Harrison, Kaplan And Llewelyn Leave Nintendo

Scrubking

CAGiversary!
Now that the June deadline date for Nintendo of America staff has reared its head, the fallout from Nintendo’s Sales and Marketing move has been leaked. According to our sources, approximately 90% of the Nintendo of America Sales and Marketing Staff has decided not to make the move to either San Francisco or New York, thereby taking a severance and leaving the company.

Three key executives will be leaving Nintendo of America, including Senior Director of Public Relations Beth Llewelyn; Vice President, Marking and Corporate Affairs Perrin Kaplan; and Senior Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Communications George Harrison. When these three will actually depart the company is unknown at this time, however, we’re betting on the fact that they’ll stay with Nintendo of America until the upcoming E3 show is over.

Currently, this basically wipes out the majority of Nintendo of America’s key marketing executives. The only two major executives remaining at Nintendo of America include Chairman and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima and President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. However, whether or not they will be packing a U-Haul and trekking to San Francisco or New York is unknown at this time.

No loss in the execs, really, I'm sure they'll find someone to take their place.

I'd be kinda surprised if 90% of the division is actually quitting, that seems excessively high unless they don't staff many people there. Or if the severance package was really nice because they didn't want most of the people to stay on.

Wow - so this means they are hiring? Time to send out the old resume... I wonder if they have any room in their NY offfice for a lawyer who is obsessed with video games but knows nothing about marketing other than it involves bullshitting people and really, who are better bullshitters than lawyers?

way to leave out

"Game Informer Online has interviewed all three of these executives countless times in the past years, and we wish them well in their future endeavors.

We have contacted our reps at Nintendo to get “official” word, and are still waiting to hear back with a statement"

Mainly that last line, I mean really, 90%, who knows and who cares, but frankly, if Gameinformer can't be bothered to, I don't know, contact Perrin, Beht and George directly, I guess they suck.

Kind of crazy to think that these people will all leave their jobs because they don't want to move, hell, I didn't even know that Nintendo had decided on a place to move too. Also, moves like that take time, it's not like you up and move your offices over night...

Eh, whatever, I just think it's funny that Gameinformer isn't up high enough on the list to be able to just call one of those three directly.
Completely uninformed opinion:

Maybe they'll actually, you know, do some marketing now.
Nah, I agree with you and Botticus--no real loss here, and maybe some new blood will do them some good, if Nintendo Japan lets them...

If only every compay would lose 3 CEOs profits and wages would be up across the board and prices would be down.

I'll miss harrison's awkward attempts at sounding excited at E3 presentations..

Kaplan is everyone's friend's mom who obviously had a crazy side when she was younger.

Best wishes for them.

But it was always so fun to hear "Ladies and Gentlemen, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, George Harrison" at press events, cause then I could be all like "haha the beatles, get it??"
Perrin was an embarrassment, and George was much too soft-spoken to be an effective figurehead. This is a good thing.
QFT.

Well said... they were all pretty worthless. I'm not even sure who that Beth person is.
Maybe the North American Mynintendo will stop being shitty now.
We could only hope, but chances are we wont, lol.
So how's "Matt-IGN" supposed to get his 'pillowtalk' scoops now??
Jesus, does Luke Smith do all your thinking for you or are you Luke Smith?

I hope this doesn't mean a new extreme team of marketing guys who put ads to make things seem cool. I would love a new IT PRINTS MONEY! marketing campaign though.
Consider this:

(NSFW, I repeat NSFW)

Isn't marketing FUN?
I don't know what to think of that. Are the residents out of their fucking mind, or had they been taking some drugs to make them insane, lol. Either way that does not get me excited for a PS3, but than again no ad is going to change that, lol. Lets hope Nintendo can get some good marketing now, lol.

Wow, I can't believe that shit. What the fuck is Sony thinking? They really need to fix their fucked up ad department.
Is that shit a real, made by Sony AD?
Kotaku certainly thinks so. The production values of the videos are quite high, and it seems to follow the whole "THIS IS LIVING" campaign. The answer, however, is "I do not know."

I'll say this: way too many celebrities (one gentleman was in Capote, the other is a Russian actor, unless I'm mistaken, who played the evil bad guy in The World is Not Enough) are involved for this to be "fake." You are free to make up your own mind about the spot, but if nothing else, it's definitely worth the time you spend to watch it.
Wow, I can't believe that shit. What the fuck is Sony thinking? They really need to fix their fucked up ad department.
The topic here is Nintendo. This is what they are going against in regard to marketing and promotion. This kind of ad is not cheap to make, and it's well-scripted and well-executed, designed to pimp the "adult" factor of the PlayStation 3. Note: the fact that you or anyone else may dislike the ad doesn't mean that it is unsucessful. Chris Cunningham's amazing PlayStation spot featuring a girl with a distorted face back in the day (LINK) or his joint effort with Alex Rutterford (director of Autechre's GANTZ GRAF video) on PSP "A Day In Life" are bright examples that Sony can advertise very well (PSP AD LINK).

I am more interested than concerned about Nintendo's take on current trends of obnoxiously huge overproduced "epic" ads. This is of particular topicality now, if the rumor outlined in this thread is actually true. Let's just say that Nintendo is not uncapable of blaring rock music "poppy" ads, either. (DS Spot, Wii Would Like to Play)

After I saw the girl on the toilet I knew it was real. She was on their new eu mag or something.

It's still fucked up though. If sony's ad department isn't graffitiing walls, making up fake blogs, asking people to kill themselves or insulting the pope I guess they are now making completely off topic, sex filled PS3 ads.

Yeah, that's a real ad. That's the uncut version of what actually aired in March around the launch in Europe. Basically everything after the grenade blowing up the suitcase was cut.

This is a freakin' interesting development. Wonder where they're gonna go now? On the surface, they just didn't want to move, and given the places where they would've had to transfer to and their notably high cost of living, keeping the same salary would've been like a demotion.

But then I wonder if there's not a little something more go on. Can't be a Reggie-fication of things. He's not much better at dealing with media relations than these three were to be honest. I wonder how much control NOJ has over NOA in these matters like these.

Wow... I have no idea what that had to do with a PS3... However, I do find it sad/funny with how much warning they give about the nudity. Its a girl getting into the shower. You see her ass for about 5 seconds and the side of her boob for about a second. Are we really so up tight and repressed that that is a huge deal?

Yes, 'we' are.

Headshots...okay with parents and gun-totin' Bible-thumpin' hillbillies everywhere. A shot of a couple C-cups for a couple seconds...that's the work of Satan right there!

"Now nod your head, because you know that I'm right...well, alright!"

I guess you missed the part where they are having SEX... you know, the girl riding the guy like a pro.

Actually, our company has done several plant closing and reorgs in the last couple of years and a 10% hit rate for the move is about the norm.

And don't forget the soccer-fantasy dealie ;).

Didn't actually show anything and I've seen worse on my mom's soaps and primetime TV.
No comment on the execs, but apparently only 60% of the staff are quitting, per Reggie. Unless he's talking shipped and not sold.

Thanks, that was an interesting read. I guess the "rumor" is basically conirmed, just needs to see the good old "newsbreak" on this. I'm curious if this will in any way affect Nintendo's stock, because I don't see why it should do so dramatically. I definitely wouldn't sell my shares IF I HAD ANY.
