For anyone going to Best Buy make sure you ask them to check their stock room for specific HD DVDs if they aren't on the shelves, especially the box sets. I was able to get a few box sets that weren't on the floor that way. Don't just go by the information in the computers.

This deal was amazing.
 
The cashier wouldn't scan my 2 sopranos box sets. She picked up the ad and said that there was a maximum price and found the 34.99. I asked if you could just try it and she refused saying it wouldnt work.

I went back and grabbed two movies and smallville. I placed smallville in between the two movies, and then the 1st movie and smallville rang up as free, and I paid for the third. I'm probably going to go back and return that one I paid full price for.

But any one who has a crappy cashier might want to try that.
 
for those trying rainchecks: NOTE - You might not get the free heroes HD-DVD. I spoke to a store manager and he mentioned that the raincheck only gurantees the price for item not a promotion. So if you are getting this offer i would suggest going to a store that has both (HD-DVD and heroes) otherwise you might not get the 2 free DVD offer.

I called Best Buy customer service yesterday. Talked to the rep and told them that they were out of Heroes. He said to try back Saturday to see if they got more. If not, call him back (he gave me his extension) and he'll send me a gift card to cover the cost of Heroes and tax. He even gave me case number so when he looks it up, he'll know.

They have an area for notes, on mine the rep put "Free with XBOX360 HD DVD Drive already purchased" and he told me to come back with the raincheck and the receipt.
 
guys im sorry if its been asked... i didnt wanna read 51 pages... but best buy just knows that you can get any 2 extra dvds? if i go now there won't be an issue, also can anyone confirm that walmart doesnt require reciepts for exchanges?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, seems I missed out on the mega deal but I'm still happy with the deal I got.


I tried to do the deal at 10 am this morning at a local Charlotte Best Buy. I've been following it for awhile but kept changing my mind, getting the two free box sets was too sweet to pass up in the end. But seems I didn't act fast enough.

I got the 360 add on, and the free Heros box set (there were plenty on the floor in my store, however I did have to ask them to go in the back to get the Add On.) But on my Planet Earth box set and my Matrix Collection, I only got $34.99 off of each purchase. So either the box set deal never worked at my Best Buy, or they fixed it overnight.

Good luck, still an awesome deal though :) Just not as good as it was last night it seems.



Edit: Just to clarify, I didn't get the free box sets, but I did in essence get the two unadvertised in-store hd-dvds. I wanted the box sets and have the cash so it wasn't worth it to take it back and get two hd-dvds instead, although one could certainly do that if they wanted to 'try' the deal.
 
Meh... was DENIED again at my store... 3rd time i've been denied. This time the General Manager came out... was very nice and shook my hand and whatnot... he apologized and said that they couldnt honor it. I finally gave up and left.
 
I busted my 360 drive out last night and attempted to connect it to my computer (since I don't have a 360). Blasted thing has no drivers for windows xp64! I think this is the last straw; I'll have to reformat and go back to 32 bit. So many things just don't work with 64. I'll be back later I suppose to tell you all how that goes... and if I ever get my $180 paperweight of a drive to do any good for me. Oh well, it'll come in handy in the future.
 
If I remember right... the 360 drive has to be used through PowerDVD or some sort of DVD Player program, due to the drive being unsupported PC wise.
 
Wow this teaches me to not check CAG every day, so the box set deal is dead then?

Still a freaking amazing deal with the Hereos, 2 HD-DVDs and 5 more mail in rebate (I assume King Kong is still in the box too).

I think I will pass on this deal though if I can't get the box sets as my 360 is still at the repair center and I should probably put that money to a good HD TV for my room first anyway.

correct... vista does detect the drive and installs it rather easily..

xp requires drivers..

its really not that difficult
 
at the BB in Sterling, VA there was a sign saying that the two free dvd movies will not be honored with the 360 drive. Guess management is starting to wise up and see people getting about 300$ dollars or so worth of dvds for free (heroes, matrix and PE). When I was buying AC6, I saw someone tried to pick up the 360 drive, Matrix and PE and I guess he was denied as he left it behind. Oh well. Fun while it lasted.
 
The 2 "free" boxed sets came up $34.99 off each at my BB .:cry:

I was going to get another drive but I didn't really have the money , the 2 free boxed sets would have made it ok .

I am happy for all of those who got in on the box sets and stuck it to BB. I personally am happy with two regulare movies. In fact I purposely did not look at the prices of the movies and instead picked two movies that I really wanted. I think the prices were $24.99 and $29.99.

Buy the HD-DVD and request a raincheck. If they dont give a rebate, call 1888BESTBUY and tell them that the store was sold out and that they did not offer a raincheck, they'll probably send you a giftcard since today is the last day and the deal is not offered tomorrow (I saw the ad that starts tomorrow)
 
that's crazy how corp. is giving out gift cards when over the phone they are bitching about limited quantities, while supplies last and no rainchecks. I literally had to bitch and stick it to them when I told them where on page 4 does it say no rainchecks, no limited quantities and while supplies last? Then after all that they finally offered me a gift card for 100 dollars so I can get heroes later. After I bought it without Heroes, I called them back and talked to the supervisor again that offered the 100 gift card and she got my mailing address and so on and said the card would be at my house in a week. Two days later HEROES was in stock again! So I returned and rebought it with the free heroes!
Now in a few days, I will have a free 100 dollar gift card, which I can use to buy anything in the store :) It would have been a lot easier if they would have allowed me to get something equal or lesser value of the Heroes box-set as I originally didn't want Heroes to start with...heck I would have loved the Young Indy box set or Smallville Season 6 on hd....but now I get all those movies AND 100 bucks for black friday spending :)

Giftcard is for price of Heroes. Giftcard is to be used to purchase Heroes. If the store has Heroes, you cant request raincheck. Raincheck is YMMV as I went to 3 BBs and they wouldnt give it.

Some report that they DO get a raincheck.
Others say NO RAINCHECK, which is understandable since it's for a free item.

Best buy really fucked up by doing two things...

1. Offering Heroes, of all titles with the drive.
2. Not having enough shipped to the stores BEFORE this week's ad's but having plenty of 360 drives for sale . :|


This would have been a nice deal if they said directly on page 4, 2 HD-DVD's in store with purchase of 360 drive value 34.99 or less. OR buy the drive and get 2 hd-dvd's 50% off!.

Now people are walking out with 300 dollars worth of free boxsets for the price of a 180 dollar drive, plus free kong and another 5 hd-dvd's in the mail.

Well this was one hell of a way to promote Heroes :whistle2:\
