My brother can get me a 32" LCD HDTV from Best Buy with his discount for around $500. The TV however has to be either a Westinghouse or Insignia brand. Should I jump on this opportunity or should I save up for an equivalent LG brand TV?

I've heard good things about Westinghouse and their 720p models (and their 1080p ones as well), which are affordable than the more popular brands. I'm always down with getting discounts, so I vote to go with the Westinghouse.

I would not buy a TV that doesn't fully support all of the possible resolutions out there (720p, 1080p, etc.).

For $680, you can get a 24" 1080p gateway from BB. It's what I did and it's what I would advise, especially if you have a PS3 or HD-DVD player. If you have either, and don't have 1080p, you are SERIOUSLY short-changing yourself.

I disagree with everyone here about the need for 1080p. There will be at most a dozen games that support it over the next year, so you won't be missing out on much. Not to mention.. most TV networks haven't even made the jump to HD yet at any resolution, let alone 1080p. If you find a good deal on a 720p TV, I say go for it. I did and I'm happy as can be.

Yea 1080p is better, but 720p is still great. Its not like if your playing gears of war in 720p you are going to feel like the graphics arent still awesome.

I love my 32" Westinghouse. Although i paid 850 for them when they first started to go on sale. I had to buy a HDTV. My 360 made me do it :) No Rgrets though. When i buy my 65" 1080P Misubishi it will move onto a wall in the bedroom. For $500 bucks id buy another one. Thats a steal!

Don't worry about the 720p vs. 1080p argument. Unless you are 6 feet away from a 60" screen (as one example), it is physically impossible for you to discern the difference. The real problem here is that you will regret buying a cheap LCD screen.

Giving some detailed information on how the TV is going to be used would be a big help. There is no way anyone can give you an intelligent response with no information on use. Are you even sure you need an HDTV?

1080p is useless depending on how close to the set you plan on being. at 6-7', many people can't see the difference on a 42" TV. i sit 6-7' from my 50" Sony, and there's no way anyone could see any significant benefit from 1080p. 720p looks beautiful as is.

Go with the Westinghouse. The 32" models are great and even OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) recommends them. You cannot beat the quality for the price. Also don't worry about not having 1080p. Hardly any games will even support that resolution. Hardly any Networks have even made a switch to HD let alone 1080p....it is NOT needed. You will not see a difference in picture quality from a 720p set to a 1080p set unless your TV is 42" or larger.

Also keep in mind that LCD screens like this will have significant display lag unless you are playing in progressive mode.
