After many weeks of careful research and testing - I purchased an Iriver h320 - the 20 gig big brother to the h10. Don't let all the Creative, Apple, Sony, etc fans fool you...the iriver is a QUALITY product. Everything about the Iriver imo is superior above all others save 1 feature...the menus can be cumbersome. However, if you're good with gadgets, it's easily overcome once you learn the menu system. Otherwise, you get FAR MORE bang for your buck including the ability to record directly to mp3. I can also attest to the quality of the condensor mic of the h320...as I've made some surprisingly nice bootlelgs of live shows I've attended as well as the line in works great if you have the ability to get a board feed. Add an fm tuner, color screen, longer battery life than most, upgradeable firmware, NO NEED FOR PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE, a surprisingly decent sounding set of senheisser earbuds - and I can't see where anyone would want an ipod over one of these. That being said, when I was choosing, I did feel that the Creative products were runner up - not a slouch either. My personal choice would be the iriver, as it's just so much more versitile...but I would recommend EITHER player over all others in terms of value.

Yea, Iriver is good, but I took the cheaper route and got a Zen Touch - good stuff but the software sucks and transfer speeds are slow, and little support from Creative...but on the upper hand, theres the battery life - >24 hours.

The Iriver is the way to go. I did a ton of research on DAP a while back, and it seems iRivers are of the highest quality. Ipods seem to freeze and the batteries die. Creative Zens' headphones jack goes bad quick. iAudio has no screen. And all the other players were sub par with functionality. Ive had my iRiver iHP-120 (H120) for about a year and its been running great. iRiver products, highly recommended

I have no clue about the I-River or Zen but I do know the Creative Nomad is a piece of crap. Warranty is 90 days and mine broke shortly after and I have heard of a lot of other people having the same trouble. Some companies will bend on the warranty and fix it for free but Creative WILL NOT, they will no stand behind their products.

I've had an iRiver CD-MP3 player for nearly 4 years. I really like it, and it works like the day I bought it. I was a bit skeptical of the iRiver brand, but I ended up being really impressed.

I have NEVER heard of a company bending their warranty. Usually, they all want to screw you over. Maybe you have gotten lucky, but not once have I heard of a company going beyond what they are required to do from a warranty.

Edit- for spelling.

I'm a little down on iRiver right now. I bought my wife a iFP-790 and one of the functions has recently stopped working. I can't get any response from customer service at the iRiver site. I was leaning towards picking up a higher-end iRiver model, but I'm now hesitant due to this.

Riiiight. You must get something awesome when you're spend $400 for a 20 gig player and have the battery crap out on you and then find out that you have to pay $120 just to get the battery replaced right? ;)

if your in college, get an ipod, because you get itunes and put all your songs on there, then you can share songs with everyone in your network and it is just so simple!

Go with the iRiver! I have an iRiver iHP-120 and it has been working fine except for a minor problem, audio jack seems to be getting a little sketchy. Although this is probably due to the fact that I haven't treated it as well as I should. iRiver makes a good product.

Please go with iRiver, I returned my Zen Micro to Circuit City last night. Reason? Broken headphones, broken headphone jack, horrible battery(Only lasted like 6 hours), harddrive was erasing all music, and it eventually wouldnt even connect with my computer. So I bought back an Xbox!
