Good CPU bundle?

I'm looking to build my first PC and starting with looking for a good CPU. I found a bundle at Tigerdirect that looked decent:

I'm planning on using this for gaming. Would this be a decent starting point? Or, does anyone have any suggestions for good CPU deals (especially bundles) or any other advice for picking a CPU?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm new to this and trying to get it done right the first time.
 
I have that MB and CPU and I like them both, especially the Q6600. I have a little faster ram but that isn't a huge deal. That deal looks pretty good to me, I'd say after you've researched stuff plenty go for it.
 
Its a good bundle, i would've bought it but since i live in FL i get raped on Tax and then its like $24 to ship on top of that. Great bundle for those who don't need to pay tax though. I also just ordered a Q6600 from teh egg and cant wit till i get it tomorrow.
 
if you look at that bundle, it has Vista (which is horrable in my opinon) but more importantly, its the Upgrade edition, unless you have another version of windows to install, you'll need a retail or OEM install (I'd recommend getting a copy of XP home for 90 bucks from newegg.com)

For gaming, your MUCH better off going with a faster dual core CPU, than a quad core. (most applications won't use much out of the 3rd and 4th cores, if they even use it at all)

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Even if a quad core might not be heavily used right now, is it at all likely that programs in the near future will start to use it more and run better with it?
 
honestly, a lot of programs BARELY use Dual cores, never mind the 3rd and 4th core of a quad. and by the time they do start using the 3rd and 4th cores, we'll probably be up to 8 and 16 cores, and you'll be ready to upgrade again ;-)

I'd go with the faster (and cheaper) dual core (the 3.0 GHZ is GREAT for gaming) and put your extra money left over into a better graphics card.

It doesnt come with Vista. The Memory is called OCZ Vista Upgrade Edition (i.e. for marketing purposes) Notice the list that breaks down the bundle it shows this:OCZ Vista Upgrade Edition 4096MB PC6400 DDR2
 
If you want to future proof your PC then definitely spring for the Q6600. It is a ridiculously good OC'er, if you have OC'd anything before you can easily crank it up to 3.0Ghz on just air cooling. That would match the best dual-core speed right there.
