Halo 2: Killed by "The Guardians"???

So I was playing on Headlong today with three of my friends. We were just screwing around and launching each other on top of the buildings with Wraiths. I landed on the top of many buildings and I walked around, admired the view, jumped back down and then asked my friend to launch me up again. However, on one building I landed on, after a few seconds, some invisible force pushed me off and I died (while jumping off of the other buildings had no effect on my health). On my screen, it said, "Killed by The Guardians." What the hell are the Guardians? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Its really a mystery, but my opinon is that its when Halo 2 decides to kill you. Bungie has given no straight answers. I've been killed by the Guardians once on Halo 1 and 3 times on Halo 2.

I got this off Bungie's forums. Don't know how reliable it is:

In H2, if you are killed by the "Guardians", it's because you died as the result of ingame boudaries/limits, or something in the game killed you. For example; on Waterworks, if you shoot at the stelagtites, and they happens to fall on you and crush you, it says that you were killed by the guardians. Same thing if you jump into the big moving structure in the middle of the same map.

Never ran into that problem myself.

I've been killed by the Guardians by walking and all of a sudden I was just killed. It doesn' always have to do with boundaries.

how come in zanzir, you don't die from the guardians for blowing the bridge down and jumping on it? in stead you committ sucide...

I just tried the Waterworks thing. I had my brother shoot down a stalagtite and crush me. It said I was killed by him, not the Guardians.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to put your finger on exactly what causes it, but usually it's the game's enviroment. That means it could be some type of moving objects in the level or boundaries. Like in Colossus, I was jumping over the crate whole once and in mid-air, one fell on me, it said I got killed by the Guardians. Also, the body-in-the-sky glitch on Burial Mounds, it always says "Killed by the Guardians".

And when I get crushed my the mechanism in the middle, it says I committed suicide. I think it must just say that when there is a glitch and the game is confused.

I'm gonna have to agree that it is when the game is confused.

in the "have a picture of yourself apear in the sky at baurial grounds" glitch it doesnt work unless you kill the person by the gardians.

I've been killed once by the Guardians. On Coag. when I go up to the Finger sniper spot with the banshee sometimes i miss and the banshee falls and crushes me. It usually says i've committed suicide but the other day it happened it said by the guardians. I find this very very werid.

I was getting out of a Warthog on a Big Team Battle and it said I was killed by the Guardians. I think its just Halo glitching, honestly.

I know that in Halo, if you were killed by the Guardians, its means that the game doesn't know who to give the kill too, so instead of crashing (or whatever would happen), it gives it to the Guardians. I suspect its the same in Halo 2. The game doesn't know who killed you, so it defaults to the Guardians. Thats probably why when you get killed by a glitch (like the warthog as said above) its the Guardians, and not suicide or something.

I got it a lot in the first Halo when myself and someone else would melee one another when both would be almost dead. I'd get the kill for them, then the game would register their melee after they died, so when I died, it would give it to the Guardians.

Correct!

One of my favorite things to do in Sidewinder 8v8 in Halo 1 was guard the other team's warp. I sat on top of the warp with a shotgun (back when it was pretty much one hit death all of the time instead of a roll of the dice). When they wanted to come through my screen would start to glow. You can then back off and they come through if they are still in the warp. While you are still standing on it, the other player is told that the portal is blocked. If you keep standing on the warp while a player is going through you will be "Killed by the Guardians"

yeah, it sounds like if the game can't link another playing or yourself as killing you, then it just says "killed by the guardians" by default. Probably something the programmers threw in just so it would say something kinda cool when you died like that instead of just a blank. "Killed by " is no fun.

the guardians are invisible AI that bungie has programmed that to set the boundaries for halo 2. if a banshee hits you at the right angle.... guardians.... it's very simple.

Your all wrong!! When it happened to me it said "You killed the guardians". Nah just kidding folks. The "You got killed by the Guardians" comes on when there is a glitch in the system, similar to a Banshee pushing you very slightly outside the level and to stop you wondering around there Bungie put in a feature which means you automatically die when you go past it. But for obvious reasons they couldn't just have people dying here and there. So they created a new "race" that simply flashes on screen when you die but the system cannot understand why. Danltn.
