so the graphical prowess of the zen pinball demo must have been too much for my 60 gig PS3 because after I quit it, the XMB would not come up so I restarted the system and was given the notice that:

"The hard disk's database will be rebuilt"

Is all of my information lost or is it possible to still retrieve my game saves, music, etc? I tried taking out the hard drive but the pins did not seem to match my SATA to USB cable. Could I use a USB to USB cable and try and hook the PS3 up directly to a computer? I thought I would try what I could before I had to reformat the hard drive.

Anyways, any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Mine did the same thing recently, I wonder if the Zen Pinball demo was teh cause... Anyway I read about it before I accepted. Didn't seem to have touched any of my data at all and from what I've read it might just be a sort of defrag.

I was just joking about the graphical prowess of zen pinball. I think it is just a coincidence, otherwise there would be tons of people with the same problem. But if you are saying that your data wasn't touched, I guess I will go ahead and do it.

I had no issues with the Zen Pinball demo, but I've had the hard drive needing to be rebuilt thing happen before and the only difference I could tell was that my videos were restored to their original settings so that I had to re-add the album titles to each video so they could be organized again.

Yup Frisky is spot on. It is just a built in defrag for the PS3. IM pretty sure mine is gonna do it again soon. It seems to happen when you download and delete things excessively.
