Good review site for new gamers?

My parents are in their 50s and haven't played anything more than web based games since the NES. They managed to get a Wii recently and I bought them a DS for Christmas. I figured they would mostly play brain training games and similar casual fare. Wow was I surprised when my Dad popped in my copy of Marvel Ultimate Aliance and started kicking ass but even more suprised when my Mom told me she had just got the sword from the "old guy" in Phantom Hourglass!

I want to help them weed through the mounds of crap that have been made for each of those systems and find the gems that will fit what they enjoy. Most review sites are geared towards people who have been in the hoby for a while and are aware of older titles. Reviews that reference older games or give a lower score due to being similar to their predecesors (i.e. Mario Party) won't be of much help to them. Are there any sites out there that would be accesible to people new to the hoby and are easy to use and navigate?

I want to encourage my parents interest in gaming and trying out new games but I don't want them to end up with a sour taste from the newest "Brain Boost" or "Ninja Bread Man."

Thanks for any suggestions!

Get your father Ninja Gaiden, lol. Just narrow each game that got a review of 80 and up on gamespot.com or ign.com. Or you can just check gamerankings.com for the overall score of a game. If you considering ds games than Advance wars, fire Emblem, hotel Dusk, mario and luigi, and way more crap I can't remember. Your mom will probadly get hooked on phonic, I mean Pokemon.

You're looking for a review site that doesn't fault something for being derivative or nothing special? That doesn't sound like a very good review site.

i'd go with ign and 1up. maybe something else too. They are usually unbiased, but i sometimes trust one over the other.

NEVER go to gamespot(or gamestop) they suck. They have no taste in games. They think just because its a wii game, it deserves 5 points off.

Second that, metacritics. They are the most generic or straight forward review sight for games imho, you can also check your movies and tv shows as well.

Wow, people in their 50's are people too? (I hope I'll be playing actively when I get there!) :D

Everyone loves to game, just a matter of time and access. Gaming keeps your reflexes sharp and some games encourage analytical thinking (too few though).

metacritics.com is good, but why not give them a list of sites and let them expose themselves to the "gaming" culture a little. I think exploration is one of the best teachers. Also, your parents might learn a little more about you and gain some good perspectives on your point of view.

I remember playing Asteroids on the Atari with my dad back in the 80's (he's going to be 70 this May). Also, if your parents play any old school games you should take the time to learn them as well. Me and my parents always played various card and board games (Canasta, spades (required for college survival), hearts, poker, chess, go,etc..), some good memories there.
