Today the magnificient Glenn Beck is going to stand in the Lincoln Memorial in order to reclaim the dignity and honor of our Country, because those arugula munching liberal elites with their gucci shoes and $100 ties have taken what we know and love away from us. He will conquer that fear that has a tightened grip on our balls, and show us that we should bring the fear to them.

fuck. I don't know what's the point of this anyway. He hates progressives, and their "social justice," and here he's trying to bring it back to "us?" Can someone work this out for me? He may be preaching "civil rights" is fine and dandy, but isn't he against socialism, where people are at least given a chance at becoming equal to one another, like through access to health care and education.

I was on the fence about going to this, but I was reminded how people treated the black guy with the skull cap last weekend near GZ. Probably wouldn't turn out too well for me. 'He's just a liberal plant trying to make us look racist!'

Does anyone know what he's going to talk about? I wonder if he's going to be mostly positive or if he's going to attack progressives. I'm also curious about the audience, and what kind of signs they'll bring. Hopefully we'll hear a good justification for why Obama = Hitler is part of restoring honor (if those signs are present.)

EDIT: found out he's discouraging any kind of political signs. good to hear.

I wanna play 4-square. Volley shots and spinners are outlawed through. I play REAL 4-square, suspended over a volcano and with the eyes of my heathen god watching us as his spirit animates an ancient stone monolithic statue, eyes aglow with adoration for the fearless athletes.

Only if we do it real old school and losers get thrown in.

There is so much subtle, under the radar shit here it's crazy.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_dc_rally

First of all, I don't know what they mean by restoring America's honor, probably not what I'm thinking.

Palin honored military members in her speech. She likened the rally participants to the civil rights activists who came to the National Mall to hear King's historic speech. She said the same spirit that helped civil rights activists overcome oppression, discrimination and violence would help this group as well.
"We are worried about what we face. Sometimes, our challenges seem insurmountable," Palin said.
"Look around you. You're not alone," Palin told participants.
What exactly do they face? I'm guessing this is conservative code for all the progressive measures being passed/trying to be passed at the moment. They face the horrors of health care reform and gay marriage, I assume that restoring America's honor means stopping this.

Beck, in a taped presentation mixed in with his live remarks, invoked King's message and said "the fight for freedom was not easy." He repeatedly injected religion into the event and urged rally participants to rely on faith to help the U.S. recover from an economic recession that has given the country stubbornly high unemployment.
"Faith is in short supply," Beck said. "To restore America, we must restore ourselves."
Yeah, pray to the sky father to restore our economy, I'll wait in the corner.

Organizers said their aim was to honor military personnel and others "who embody our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth and honor."
Bullshit.

Many in the crowd watched the proceedings on large television screens. On the edges of the Mall, vendors sold "Don't Tread on Me" flags, popular with tea party activists. Other activists distributed fliers urging voters "dump Obama." The pamphlet included a picture of the president with a Hitler-style mustache.
Classy classy.
Ricky Thomas, 43, a SWAT team police officer from Chesapeake Beach, Md., brought his 10-year old son Chase to the Beck rally. "I wanted my son to see democracy in action," Thomas said.
He said he wants government to stay out of people's lives. He acknowledged that he works for government, but said it's "a part of government that helps people when they are in trouble."
Oh yeah, the police are just there to help people in trouble. They never make a situation worse.

I don't believe for one second that a man who makes his living stirring up conservative furor has no ulterior motive in this rally. I don't expect you or any other conservative to see that because he's saying what you want to hear, of course you aren't going to try to read between the lines, why should you? This isn't me being paranoid, it's me knowing Beck and his way of operating.

Disgusting event that promotes the God disillusion and encourages more racist acts. And looks like Palin is trying to imitate Hitler whom she obviously admires. All the people in the event should be arrested and convicted for their hate crimes.
thrust, how can America restore honor?
Only by individuals changing, waking up, and giving a shit.

America is like a giant rally car race of millions of drivers, most of which are asleep at the wheel.
Thanks for not watching it and passing judgement anyway. Classy.
Those were quotes from the article by the people involved, how will watching something change what they said? I'm a little busy to watch Beck's angry white man, we have to take back America spiel.

As opposed to Rev Wright's angry black man American spiel, not God Bless America, God Damn America baby?

Alright dammit, I try to stay civil, but fuck you sir, fuck you. We do give a shit, each and every last one of us, that's why we call Beck and those like him on their bullshit. If we didn't give a damn about this country we wouldn't waste our time arguing with you or anyone else about this shit. The very idea that only conservatives care about the country is the biggest fallacy currently perpetrated.

Just because we don't walk around wearing U.S flag t-shirts and yelling "USA USA!" doesn't mean we don't love our country.

Oh I am not in the mood to deal with your bullshit too. ignored.

I saw C-SPAN interview someone who complained that 'our government is ignoring people like us.'

Gee, are you really that surprised that a liberal President and liberal Congress wouldn't do what an extremely conservative group of people want them to do? Seriously?

Lady welcome to Democrats' world 2001-2007.

Exactly, I don't remember Bush and company paying much attention to liberal wants. Bunch of cry babies were living high those years, now they're crying foul that they're being ignored.

Sorry, but a bunch of fat, old, white folks who are appeased by the pomp and circumstance of the Tea Party's anti-intellectual, pro-feel-good-words (Liberty! Freedom!) philosophy rah-rahing about the evils of socialism and islam doesn't construe a high-quality "giving a shit" to me, folks.

Completely agree with you:

I don't expect you or any other liberals to see that because he's saying what you don't want to hear, of course you aren't going to just try to read whatever you want between the lines, why wouldn't you?

What is he really saying though? Democracy still works? We know that. We elected Obama in. Congress is stuck in a partisan quagmire? We know that. There hasn't been any progress in two years.

We're just saying he's hypocritical. Conservatives are all about the common man as long as they're listening to their radio programs, watching their TV programs, and buying their books.

Conservatives sit there and block progress at every turn and then claim that they're looking out for the "common man." Like it or not, the white, straight, Christian man isn't the common man anymore. The America that you cling to doesn't exist anymore. Get on the bus or get the fuck out of the way.

How about, instead of deflecting, you find some photos of the rally that don't show nothing but white people? Every slideshow I've seen - *even FOX News' gallery* - is white people as far as the eye can see.

Ball's in your court. I expect you and yours to fumble as usual, and call it a touchdown.

I knew I should have thrown in the caveat about not listing invited (i.e., paid) speakers. That part should have been obvious from the start.

But then I forgot that you can't do anything proper.

That sure sounds like a fumble to me ;)

Oh hey it's the member of the King family that actually said that gay marriage =====> genocide.

Totally makes sense that she would be a uniter, that she would be the one to speak about restoring honor.

Wow, who would have guessed that a conservative would be speaking at a Glen Beck rally, I expected Dennis Kucinich.

lol discrimination if I have ever seen it.

Lets flip that for a second.

Person 1: Hey look at those black people rallying! There must be something important that they are rallying for.

Person 2: What are you talking about? I don't even see any white people rallying, it must not be that important, or credible.

So now an entire race of people must be racially diverse in order to be allowed to rally or else its a bad thing and it doesn't count...or is this rule only for white people?

Oh I forgot all white people are rich old men, no poverty in that area, nope.

So are they planning on having some transcripts? I looked at his site briefly and didn't really see anything. I don't want to watch a bunch of videos when I could read it much faster.

When you have a speech claiming to unite ALL Americans, there should be a good amount of non-whites there that aren't getting paid. Every clip that has been shown are just white milling around bitching about taking 'Merica back.

I was cleaning my room but I had it on in the background. It was pretty boring for the most part, it was almost like a Joel Olsteen sermon or something.

Highlight was at the end, when Beck lost it crying and saying he hoped the next George Washington was in the audience. You could see audience members cracking up. It's not that his anguish sustains me, but....it was pretty funny.

How are we going to have another George Washington without a revolution? Does he realize that he's going to be crucified/beheaded/shot/run out of town if that happens?

So if it was a bunch of black people bitching about taking america back, because it was just a bunch of black people, it would lose meaning?

It is curious how if anyone criticizes a minority you guys are all over condemning the people who are criticizing these poor peoples right to do whatever, but once its the majority you guys turn on your principles.

Conservatives talking about taking 'their country back' from the Liberals running it has little to no meaning. It's part of the political process.

I'm sure you see no meaning in it, you agree with the current policies for the most part. These people obviously don't.

When people had anti bush, kill bush, impeach bush, bush is a nazi, rallies I'm sure you were right here defending their right, and responsibility to do it.

But what are they protesting? What are they turning America back from? Progress? Gays? Coloreds? What do white people have to be so pissed off about in the 21st Century?

Unemployment? Join the club.

Discrimination based on the color of skin? Not even close to what we've been through and still experience.

Foreclosure? Check the map and see that black and Hispanic communities are getting rocked super hard by that scourge.

Government interference? We've been fucked by the government since the beginning of this nation.

We've been railing about these things for decades and what did we get? Hoses and dogs turned on us. Get back to me when Glenn Beck gets the shit beat out of him for trying to ride in the front seat of the bus.
When people had anti bush, kill bush, impeach bush, bush is a nazi, rallies I'm sure you were right here defending their right, and responsibility to do it.
um, not a big fan of rallies in general. not sure what this has to do with anything.
It is curious how if anyone criticizes a minority you guys are all over condemning the people who are criticizing these poor peoples right to do whatever, but once its the majority you guys turn on your principles.
I'm gonna defend oppressed minorities. That would include blacks, jews, muslims, whatever it may be.

In this case, why are 'these people' in the minority? Because they choose to be, they choose to cling onto neocon foreign policy, Reagenesque foreign policy, etc.
