GTA:SA FYE.com $20 Rebate Saga

CAGiversary!
So, if anyone will remember when FYE.com posted a $20 rebate form along with a pre-order for GTA:SA for PS2 in October. The form was somewhat confusing b/c it said "$20 Rebate with Purchase of GTA:SA" but then it had a check box with both the GTA Double Pack and GTA:SA. I took my chances and ordered GTA:SA from them anyway. They then promptly removed the rebate form from their website. Luckily a fellow CAGer saved it on his PC and posted it. The game relased on 10/26. I didn't get it until 11/8 or something like that. I promptly sent in the rebate form along with the price sticker, which FYE usually counts as the UPC. In the meantime I played the shit out of the game, coming 4 missions from beating the story.

On 12/19 I got a letter from them saying my rebate was not valid b/c I didn't include enough UPC symbols. I called them a few weeks ago to see what was up. They said you needed to buy both the GTA Double Pack and GTA:SA to get the $20 rebate. I told her it didn't say that anywhere on the form and it was confusingly worded. She agreed but said too bad, pretty much. I told her that the only reason I bought from them was for the rebate and due to THEIR mistake, I'm out $20. I said that I had to open the game to send in for the rebate and now I can't return it to get my money back. AH HA!

She said I could bring it back to any FYE B&M and get my money back even if its opened due to the mistake. I asked for a confirmation of this and she said I didn't need one, the people at the store would know about the problem. I had a bad feeling at this point.

So I hit a local FYE and no dice on the return. He asked if I'd been playing it and I said "Hell yes! I'm not waiting 3 months for a rebate to play the game!" They said they understand the confusion but I've had the game since October and been playing it since them so its not "new". Being smart-ass, I told him to check the disk - perfect, as is the case and manual. He still said no b/c I've had it 3 months. I told him that's how long THEIR stupid rebate process takes! Still no dice. I knew this would happen. I get his name and store number to complain.

Instead, I hit my other FYE downtown. They took the return no problem and gave me a prompt refund on my credit card. The lady was very nice about it. Now I'm very happy. Got to play the game for 3 months for free! Now I can buy the superior X-Box version this summer and play again, for only $39.99.

So anyone that didn't get their rebate, try what I did. I never shop at FYE b/c their prices are so inflated but in this case it worked out. I had photocopies of all my paperwork - rebate form, UPC, packing slip, and order confirmation vai FYE.com. Whenever you opt for a rebate, copy as much of the papework as you can in case something bad happens. It saved me here.

Haha, I have a pretty good FYE rebate story too.

I picked up Pitch Black last year because of a $5 or so rebate they had with it. Figured the rebate would print out on the receipt like they do at BB, but when I got home I didn't see it. A few days later I went back to see if they had the forms in-store. The lady looked through some they had up front, then went to the back. She finally came back with one and said it was with the games for some reason. I looked at it, and it was confusing too - lots of checkboxes for different items, but appeared to be the rebate they advertised.

I sent in the form, my UPC, and receipt for where I bought the movie. Few weeks go by, and I'm tracking the rebate on the online site they provided. Says there's a problem. So a couple weeks later, I got a letter from them - it says I didn't include everything needed for my $50 rebate - I needed to send them my PS2 system UPC code. I looked at the form and re-read what they wanted - no receipt, just a UPC. Well, I do own a PS2 I thought - didn't buy it from them, but I have the UPC. So I cut it off the box and send it in - figure the most I'm out is the price of a stamp (or 2 stamps, counting the original).

A couple weeks later, I get a $50 check in the mail. So basically, they paid me $30 to take Pitch Black. :p :D

He he he..funny. Luckily i havent dealt with thier Rebates yet, but some of them have looked interesting...
