikaruga, Rez HD, Castlevania:SOTN, Bomberman Live, Mega Man 9, Space Invaders Extreme, and Lode Runner (if it ever goes for 800pts again).
