His and Her Circumstances DVD Bundle $39.99 at RightStuf

This set is almost always on sale for that price there. It's a great deal for a great series. I think they only sell the 5 DVD's but without the box. I got the Neo Ranga bundle and that's how mine came, no box. I believe that's the difference.

I guess for a difference of almost $80, I'd rather get the dvds without the hardcase. Based on your experience with the Neo Ranga bundle, did they come in regular dvd cases or was it some type of cheap packaging?

Mine too came with artbox.
 
There were two sales. SO I dunno. For example, a year agoo I ordered the set but it came withthe box. It was also $40. But that one explicitly said it was the box set. Also, going back to my older order, it links to the current $116 Link.

But you may get lucky. You'll get the individual retail DVD's at least.
 
I believe they have had the set on sale both with and without the box. If the sale is for the "DVD Bundle," you won't get the box. If it's for the "'box set," you will. It works that way with all RS specials. I got this a while back as a "DVD Bundle" and didn't get a box.
 
I decided to buy this set along with Grave of the Fireflies for $9.99. Can you guys recommend me some more animes that I should buy? I enjoy animes such as Love Hina, Kodocha, Cowboy Bebop and Vandread. My friend lent me copies of Chobits and Fruits Basket.

Now and Then, Here and There is great but NOT FOR KIDS. Very Mature Subject matter.
There's lots of good stuff out there.

If you enjoy Cowboy Bebop, you owe it to yourself to check out Samurai Champloo. :)
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll probably look into ordering or renting some of those animes once I get through His and Her Circumstances.

They came individually sealed in their normal DVD cases as you would see them in the store. I just didn't luck out and get a box. Sometimes they put the box bundles on sale, switch it up every now and then.

I think you'll enjoy His&Her - great plot and characters, but there were a LOT of filler eps. IMO it would've been perfect as a 13-episode series.

If you like His and Her Circumstances, hell if you like anime at all get Saikano. Seriously, it's a masterpeice of emotion. The only thing is that it is wicked depressing. I honestly wouldn't watch it all in one sitting it's just so heavy. But definitely check that out.
 
downloaded this series..i got thru most of it..and it was very nice, i loved it..highly recomend this..if i had the money, id jump on this like a *racist/sexual analogy here*

Yes by ALL means grab Saikano, words alone cannot describe what it can do to you. My wife who normally isn't into much Anime was glued to it and made by run out to grab the rest in one shot at BB. This is one of those rare animes that have you think WTF and it does it in an incredible way. I was flloored.

My 3 favorite anime of all time:

Fullmetal Alchemist- It's on Adult Swim, and it's damn good. You ahve no exucase not to watch at least a bit of it.

Heroic Legend of Arislan: An epic drama of two kingdoms at war. Almost Shakespearean in tone, and painstakingly goregous (when you consider the age, it amazing some of the shots they do.) It's a tad hard to find, but not too pricey if you do- just be careful not to get the dub-only DVDs, the dialog gets rather cheeseball in the dub.

Azumanga Daioh: The Seinfeld of anime. A bunch of girls go to high school. And it's absoultely adorable. This is out as ani-mini DVDs, so you can get an episode for 4-10 bucks, depending on where you shop. The manga's good, too!

Yes Azumanga does indeed rock! Highschool should have always been this cool and funny from the get go! Awesome characters, great voices, I laughed more at this than any other anime I have ever watched. Tomo and Kagura alone are worth the price of admission and the last disc makes the whole trip so worth the while.

I just finished watching His and Her Circumstances. I enjoyed it except for a couple flaws. This anime has way too much recapping going on as well as a cliff-hanger ending. I was like WTF?!!? I wish they'd make another season or some OVA episodes. It also seemed like they ran out of money in the later episodes, but that was probably just for artistic style. Considering everything, it still was a good buy for me. I'll now go check out some of the recommendations you guys listed.
 
Can someone give me some input on these? I am very new to anime (have only seen Ghost in the Shell) and got these recommendations and wanted to see what you guys thought since some of you seem to be well versed in anime. Thanks!

Hellsing: Great animation quality, but more of an average plotline. You see the ending coming from a mile away, so while it's fun to watch, there isn't really anything that compelling here.

Trigun: One of the three "space cowboy" series that all got released around the same time. This one is pretty good. It mixes action with humor, and slowly gets darker as it reaches it's conclusion. It's not a bad one to watch.

Outlaw Star: Another one of the "space cowboy" series. I would rate this one as the weakest of the three. That doesn't mean that it's bad, but apart from a few inspired episodes, most of the anime is pretty average.

NGE: An obvious choice. If you haven't seen this yet, watch it. It's basically an anime by which all other animes are measured.

Excel Saga: A hyper-fast comedy anime. This one is all over the place, like it's permanently on crack. The jokes are mostly parodies of other animes though, so if you're not that familiar with animes and it's sterotypes, it might not be a good idea to watch this quite yet.

And of course, you left off a "space cowboy" series which really should be called THE "space cowboy" series. If you haven't watched Cowboy Bebop, you need to ... now. Just like NGE, it's a definitive series by which other series will be measured.

So I highely recommend hitting up CB and NGE first.

Thanks for the input! I had planned on checking out Cowboy Bebop anyway, but it's good to know it's a must see. I'll also check out NGE and wait on Excel Saga. I'll likely pass on the others though. Thanks again!
