I sold a bunch of my girlfriend's law school text books on Half.com and they sold pretty quickly and at much higher prices than I had anticipated..

I'm wondering if there's anyone around whose sold on Half.com and explain if there's anything good/bad/sketchy about selling games, dvds and other things on Half.

I think I know all the basics about the 15% commission half.com takes and the shipping charge being too low to ship the books...I know they take lower commissions as the prices are higher. But has anyone dealt with half.com before as a seller or buyer that would have any input?

I have a ton of games I want to sell off, and I think it would be a good idea. Are there any hidden fees?

Any input or help or knowledge would be appreciated..Thanks.

EDIT: Also when they do the direct deposit, does it happen on the 15th, or does it take longer? Is there any way to see how much money they claim to owe you? Any hidden fees besides the large commission rate?

EDIT2: What causes multiple YOU MADE A SALE e-mails to generate? I sold a textbook and seriously 15 e-mails in my box in 1 day saying I sold the same book to the same person.

I sell games and guides on half.com. 15% is the only fee you get hit with. Its a bit higher than the ebay/paypal combo i believe, but the tradeoff is there are no listing fees so you can leave an item out there as long as it takes to sell.

You have a payment history page which shows you the totals for each payment period so you can see what you are owed. The payments usually come 5 or so days after the period closes.

For games, i think you get $2.65 for shipping(more than books weirdly) so that usually works out.

I feel like half is the best place to sell items online unless your selling a bundle, than go to ebay.

I sold a PS2 with 5 GTA games for $145.

Most of the time the 15% doesn't seem that much.

Oh and the direct deposit is kinda slow sometimes, so I wouldn't be waiting on that money if I was you.

The listing fee for amazon is $1 + 15%.

Needless to say he's a rich fucker.....And an asshole.
Ask him if he can let me sell for no fees.
He sold the company to eGay u noob. He's a rich mofo :p
Then just ask him for some money. Duh. Pitch him an idea for Quarter.com

Another question, I sell stuff, right?

I sold a text book for instance, and it sent me an e-mail seriously 15 times saying I made a sale yada yada yada, what causes this to happen?

That sounds like some sort of error.
I've been selling on Half.com since the beginning [back when you had to put Half.com's address as the return address instead of your own, and when things had to be half MSRP or less], and it's been great. The commission is more than Ebay, but you don't pay unless/until you sell, which is nice.
However: last year I moved to Amazon.com marketplace. Their commissions are higher [15%, plus a listing fee, plus a variable closing fee, but all charged only if you sell], but it seems to me for lots of things people are willing to pay more on Amazon than on Half.com. I guess Half.com has the ebay/"second hand" feel to it, so people's cap amounts are lower; whereas Amazon has a 'new store' feel, so people will spend more. Plus Amazon gets lots more traffic, I think.
Try them both, you can certainly list things on both.
When I did sell on Half.com, as long as I was selling 'small' things like CDs, DVDs, games, or books, the shipping credit roughly negated the commission fee, so I just had to take into account my shipping cost [which was a dime or so more than actual postage] when pricing my items.

I like Half.com [and Amazon marketplace] for selling 'normal' things; non-collectible, common-type items. Plus there's an added level of security on both sides since the buyer pays Half/Amazon, who later pays you; no more worrying about getting a bad money order or something.

Dunno but if you don't ship right away, you'll get a couple reminder e-mails.

I'm not talking about a couple of reminder e-mails. I'm talking I sold 3 textbooks yesterday and have had exactly 32 e-mails in my box about those 3. Sometimes they send me 3 - 4 of EACH at a time. it's really obnoxious..heh.
