Hitachi 250GB IDE HD $92.49 w/free ship

That's not bad. What's the general opinion on Hitachi HDs?

For some reason, I swear that Hitachi was responsible for making the old IBM TravelStar (DEATHSTAR) HDs which were notorious for failing....
 
Hitachi makes a very solid drive. There are alot of people who complain about maxtor, seagate, western digital but very few who will complain about hitachi drives. I've owned about 15 drives in the last 6 years or so, 3/4 of my maxtors died within 3 years, I've only had 1 out of 3 WD drives die go bad, the seagate in my parents computer is going strong, but I've had 4 Hitachi's or so that have lasted over 5 years.
 
i can vouch that maxtors suck. i've used about 5 in my xbox/pc some have died.

seagate is the way to go. hitachi i'm sure has improved alot but they really tarnished themselves good for what they did in the past.
