Halo 3 and MP:Corruption showing up as $29.99 at target.com (extreme YMMV)
I don't think they price match preorders...
Like I said, it's YMMV, you never know, some places might actually do it.

I’m seriously considering going to target tomorrow to try and get them to honor this price. It seems to me that Target would be the best bet to honor this price as opposed to BB or CC. I mean it is their screw up.

Target usually doesn't price match from their own website, crazy as it sounds

Target's price match policy

"Regular, sale and clearance prices for products on Target.com may vary from Target stores and from the Target Weekly Ad. We do not match the price of our online merchandise with the price offered by Target stores or another company, and Target stores do not match the price of our online merchandise."

Hmm good thought though, but I'm sure they're looking out for exactly this kind of thing.

sadly its a fakeout. I would have bought both multiple copies of both those games in a second if they actually had that price listed.

I think a call is in order. I think trying to get the customer representative to try to adjust the price for an online order would help.

Has anyone clicked on the link it still comes up 59.99 for Halo 3. That is what they are going to check.

Now if this were the online version of their print catalogue, that would be something. Amazing that the $100 DS I got from their 05 Christmas catalogue typo is still cheaper than I could get it now.

Damn Damn Damn I wish this were real. MP3 I'm buying no matter what. Halo I was gonna wait for a price drop and this would of been a perfect chance to pick it up. Stupid target employees don't know the difference between a 2 and a 5. TEAAAASSSSEEE.

I've said it before, order from the website, wait until they cancel the order and then file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Odds are you'll get a gift card to make up for the difference so you can buy it when it is released for 29.99.
This is false advertisement!
No, this is a simple human error. False advertising is the use of deliberately false statements or deception in advertising, in order to gain a commercial advantage. (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
People throw around the term "false advertising" like it happens all the time and should be punishable by death, but there is no way any reasonable person would try to hold them to a typo which is not even on the actual product page. The only reason stores honor these kinds of things is to prevent negative word of mouth from people who don't understand errors like this.
No retail stores honor online prices from other stores.

Best Buy only honors their own online prices.
Every time I've gotten a price match done at BB they've done a check at what I imagine is target.com of the price. Unless the stores share some in-store price database, it seems like they do honor online prices.

How do you know it's not false advertising? It's gotten people to the site. I bet some people have even ordered it, and not payed attention to the actual price. Granted you have to REALLY not be paying attention, but I bet some people won't.

Sigh. Are you serious? Here's the FTC complaint form. See what they say.

Sorry to be such a dick about this, but this mentality is one of the few things about CAG that irks me. I am a cheap bastard and I love a deal, but I definitely don't feel entitled to anything.

They don't honor online prices, just that of local competitors. Sometimes they may check, target.com or circuitcity.com assuming the prices are the same as in the B&M store (which they usually are, occasional web only specials aside).

I skimmed over the form, and it didn't seem to have anything to do with this one way or the other.

How do you know it's not false advertising? I mean we can assume it's just a mistake, but how do we know? And from the consumer's perspective, is there even a huge difference?

There's something called a "reasonable person" standard. It means that, especially in torts, a reasonable (average) person would have to act/think in the situation the same way that you do.
In this case, it means that a reasonable person would have to agree that Target is intentionally posting a $29.99 price (which was likely leftover from old code) in such a way as to distract from the true price of $49.99, which is visible both after clicking the link and upon checkout (which requires several additional confirmations). I think that a "reasonable person" would fail to see how Target could financially benefit from this misalignment of prices.

If you want to take advantage of this "deal," I think the only thing you can really do is call up Target, point out the price, act like you're confused, and try to sweet talk the person into giving you the cheaper price.

Well, I don't think it's much of a stretch to question why they're doing it. It's driven traffic to their site, and I'm sure gotten them some sales.

I think there's legitimate reason to question why they're doing this. My personal belief is that it's just a mistake-but that's only my guess.

Agreed, which means this amounts to a social engineering scam to facilitate theft.
I know that statement will piss a lot of people off (I've seen the same thing I'm saying get flamed time and time again), but remember that anytime you scam an unplanned "deal" from a corporation it pushes them a bit closer to changing their policies to eliminate future legitimate deals.

So has anyone gotten this deal to work?

As of right now, it's still showing up as the same prices if you don't click on it.
When FEAR was $8 at Target.com ppl got other stores to price match
I thought it was at kmart.com, not target

I'm really confused about where people would expect to go to price match this. Very few stores offer both price matching and preorders.

I just got off the phone with target.com customer service.

The dude said that they knew it was a problem and in situations like this, there is really nothing they can do since the price on the order page is the right one.

what turds.

Ok fellas this deal works! I have photo proof and I can explain how you can get this as well...

Ok, I basically did this:

One, go ahead and make a purchase of the two games. I KNOW it shows on the first screen as 29.99 and on the other it shows retail. this is not important.

Two, once you place the order, send an email to the online order customer service help. explain to them the price difference. I also said I had a screen shot of the lower price if it helped.

Three, make sure you keep track of the order #'s they send you and be polite. No sense in being rude to them over the deal. They will manually adjust the price to the lower of the two.

Four, if you made it this far, good job. As a reward I will give you a 10% off copon to sweeten the deal (make sure you use this on your original order or you can apply it!). Make sure you tell them to apply your discount to the price adjustment as well. heres the code: TGTENTZY

You still want proof huh? ok...take a gander at this:

I emailed them. I wasn't planning on getting this but even if I don't like it I can sell it to one of my friend for 40 bucks or something.

Bah. I tried calling in. He said they knew of the mistake, and then cancelled my order when I didn't want them at full price.

I guess if you are going to try this, you may want to go the email route.

the email route is the only way that works. I also called it in and he acted like it was "no big deal; dont expect anything buddy"

but I can confirm the email way works.

Hmmm...looks legit enough for me

I got my email. $31.83 Shipped!
fuck yeah!

Nintendo got a sale thanks to people screwing up on this. If they're nice, Target will deduct the price from the paycheck of whoever did this.

DAMN! Now I'm wondering if I should cancel my pre-order on MP3 that I did during GameStop's trade 2 Wii games, get 1 free offer and use that credit on Blue Dragon instead.

Worse comes to worst, I'll just get Halo 3.

I did the steps for both Halo 3 and MP3. Will wait on their email. I have bad luck so I get this feeling they'll tell me no even though they've said yes to everyone else.
