HDD problem

007

CAGiversary!
Alright, so I recently acquired an HDD for my PS2. Hook it up, everything is cool, copied some files... and then I went to try and do the install for RE: Outbreak. Problem is, it froze completely during it, forcing me to just turn off the system, which evidently screwed up the HDD. Now it no longer shows up in the browser, and when I try to the RE install, it tells me to restore the HDD. I even threw in the Codebreaker disc for the hell of it and IT recognizes the HDD, so it's just a problem with official Sony stuff recognizing the HDD.

Problem is... I don't have the HDD Utility Disc. Is there any other way to get this thing up and running again and, if not, where can I get *just* the damn disc?

Any help appreciated. :)

Short of buying the Utility disc from a seller on ebay, I have no Idea. I suppose you can try to contact Sony and see if they can get you a utility disc. Sorry I can offer no other help or suggestions.

Well, I just got a reply from Sony and it said exactly what I expected... that since it's an older peripheral, they don't have replacement discs. This, though expected, is a bit of a problem.

I've checked EBay a few times, and I've yet to see the HDD disc by itself, and I certainly don't care enough to buy a whole new HDD just for the disc.

So, if there are any other ideas, I'm all ears, since I'm really at a loss here. If it comes down to it, I guess I could just try selling off the HDD 'as-is' and hope someone can use it, but I'm not really sure how viable that plan would even be.

Regardless, thanks for the one reply and if anyone else has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. :)

Install drive in PC or USB case and use WinHIIP to format the drive for the PS2. You could also do a search on "HD Loader".

No no NO! That won't do anything for him. He needs the official disc if he wants to use the features of his official drive. Namely game installs for those that support them (like RE Outbreak) and being able to access the HDD directly from the PS2's main Browser screen to copy saves onto and off of it.

If he wanted unofficial use like that, he'd just use any hdd. What he wants is to restore the functionality of the official hdd peripheral after having had this error during Outbreak's official install function but doesn't have the disc that originally came with the drive.

Exactly... thanks for basically typing out my reply before I could.

I *know* could get it working for 'unofficial' purposes... but that's not what I want it for. I got it for extremely cheap and was mainly just looking to use it backing up game saves and the installs for the 2 RE: Outbreak games.

That's what I find sad about the whole thing... at this point, it seems it would be much easier for me to use it for suspect purposes than it is for me to use for what Sony intended me to use it for. :applause:

So, yeah, just need the official disc. Unless there's a way to get the official functionality of the disc WITHOUT the disc, which I haven't come across yet.
