I have a LaCie 250 GB external HD and a PowerBook G4 Titanium connected via FireWire. Here's the rub...it doesn't work in my apartment. Any attempt to copy files to the drive is met with a "file name too long for the destination" error, and you can not unmount the drive (says it's "in use"). HOWEVER...taking the computer to another location resolves the problem and the drive works like a champ.
Same computer, same cables at the Apple Store = works great.
Same computer, same cables at Panera just down the street = works great.
Same computer, same cables in my apartment =
off.
What could possibly affect an external drive in this manner? Anyone?
