Help needed from somebody totally new to this...

CAGiversary!
Edit: I just realized my thread title should say "for", not "from". Crud.

Backstory:

So I took my dog to the vet today, routine checkup and all that. I just got a call from them. Turns out she tested positive for heartworms.

I don't have $900 just lying around, and they need the money upfront so I can't just pay later. What I do have though is over 700 video games and about 15 different game systems.

I have never sold anything online, ever. I have no clue how to go about doing that. I have no feedback (positive or negative) on Ebay, Amazon, etc. Would I even be able to sell them at these places?

I've considered Craigslist, but how hard is it to sell classic video games there?

And how should I price them? I vaguely have an idea what some of them are worth, but how do I find out for sure?

I'm probably leaving stuff out. I'm a bit flustered at the moment. I just needed to ask somebody else's opinion on this since I feel totally in the dark.

You could sell them anywhere. You would not get quite as much having no feedback, but you could get $900 pretty quickly if you have that many games. Putting a list up here and taking offers is a great way as well. If you sell to established traders you should be able to get the money you need pretty soon I would think.

Well, if you have that many I recommend creating a list in a word document first. Then start by listing them here with what you want for price. To sell on here if you need the cash quick definitely gonna need to use paypal. I'd list them on craigslist as well but list them individually or in smaller bundles. Be prepared for lots of lowballs though. If you have good stuff and ae realistic about prices you can do ok. Ebay would be best but would require alot more time and effort.

You could post them here--I don't know what your timeline is, but if you'd be willing to ship first to worthy (see: good feedback) CAGers, I'm sure you'd find a handful of good buyers (including myself).

eBay, Amazon and other vendors might be a decent choice, though your lack of feedback may impede your ability to sell your games at a decent price in those forums.

If you have the time, I would list out the games you'd be willing to sell, your terms and methods of payment (Paypal recommended).

Sorry to hear about your dog...God bless.

Well, figuring out the prices could require some serious legwork. You can see completed listings on ebay to get an idea of what things have been selling for. But there are multiple variables.

1. Is the seller established?
2. Is the description detailed as to condition?
3. Is there a generic default picture or did the seller take a picture of the item?

Also, the length of the auction comes into play, since 7 day auctions that end on a weekend tend to do better than a 1 day auction in the middle of the week. Remember that ebay takes fees and so will Paypal.

Craigslist is local area, so it's great for quick sale but you limit your selling area. So you will likely get less.

Amazon has a seller marketplace, but I've never sold there. I hear their fees are kinda high.

You can get a quick idea of value of your games at www.videogamepricecharts.com

I'd recommend putting up a list with prices at CAG and perhaps some other video game websites to see what you can get.

sorry to hear about your dog, just paid $968 for my cat, vet bills suck

get a list posted, but yeah, you're gonna want paypal

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm sorting through my personal list and I'll post a list of my sellable games as soon as possible. There will be a lot.

And thanks for that link Lord_Kefka, it's extremely helpful.

you don't need to post your entire collection, just the ones that you don't the know the values for.

of course you can also do your own research and check ebay completed listings.

I have about a hundred or so Sega CD games, all with manuals but no cases, including Snatcher and Keio Flying Squadron.

How much would the lack of a case hurt the value?
