Hell Boy 2: The Golden Army

Looks good. I enjoyed the first Hellboy. The story was a little iffy, and the ending was kinda anticlimactic, but I thought the acting, special effects, action sequences and art direction were all very well done.

Wasn't there an animated movie released awhile ago? That any good?

The first one was good enough/made enough money to make a second one? Movie sucked, so will this one... sorry comic bitchs.

There's two actually, Sword of Storms and Blood & Iron. Both were pretty good.
Looks about as good as the first one: an ok movie
Yeah.

I can't stand his one liners though. They were carved out of cheese.

Looked really awesome. I'm a huge Hellboy fan, so take that as you will. I think I saw Johann there towards the end. I'm super hyped for this movie and think people are just complaining too much. Still, I would have liked to see a live action film of the Hellboy universe done about one of the stories from the comics. Those are just so good, especially Conquerer Worm.
That trailer killed just about all interest I ever had in this movie.
I didn't see anything wrong with it. It seemed pretty good to me.

Both are really good, though the second is a tad on the slow side in terms of plot development. I love both animated movies' openings though. Action packed with plenty of that dark, paranormal/supernatural mythos that is so classic to the Hellboy lore. The openings pretty much mimic a Hellboy novel better than the live-action movie or the entirety of the animated features have.

I actually just watched the trailer... does look good. Hopefully the screen writers did a lil better job with the puns this time.

Got my tix for tomorrow. Can't wait, hopefully this does well at the box office. I loved the James Lipton promo I caught on TV Tuesday. Good stuff.

I really think i am going to either wait awhile OR skip this movie til it hits xbl marketplace. The first one I bought on dvd and ended up not really liking it.

I was lucky enough to win tickets to see this on Tuesday night.

If you're a fan of Hellboy. If you're a fan of Superhero/comic movies. If you're a fan of Pan's Labyrinth (or Guillermo del Toro in general). If you're a fan of well-executed, visually well-crafted movies ...

Definitely a film for you.

When looking at the original Hellboy (2004), then looking at Pan's Labyrinth (2006), you can see a definite uplifting of an artistic talent. Hellboy was excellent in its own right, but by 2006, I think GdT was given a freedom with the creative look of Pan's that allowed him to explore a darker, more obscure collage-y style that worked very, very well.

In Golden Army, I saw that creativity molded back into Hellboy, bringing even more creativity in the character creation, the set design, and the overall look-and-feel of the movie. An excellent film. I definitely think it's more of an artistic journey than the first, with some more complicated themes as well.

Can't wait to hear what others think of it.

GdT wrote the recent Hellboy game (ps3 & 360) that got completely dissed by the critics? Did anyone lay hands on this?

Also: He is (already did?) directing the upcoming Hobbit movie, which should be very interesting to see where he takes that stylistically.

I thought it was great. The storybook sequence at the beginning was really cool. Adolescent Hellboy was kinda creepy though.

Okay, that part was definitely weird. Giant teeth and 50s television.. bizarre.

Saw it last night and loved it! Pacing problems aside, the film is absolutely visually stunning and a great treat. It doesn't let down the Hellboy fans. Still, I just wish they could have adapted Conqueror worm, or brought back the other nazis. Shoot, bring in the plague of frogs and then they could combine a few BPRD stories/books into the mix.

overall I liked it. The opening with young Hellboy could have been worked on a bit more...seemed awkward.

Fantastic movie. Great story, awesome practical effects! If you have any good taste at all, you'd enjoy this flick.
im not a big fan of this movie because of the gore involved my frned said its not that good.
What.

I'm lost, did you even see it or are you basing your opinion on your friend?

There's no gore in this movie whatsoever. You make it sound like they turned Hellboy into Saw or Hostel.

I really enjoyed the movie. It isn't perfect, but it is a far superior film to the first one and the character development was much deeper. I loved all the segments that made the film seem more grounded in fantasy than reality.

Saying all that, was anyone creeped out about the possibility of Hellboy getting it on? I had flashbacks of the Mallrats scene where Jason Lee discussed Superman's ability in the sack and thought about the shit that Hellboy would be packing. Fiery loads!!
Did they get rid of those awful one liners, Casey?
There might be one or two, but they did cut back on them alot. Also it needs mentioning the Angel of Death was one of the best character designs I have ever seen.

Movie was fuckin' awful. The only good scenes were the ones with the bad guy. The action scenes were passable at best, and the movie tried way too hard to be funny and failed completely every single time. The one-liners were there in full force, too, and yes, they sucked.

But I dunno, I hated the first movie, too... couldn't get past 15 minutes. I'd kinda forgotten why I hated it so much and then my friends dragged me to this one and I remembered: everybody in the movie except for like 2 humans look completely retarded.

I'm willing to bet you like such classics as: Fast & Furious and the Resident Evil Trilogy.
Not even close.
I might be willing to be that you're rarely impressed with superhero movies in general.

If you didn't like the first, then yeah, you're probably not going to like the second.

What I like about the two is that they're clearly grounded in fantasy, they integrate CG effects with live action seamlessly - so well, in fact, that I think most people don't even realize it (that big red hand isn't animatronic, people) - and Red's struggle with trying to be a 'regular guy', when clearly he isn't.

We're not talking about Shawshank. It's a superhero action movie based on a comic. And, considering the other crap that's out there, this one's near the top. As a movie in general, it's still pretty decent. The art style ... as I've said ... is just stunning.

My opinion, of course. Just trying to approach it subjectively.

Also, I didn't think the 'one liners' were as cheesy as the first movie. There were only a few, but well placed for some comedic value.

I swear I thought the same exact thing.

Overall, I liked HB2 more then the first. But, I do realize I'm a biased comic book fan.

After watching Hellboy 2, I really don't mind Guillermo Del Toro doing the Hobbit. Visually, I think he might do a better job than Peter Jackson.
