So for several months after the launch of the Wii, there was really nothing to play apart from launch titles, which made a lot of people start to deeply regret buying the system. Well, here we are now in early September. We now have Metroid Prime 3 and a good number of games more than we did only a few months ago. More importantly, the games on the horizon are looking better than ever and actually have reasonably close release dates. So how do you view the Wii now as opposed to 6 months ago?

Response is mandatory.

It's as good as it used to be. I'm optimistic, enjoy the games out, looking forward to a good number of games on the horizon.

On the flip side, 3rd party publishers are being more stubborn than I expected, which is disappointing. But first party looks like they'll make up for it if they have to.

I still think Nintendo is going to get shafted in the long run and end up another Gamecube....

It is a pity because they can not carry the load of supporting a game library on games they publish alone...

Eventually I think Nintendo will get to the point where they will stay with the handheld market but be the next Sega in the home console market and just publish games..

Thats just my opinion... Hell they had 25 glory years.. and the still have the handheld market locked down...

...Where's the "It's the same as it used to be" option? I was always happy with the Wii since I bought it on launch day, and I still am.

I never thought they were doing that badly. Even when "all the games were minigames compilations" (except for when they weren't) they had good games. Hell it hasn't quite been out for a year yet.

I don't really care if third parties don't release games I'm fine with Nintendo's, but it would be nice if they'd step up and do something. It would only mean more good games and third parties have released some good ones and are releasing even more by the end of the year so I think they'll get it soon.

The thing is they have more than the handheld market locked down. They make plenty of money from their consoles so there's no reason to stop making them even if they end up in third place. Combining DS and Wii last month Nintendo had sold half of all video game hardware and software in the US. Unless Nintendo gets tired of money they're not going to stop making consoles, you have to remember that unlike Sony and Microsoft (and Sega before) they generally don't take losses on their hardware.

It's worse. Since before the Wii came out when it was known as the "Revolution," up until a month after it's launch I loved it. I fully supported, I recommended it to everyone I could. Now, I complete hate it... the games aren't there, and unlike the DS the Wii controls are just gimmicky. They don't work. They're not better, and in most case they work much worse than your standard dual thumbsticks ala Xbox 360 and PS3. Overall I've very disappointed in the Wii. Most games look worse than stuff did on the Gamecube, the control sucks, 90% of the game are party/mini/kid games, I hate having a wii-mote, and a nunchuck, and classic controller, and Gamecube controller all for one system. Now they want to put out a Wii-fit pad and gun attachment... no thanks I have enough pieces of Nintendo brand plastic in my house already. Also, the Wii-mote batteries die seemingly once a week. The Virtual Console is over-priced on many games. Nintendo clearly doesn't care about online gaming. I'm just totally unsatisfied with the Wii right now. It's only saving grace for me will be Mario Galaxy, and if that turns out to be worse that Sunshine I'll sell my Wii.

My view has changed from good to bad after seeing how Nintendo is catering to the casual gamer so much that they have not announced a "real" game in what feels like a year. I am looking forward to Mario Galaxy somewhat, but thats it. I am tired of the Wii Fit demographic.

As of right now I like my Wii. I don't love my Wii. I am not the biggest fan of the 3D Metroid Games. I have no idea whay, I just can't get into them. So I will have to wait for Mario Galaxy to come out. After that there is the new FF: Crystal Chronicles type game. I'm hoping for a new Earthbound too [Crosses Fingers]. So I am optimistic at the moment and hoping things get even better. I haven't played my Wii since Super Paper Mario came out and I really liked it then.

I feel the same exact way. It was good initially when I first got the system but after this year's E3, I was expecting some huge surprises along with the usual stuff (like Mario Kart). Instead I got slammed with Wii Fit.

Sure we get Prime 3, SSBB, and Galaxy this year but after that, it looks like a long dry season.

My opinion goes up and down. At first I loved it because I had it during the holidays when theres lots of get togethers and its really a blast to show it off to people and have some great multiplayer. For a single player machine it has been lacking. It has left me with the want to play more games in general, so it pushed my 360 purchase closer and had me looking at the PS3 a lot more as well. I blame it due to a lot of Wii games losing a lot of their charm when not played with a group of people. Strikers with its very basic online mode lost its appeal to me after a week or two, I now find it much more fun to play with people in person. Two player online though is still a blast.

I can't say that I'm not happy with the Wii though. It hasn't been out a year and I've been able to play a Zelda and Metroid already, and before the year is up a Mario game is out. Its fun and a great compliment to conventional gaming, as I've pretty much been catching up on my PS2 backlog during the drought in games.

I'm with rodeojones and courageous. It's a nice system, the VC has a slew of great (if still frickin' expensive) titles, and there seems to be a good balance of first party software. The "Wii Fit demographic", however, drives me batshit, and the treatment of the system by third parties is just sickening.

It is what it is: a $250 system that doesn't have to do what is expected of the 360 and PS3. What I want to know is this: is the Wii, by itself, enough of a system to satisfy gamers who own neither a 360 nor a PS3?

If I were me 5 years ago with about 200% more gaming time? Probably not. If third parties were to step up and actually release quality similar to what they're putting on the 360 and PS3, then it definitely would be. I unfortunately don't see that happening.

I like my Wii, but the games for it are very disappointing. Have played a bit of Metroid and I love it, but not much else. It feels like it is a first party system which kind of does make it similar to the gamecube. That may change over time, but right now, it needs a LOT more support. The third party developers keep wanting to make these mini game compilations that have gotten stale. Once the third party developers come around, things will start looking up.

I got a Wii at launch and so far I still really enjoy it. I only have four games (Wii Sports, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4, Zelda) and three VC games, but the system still gets a lot of love from me. I play Wii Sports Baseball religiously (at least three times a week since I got the system), and the other games have been fun as well.

Smash Bros. Brawl is easily worth the price of admission as well.

Well, It's worse then before, but i'm optimistic (lol, you don't have that option in your poll)

Wii started out with some great games like Zelda, DBZ 2, Wii Sports, and Madden 07. It's going through a down period in which the only good games that have come out since launch, in my opinion, are Paper Mario, Resident Evil, Madden 08 and Mario Strikers.

But now their are a handful of awesome games ready to come out - Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, DBZ 3, NBA Live, FIFA, Mario Kart to name a few.

To me it's better than before because a lot of good games have come out this year (Paper Mario, Wario Ware, RE4, Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime 3, etc) and it looks like there are a bunch of games on the horizon (Mario Galaxy, SSBB, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, FF:CC2, RE:UC, Tales of Symphonia 2, etc).

I agree with the need for more gaming time wholeheartedly.

I was pretty critical of the Wii for sometime. I was thinking of all the games for the 'next gen' systems I would be interested in, and I decided the Wii wasn't for me. How disappointed I have been, though, with the recent mediocrity of Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and the entire PS3 lineup. Likewise, the vaunted PS2 library is filled with mediocre rpg's and technical shortcomings due to the underpowered system.

There are quality exclusives for each system (quite a few on the PS2), I'm not disputing that, but I just found my 'not enough games' reason for not buying a Wii, was unfounded. I also got to thinking that I can really only afford one game or so a month anyway. Compare the lineups from the big 3. I think the Wii is going to be just fine. I'm really looking forward to Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem, Nights, Smash Bros., and Puzzle Quest just to name a few. I can't wait to see what's in store for Wii gamers next year!

i'm fairly optimistic about the wii right now, seeing as i don't have nearly as much time as i used to for gaming the wii by itself would definitely hold me out, though the 360 is getting some good stuff too, i'm torn between both :bomb:

It's pretty much the same but now with Metroid and more VC games--some bones thrown here or there to the non-wii fit demographic, but really not a lot to look forward to.

I'm wondering whether I'll hold on to it after I finish MP3. If the Xmas time prices get ridiculous on ebay, I'll sell it off in a second (since everyone and their mom will own SSBB and I probably won't be able to throw a stone without hitting people playing it after it comes out.)

On the other hand, if some more games get announced I'll keep it (like, say, if that Okami rumor comes true.) but right now SMG, SMK, and SSBB aren't enough to make me keep it.

And what have the other systems given? I see people complain about the lack of Wii games, but then they proceed to list off Paper Mario, RE4, Strikers, DBZ, etc. And what has the 360 and PS3 given in the same time period? Guitar Hero II, Bioshock, GRAW2 for the 360 and Elder Scrolls, R6 Vegas, VF5 for the PS3.

Maybe the Wii has a lack of games, but the other console offerings aren't there either.

While I expected the 3rd Party support to pan out, you can't expect the games to come out right away. To create a great game you need time, and releasing a game one year after seeing the success of the Wii is probably not going to get us many great games. "Give it some time" is rather cliche but its true in this situation, give the 3rd parties some more time, the Wii is not the 360/PS3, its a unique console, Rainbow 6 Vegas Wii would not do very well because the offering is essentially the same on the 360, but with much better graphics etc. Thats why you see Wii exclusives and the 360/PS3 exclusives.

That said I am very happy with my console, I did have doubts around March and April but those doubts were from the rampant ranting from everyone that the Wii has no games. I saw through that eventually and am satisfied with my purchase. I await what the future holds for this little machine.

I'm extremely happy with the Wii, and I have been since the day I bought it. I don't have much time for gaming like I did years ago so the lack of abundant new titles doesn't concern me in the least.

It plays all my cube games, I've got some great stuff from VC, and I still even enjoy just messing around with the interface every now and then. They've already had some fantastic releases like Zelda, Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4, and now Metroid. The coming months are looking fantastic too. They could release nothing but Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros and I'd be content. Heck, just give me Smash Bros. That'll eat up way more time than I've got. Plus, there's a number of 3rd party titles I'm very much looking forward to also. Zack & Wiki anyone?

With the other two consoles, there's absolutely nothing coming, or has come out, this year that makes me think, gee I wish I had a PS3/360. There are games still coming for those systems that I'd like to play, but everything's been pushed into 2008 and 2009. Maybe next year I'll be looking at the Wii differently, but for now I know I made the right purchase.

I'm disappointed.

I had seemingly high expectations for the Wii. After all, last generation, the Gamecube was my console of choice. After owning all three systems last generation, the strain on my wallet prompted me to support only one console this time around, and I chose the Wii.

My first tinge of disappointment came when I played through Zelda: Twilight Princess. Others will argue with me, but the waggle controls actually took me OUT of the experience, unlike Wind Waker, where I was completely drawn into the story. I felt like swinging the Wiimote around was a chore and became bored about halfway through the game. I did finish it, but only after I sat down one afternoon and forced myself through with the help of a guide.

Months passed, and I picked up a few more games: Excitetruck, Trauma Center, Super Paper Mario, Elebits, and Resident Evil 4. With the exception of Resident Evil, I found that I didn't enjoy the Wii controls as much as the traditional dual analog setup. The waggle just seemed tacked on, the games looked worse below par, and Nintendo's constant spin and catering to the casual crowd got under my skin.

I still held on to the hope that eventually I'd grow to enjoy the Wii, but the last straw came tonight, when I picked up Metroid Prime 3. After playing through the first two hours, I've decided the Wii just isn't for me. I bought into the hype that this game was "what the Wii was made for" and that the Wii controls would offer a better experience than traditional control schemes, but I was highly let down. Controlling Samus is like steering a drunken clown on a unicycle, and the shooting is frustrating on all three sensitivity settings.

I'll still keep my Wii for Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros., but aside from those two games, I'm done with Nintendo. I'm currently trying to decide if it'll be a 360 or PS3 that I pick up for Christmas.

I'm still not totally sold on it. Yes some games are coming out, but they are the big first party games we knew were coming sometime this year.

What it will take for the Wii to really impress me is for it to start getting some kick ass third party games that interest me, so that I don't have to buy a 360 to have enough games to keep me busy.

We know the Nitnendo first party titles will deliver, they just don't come out often enough to keep any remotely serious gamer busy year round.

I'm in that camp. And to me the answer is- by itself? No. But with my PS2 and DS? Definitely. When I run out of great games for PS2 that I'm playing I'll re-evaluate the pricing of the other consoles and decide then which to get.

And to answer the OP, I say it's the same.

There was certainly a time where things were sparse on the system, but since RE4 hit I've been using the Wii far more than the 360, DS, or PSP combined.

I bought the 360 figuring it would, eventually, flay second fiddle to the Wii and that's exactly what's happening. Games like Prime 3 have a level of polish and grandness that, despite not being in the oft-cited HD, are far superior to all but the very best on the other systems (BioShock, etc.)

I'm excited for the future of the Wii. Hopefully 3rd parties stop not making shovel-ware crap for it and making better sofware.

I have to say initially I was all woohoo Wii and got caught up in the newness of it all then. Then for a long while I hardly ever played except wii sports with friends. All I played was my 360 and was just generally dissapointed in the Wii. Then I got a hold Super Paper Mario and started looking deeper into the VC games. Now with a lot of other awesome games like Wario Ware, Heatseeker (yes I love this game), Marble Mania, Strikers Godfather, Scarface. I am loving my Wii and can't wait to see all the new stuff like Smash Bros and Metroid and even the VC has MASSIVELY improved. Currently I am really happy with the wii and looking forward to the future it holds.

Okay, I'll answer my own question:

Back a few months ago, the Wii was a worthless system. I had Trauma Center, Zelda, and that was it. Sure, there were a few games coming out during Spring and Summer, but it was a pathetically small number of games. Well, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now since there's like... 8 games that could potentially be worth buying coming out before the end of the year. It's nice. Now, I definitely don't like Nintendo's emphasis on the casual market, mainly because casual games are generally trash. However, they do have a couple things on the horizon right now, and more importantly, 3rd party developers are well into developing games for the Wii by now. Sega, Capcom, Namco, Square, etc... they're all making games that aren't mini-game collections, and that have more potential than what 3rd party games on the Gamecube offered.

So, I'm optimistic about the Wii's future now, because the Wii's where the money is, and thus, where 3rd party developers are (presumably) throwing their talents. And either way, I think the Wii's lineup for the end of the year is vastly superior to what either MS or Sony have to offer... the Playstation 3 doesn't have shit coming out and the 360 has a couple decent looking RPGs, Halo (if you're into that), and some multiplatform games that I'd rather play on the PC anyway. Point is, from my perspective, the Wii has a much better lineup of exclusives and games that are well designed rather than graphical showcases.

Ok, after playing through another couple hours last night, I completely retract these previous sentiments. I don't know if I just suck or if the controls just take getting used to (probably both), but I actually like Prime 3 now!

However, my other statements regarding the Wii and Nintendo's stance on casual gaming still stand. If third parties can crank out more stuff like Prime 3, I'll be sold, but if all we get is mini-game compilations and more PSP ports, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

I can't believe people are still making polls like these and talking about 3rd parties as if the Wii isn't getting good games. Prime 3 just came out and this is the thread that gets made? Are we going to continue getting these after SMG? After brawl?

What about king Story, Ghost Squad, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Manhunt 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers, etc, etc?????

During the launch the Wii was cool. However, during the summer months I absolutely hated the fact that nothing decent came out for the system. However looking at the fall and winter months, it looks like there is finally some decent stuff coming out for the console.

exactly the same. i loved twilight princess and bananna blitz. those were my only launch titles. there was virtually nothing to buy in the summer. but this was as expected. i did enjoy paper mario and mario strikers though. and now we're nearly into the big holiday season and everything looks great. metroid prime is awsome. the other big 2 still look great. and there are still others that look promising.

for anyone who did their homework at launch. things should be going as expected.
...Where's the "It's the same as it used to be" option? I was always happy with the Wii since I bought it on launch day, and I still am.
Same here. My opinion on it really hasn't changed much since I got it.

About the same for me as in I didn't care about it at launch and I only slightly care about it now.

Yesterday when I was buying my surround sound system I saw they had some Wii's. I was seriously considering it, but then when I looked at the games I decided it would be a waste of money for me.

Oh, and for what it's worth, your mom's opinion of my Wii never changes. She fuckin' loves it.

(I have completely derailed my own thread.)

I'm having a great time with Metroid Prime 3, but I'm selling the Wii after I'm done, because aside from a few Nintendo first-party games, it just isn't worth keeping to me.

I have a PS3 and I enjoy it a lot more than the Wii. I want an Xbox 360 still, and selling the Wii gets me that much closer to affording one. :)

What about king Story, Ghost Squad, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Manhunt 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers, etc, etc?????
King Story: Should be absolutely amazing
Ghost Squad: arcade port, could be good, but nothing mind-boggling
Zack & Wiki: Should be awesome
No More Heroes: announced long ago, probably not a ground-up Wii game at its inception, but regardless, yeah, positive things should happen with this.
Manhunt: sequel to Manhunt, which is also on PS2, not really something I will bother with
FF:CC: so far looks good, but not much is known, and it doesn't have a lot of brand equity built up with the previous CC game(s).

No doubt there will be some really good third party stuff, from what is announced and what isn't, but relative to the amount of third party stuff that is worthless, the ratio isn't good. The optimism is that hopefully things will start changing in 08. And keep in mind that the games you listed are spread out from next month through unknown dates in 08 or 09.

And as Chacrana just answered his question, I was pretty sure that was his motivation for this thread. He was pretty negative about it back in the day.

No answer? I'm assuming the only real purpose of this thread was to hate on the Wii some more, but the "Damn where's the games" threads were getting too tired.

King Story--Not familiar with this one, so could go either way
Ghost Squad--arcade game so will be short and shallow
Zak and Wiki--never liked point and click adventure games
No More Heroes--keeping an eye on, but didn't like Killer 7 and not a big fan of action games
Manhunt 2--hated the first, can't stomach uber violent, sadistic games/films
FF Crystal Bearer--didn't like the first one on the GC

So for me right now it Metroid, Mario Galaxy, maybe Smash Bros, Mario Kart and a few other games I'm keeping an eye on like NiGHTS.

But I have faith that 2008 will see a big upswing in AAA games just like the DS did in the second year as developers will start getting a handle on the system, and more 3rd parties will be on board since the Success was so unexpected (just like it was with the DS).
