Help me build my PS3 collection.

Liverano

CAGiversary!
I just got a PS3 the 1st of the year. Took out the 40gb HD and threw a 1 TB in there. Filled it with digital BR rips.

Anyhow, I decided I really want to start a good collection. I've come up with some guidelines I'll set for myself. Try to keep ALL purchases below $20 unless game is deemed a MUST HAVE. Try to avoid GH cases if possible, stay away from older yearly sports titles, if I buy pre-owned I only buy with case and manual, it's a deal breaker and finally...I WILL NEVER TRADE A GAME IN.

So far I've picked up 26 games through B2G1 sales, PMing ads, and most recently the buy 6 get 30% + 10% off at GameStop.

So far here is my collection:

Batman
Castlevania
Def Jam Icon (Joke to play with my Fat Joe obsessed friend)
Devil May Cry 4
DJ Hero
DJ Hero 2
Fight Night 3
God of War Collection
God of War III
GTA IV
Mafia II CE
Mercenaries 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
MK vs DC
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Saints Row 2
Silent Hill Homecoming
Stranglehold (Don't know why I bought. $5 and the 6th game of my buy 6 deal)
Street Fighter IV
TNA Impact! (Game sucks, again joke with a friend)
Tomb Raider: Underworld
UFC 2010
Uncharted
Uncharted 2 GOTY
Smackdown vs Raw 2011

What staples am I missing?

I'd like to pick up Dead Space and RE 5 but am waiting for a cheap Gold version of RE5. I don't like FPS, so they're out. I don't like yearly sports titles but I'm obsessed with MMA and Wrestling hence why I have those. Maybe Sega Genesis Collection? I've considered LBP but was told that since I primarily play single player I would not like it.

I do want the upcoming Marvel v Capcom 3, MK, and DC games...but I want to wait a couple months for price drops and scoop them up on a B2G1 perhaps.

It depends on what you like unless you want everything. Some good titles that can be found $20 or under are Resistance 1, Killzone 2, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, and Borderlands.

I would get Little Big Planet if I were you too or at least try it out for yourself. I had people always tell me oh, you'll hate Borderlands if you just play single player. Finally picked it up anyway, played it and loved it.

Appreciate the input. I'll check out those titles. I'd pretty much grab anything under $10 with full manual/case & artwork. For $10-20 I'd want to be interested in it. For over $20 it'd have to be too good to pass up (Uncharted 2 GOTY for 25, SvR '11 for 20) or must have have.

I'd add a set of Sega-published titles to your collection: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza 3, and Bayonetta. With the exception of Yakuza, all can be found for $12-18.

Thanks! I'll be adding Yakuza(25 @ Amazon), LBP GOTY (20 @ WM) soon

May wait on a drop for Genesis Collection. Currently $18 @ Amazon. Maybe down the line I can get it cheaper

FYI: MK vs. DC blows. The fatalities are nowhere near the over the top ones Midway used to put into the older games and the 'storyline' mode consists of cutscene, MK fight, rinse and repeat.

There is really no exploring of the game world in the 'story' mode unlike last gen's MK games that had the RPG-ish story mode. It's only worth about what I paid for it($2 and change after a $20 BB RZ Christmas bonus certificate).

By the way you may wanna keep an eye on the Amazon Warehouse Deals site for cheap copies of some games you want. I just picked up Little Big Planet GOTY last week from them for $14 shipped in used-mint condition.

I got MK/DC new for $10. I thought it was worth it. I like the DC animated films, for me it was like playing a pair of the DC animated movies.

sooo, are you actually gonna play all these games or you just want a big ass collection so you can fit in with the rest of us that have backlogs??

Kinda crazy/stupid you've acuired 26 games in 2 weeks dude. If you have patience, all these games your buying (like it's the end of the world) will be cheaper in 2012 when you actually get around to playing them.

since you are just gonna end up buying whatever deal pops up here on cag, HERE

I paid $314 for 26 games. Lots of deals, PUR coupons, PMs, B2G1 Frees, and then a buy 6 and get 30% off + 10% off. The next few weeks will probably be dry.

In my opinion game collecting was never an intentional "goal" with most of the people here. It's just something that has happened over the years of acquiring more and more games. If anything, learn patience. You gotta wait till the deal is just right.
As far as what games I think you'd like, I'd pick up Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Little BIg Planet, and Maybe a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game.

For sure. But look at my posted YTD pick ups. Mind you, I was just trying to get my collection up to speed. I think I did well.

There's quite a few story heavy third person games there so I'd suggest the Assassin's Creed games.

Also Little Big Planet is totally the single player experience. If you go online you'll really only be going online to play other people's levels single-player. I would suggest that you don't pick up the first game and only the second as the library of user created content from the first game is available on LBP2. But only buy this game if you like platform games.

Oh and though you have said you don't like FPS it still might be worth a look at Fallout 3. It will soak up loads of time in a fantastic single player if it hooks you. You can always stick it in 3rd person mode.

Finally if you can get them really cheap, Infamous and Enslaved are worth a look at as well.

I really liked Infamous. The PS3 doesn't get much play time from me but that and Uncharted are some of the best games I've play on any console period.

Dirt 2 was $15 @ Kmart last I checked and is pretty sweet if you like racing games. You could also find Mindnight Club for cheap but you'll most likely only find the GH version.

I feel the Ratchet & Clank games are must-haves and both can be had on the cheap. The Resistance games are also both pretty good and cheap by now. 3D Dot Game Heroes and Enslaved would round your list out nicely as well. Oh, and if you really dig RPGs, white Knight Chronicles isnt too bad for sub $20 territory.

I second the Assassin's Creed recommendation seeing as how alot of what you seem to play is 3rd person action they are quite good and inexpensive titles in that category.

For a PS3 exclusive I'd look at Demon's Souls. It's very good action rpg/dungeion crawler type title with decent replay value and it's pretty goddamn challenging game to boot. Plus youd should be able to find around $20 or less used now.
