Good deals on an HDTV around 19"?

I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any good deals on a 19" HDTV. Plus or minus a few inches is ok, as long as it's a really good deal. I'm ok with 720 res also.

I don't even think they even make 1080p HDTV or even 19'' hdtvs. You might have better luck finding a monitor with DVI/HDMI inputs and buying a TV tuner.

I think the main thing is cost-effectiveness. Seems an awful waste to buy a 19" HDTV when you could get a 19" LCD monitor that has the resolution of 1080-capable screens. Thats why you won't get a whole lot in the way of recommendations, and also why a lot of the bigger named manufacturers won't be selling below a certain sized HDTV....the cost-effectiveness is lost once you cross a certain barrier and can no longer maintain the 1080 resolution range.

Best of luck in your search however!

What do you plan on doing with that small of a TV?
Monitors generally have higher resolutions than HDTV's when comparing across same size in terms of physical dimensions so you may even get better than 1080

Mainly for my Xbox. I don't want to have to take a TV back and forth from my dorm and home, so I just wanted something small and inexpensive. But it seems like everyone is going to recommend a monitor, and I realized I can get VGA cables for my 360.

I seriously hate that we can't recommend you something besides a monitor in this case, but really, it'll end up the best for your needs. Scope Toys'R'Us for a deal on the VGA cable new for 10 bucks. That's where I got mine versus 40 elsewhere.
Wait until Black Friday, even 32 inch tv's are expected to sell for $350 that day.
And if last year was any indication, the lines will also be 350 hours long to get one of them.

I dont know how much money you are willing to spend, but I am also in college and I am currently running my PC off of my monitor as well as my 360. My monitor actually has 2 HDMI ports as well as a DVI, VGA Component and even Coax so if you has HDMi for your 360, its even better!

I am using the Samsung T260HD, its a 26 inch monitor, at with, in terms of an hdtv, 1080p. Mine was around $600 but I know they are cheaper for smaller ones. My friend saw mine and went and bought himself the T220HD, same model but only 22 inches for almost half of the price I believe.

I love mine, and i know my buddy really likes his, so if you can spend the money I would highly recommend http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Touch...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1224487832&sr=8-3

That is the 20 inch model, so obviously its the cheapest. The larger screensize you go, the more expensive, but if you can spend it, I can tell you its great.

I've been checking out that TV and it's so awesome! I really want that now because I love Samsung products, and that seems to have all the features I would like. But it is more money than I'd like to spend... I hate money... Or maybe I like it too much, that's why I don't want to spend it? I really am a CAG.

Flat-panel TV prices set to dive, analysts say
By PETER SVENSSON – Oct 15, 2008

NEW YORK (AP) — A combination of weak consumer spending and a peak in manufacturing capacity will push prices for flat-panel TVs down to unprecedented lows this holiday season, according to analysts.

David Barnes, analyst at NPD Group's DisplaySearch unit, said prices look set to decrease rapidly starting on "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, and lasting through next year.

It's even possible that 32-inch LCD TV sets, which now usually cost $600 to $700, will go as low as $350 in stores. That's a significant level: It's close to the long-run average price for a TV in the U.S., Barnes said Tuesday.

He believes these smaller sets will be the big sellers this year, as consumers, and possibly also credit-card companies that had fueled big-ticket spending, tighten their belts.

"We're about at the point where the 32-inch set will be the commodity," Barnes said Tuesday.

Larger 40- or 42-inch sets are already dipping below the $1,000 level, another important psychological barrier.

Barnes' colleague Paul Gagnon said the industry is coming out of a period of rather tight supplies of LCD panels, but more factories are now coming on line.

One factor that could boost sales is the impending shutdown of the analog TV broadcasting network in February, which means that older TVs that receive TV over the air will need a converter box. That will drive people to the stores to figure out their options, Gagnon pointed out. New TVs can receive the digital signals that are replacing analog.

But it's still not certain that abundant and cheap flat panels will lure consumers who have seen their home values and 401(k) funds decline.

"There's a lot of conflicting pressure on the consumer," Gagnon said. "It will be interesting to see which factor wins out this holiday season."

Wait if you can.

Well I got a Sylvania HDTV LCD that is 19 inches, and it was at 300$ at kmart, it is not the best brand, but for that price it's ok, and my 360 looks amazing....Was going to buy a 32 in, but decided for that small one, since it is for gaming only....Later will get a bigger one. LC195SL9

IT seems it is the right price around 300$ for that model, and it has 2 hdmi, one compoent, s-video, and a coaxial output also.Check the reviews, and decide.

Thanks Broly for making me bite on the Samsung 20". I too was in need of one. I just saw the Olevia 42", but I'm not going to bite on that. Rather, I can't since it's not available in my area, nor do I have a place to even put something that big.

Is that prediction including all the HDTVs as well?

BUY THIS: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201338 (may be out of stock by now, but whatever, you can get a good 22" widescreen LCD anywhere for under $200)

I'm serious. This would be BY FAR best suited for your needs.

• Way lighter than a TV, even an LCD.
• Way better resolution, and on November 19th that will be native resolution on the Xbox. You'll be watching in well over 1080p.
• Plug in your laptop. Seriously. Plug in your laptop. Get a wireless keyboard and mouse and you will be in study heaven. I can not tell you how much dual-screens on a computer are a productivity boost. I cannot go back to living on a single screen.
• Way way cheaper than ANY HDTV you'll find.

Think about it this way: for way less money than you'd be paying for a TV, you get both a TV for your Xbox AND a high-res computer screen. It's win win all the way around.

My 2 cents. I don't work for them or anything.

Plus a nice 22 inch screen is far big enough to tide a single-user over until you can get out of college and enjoy a decent 42" or bigger screen like God intended.

Um, if one connects to a plain monitor with no composite or component inputs, wouldn't one have to get some sort of VGA cable?

edit: yeah... that monitor just has DVI and VGA. It would be great for 360 with its 1st party VGA cable. But no real smooth (rather cheap and quality) way to connect older systems (i.e. ps2).

If OP is just using it for 360, go for an LCD.

Sorry for the double post, but there seems to be a Samsung $30 rebate if you purchase an item before October 31 (Halloween).

http://webobjects.cdw.com/webobjects/images/rebates/full/18182.pdf

It's also posted on other sites. It bumps down the 20" to $269. Which is about the same price as the 19" 720p tvs at Walmart B&M.

Even though the 20 and 22 inchers are not "true" hd (max resolution is 1680 x 1050), I really don't mind any cropping or downscaling when it comes to 1080p.

I also used to use a monitor and its built in speakers, and those were pretty crappy (nothing could be worse, they would crackel and emit noise at 25+). So I'll be prepared for whatever comes my way in the monitor speaker department.

What a coincidence, I'm also looking for a 19 inch tv to take back and forth to college. I'm hoping to be able to connect my laptop with hdmi to it and using it for my xbox 360 also.

I'm looking for the same thing to have a dual monitor for my laptop, but I also want to watch tv on it too, does that mean I would have to get a tuner or how would that go. Plus by the looks of it, I would have to connect and reconnect my xbox and laptop because there is only 1 vga.

PS: sorry for maybe hijacking the thread, just in the same boat.

Last Edit: Well I did some research and found that the samsung touch of color hd series is a good bet and the lowest it comes in is 20 inch, but can be a monitor and tv with 2 hdmi inputs and a load of other features. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3920261&CatId=37

Crazed, keep in mind though it advertises 1080p, what you'll see on the actual screen is a cropped or down scaled image because the max resolution is 1680 X 1050 and it's a 16:10 ratio. If you want true 1080p, you'd want a 24"+.

Personally though, i stuck with the 20", even if the picture is a cropped or downscaled 1080p picture, 1080p with something as small as 20" is amazing. Though this is sort of trivial to me beecause I really dont have television or games that render 1080p. If the shipping is high on Tiger, I'd advise to buy from amazon if you're willing to wait and use their free shipping. It's practically the same, and the rebate I linked to earlier lasts until Oct 31.
