hdd transfer using just a usb drive.

I just got the 120gig deal form gs but they had no transfer cables. I do have a few usb drives ive been using as extra storage for my old drive. How risky is it to transfer a fairly full 20gig to a used 120gig using only the stick drives.
Im mainly worried about my games saves and all my dlc. Im pretty sure with the dlc i can just delete the games or levels, transfer over my gamer profile and redownload correct? My plan is to delete all my big dlc, move all my game saves over to the usb then install the new hdd and recover my gamer tag then upload my saves and redownload my dlc and purchased games. Anyone see any flaws in my thoughts? Ir would be a real bummer to run into license transfer issues or lose my game saves.
 
When Rage released I switched my 20gb HDD with my roomates 20gb HDD since he doesn't game as much as I do. I bought a $10 8gb USB drive, used the "transfer all" button in the "memory" section of the Xbox and then moved it onto the 120gb. Easy as that.
 
So i got it transfered for the most part. My only problem is i cant get all the content off the old drive. Original xbox games cant be transfered as well as some dlc i got. They show up on the transfer screen but are shaded gray so you cant click on them.

Anyone got any ideas?
 
Original xbox saves and other data can not be transferred no matter what you try, they are tied to the original hdd. As for the dlc, the best option if it can not be transferred to the usb drive in the normal games section, then you would just have to re-download it on the new hdd.
 
Really, that sucks. Ive got decent amount on there that id hate to lose. Guess ill have to just swap drives when i want to play.
 
Ask around, they are really a one time use item, so people might have one they are never going to use again (and GS only pays $5 for them).

As some people may have gone the 20GB to 120GB to 250GB route, you may have more use of it than you might think.
