Has anyone ever painted their DS?

I have a black DSL and would really like to paint the top the same color (or maybe darker) as this car:

I have never painted anything but I know not to use left over house paint to paint your electronics, or it'll look like this:

What kind of paint would I have to buy? s And is it possible to paint it without having to take it apart? I just want the top colored.

If I remember correctly, there is like a clear plastic shell covering the white (assuming plastic) part of the DS.

I wouldn't do it, unless you've done things like this before and had professional results. Just my two cents.

Well use spray paint of course, who would be dumb enough to use house paint?

I think they make special paint now for plasic furniture that you don't even need to sand. I would try that paint.

Do you want to paint the whole top or only the outside top? If it's only the outside cover the rest with newspaper and spray away. If it's the inside cover the screen with take and spray away.

I have never tried it, but I doubt it could be that hard, just use the right spray paint. However if there is a special coat over the DS I wouldn't do it.

You could always buy a replacement shell, and spray paint that? That way if you mess up, your original hardware isnt ruined.

That was my thought as well. There were some links in another thread to Ebay which had a Spongebob paint job (and others) on a DSL. Looked pretty slick.

wow that ds looks freakishly horrible. like some kid got into his moms fingernail polish and went to town. i wouldnt paint mine for 3 reasons.

1. i know dick about painting so it would end up looking like shit.

2. if they come out with a new model ( which im sure they will) id like to be able to trade it in or sell it to someone and get a decent bit of my investment back on it.

3. why mess with perfection i like the way my ds looks.

they need to at least sell ds shells so people can customize them how they want to. i bet you could clean up with quality ds shells.

I have a project in the works but its not the DS. Its not that hard to paint and spray paint will get the job done if needed.

Krylon is a good start or choose a rustoleum in a satin etc. Make sure you realize what type of finish you want and match that to the finish of the paint you buy.

Sand and do many light coats with sanding between.
