HLN News

blindinglights

CAGiversary!
I generally try to avoid this network like the plague, but they keep it on one of the TVs at the local gym so I end up seeing some of their "news" from time to time. Has anyone else seen some notably funny stuff on there?

Stuff I saw today:

"The man who claims to be responsible for the attacks on the WTC goes to trial today", during which they have a gigantic picture of Saddam on the screen.

They also did a story about the guy who committed suicide but released all his exotic animals before he did. Apparently the widow is getting some of the animals back. One of the commentators said something like "they're going to give these animals back to the woman WHO LET THIS HAPPEN?!" Yep, apparently she gave the go-ahead to her husband to release all the wild animals. Not sure if she was aware of the final step to his plan though.

HLN is a complete joke of a news agency. The other day on my break it was on in the breakroom, they were going on and on about this woman who had disappeared. They initially made their bombastic Nancy Gracy type claims of "could it be her ex-husband with whom she was feuding?!?!" but then it turns out the ex-husband had the kids all night. So, at this point, you would think they would back off their claims right? Nope, fuck that, they begin to launch into the fact that they're executing a search warrant for her house, which the husband used to live in. dun dun dun!!!!!!

So then, at the end of the segment, almost as an aside, they mention that on the night she disappeared she went on a date with a "mystery man" that no one knows the name of or where he is now. Huh, seems to me you might have wanted to lead with that part of the story rather than convict the ex-husband.

That whole fucking network is a god damn joke that even Fox News could justifiably feel superior to.

I saw HLN in the title and thought HSN instead...lolz

HLN is pretty much a completely tabloid "news" network that is the epitome of infotainment to a perverse degree. On the brightside, they don't pretend to be legitimate. At least that's my impression.

The wife likes watching it for some odd reason. It is pretty "tabloid" and involves alot of shouting. And if you watch it more than a half hour you'll see the same stories repeated over and over and over.

The only reasons I ever watched HLN while it was still on our cable lineup(moving to a lower 'tier' eliminated that channel and both CNBC and MSNBC, leaving only CNN or Faux News:whistle2:&) were as follows:

Robin Meade:drool::

But yeah, they usually repeat the same news stories all day once they report them in the mornings. Then again, if you listen to enough terrestrial radio during the day you'll notice a repeating pattern many, many times too.

I liked HLN back when it was a station you could get the day's headlines on every 15-30 minutes. It was a nice alternative to the other 24-hour news networks which tend to focus almost entirely on one or two stories. Then they discovered Nancy Grace, she got some undeserved success, and now everyone on that network (with perhaps the exception of the morning people, unless that's changed recently) has to have grandiose and blusterous opinions about everything they report on.

I found it amusing a few years ago when you could easily tell which "journalists" were angling for their own timeslot on CNN or HLN. There was one guy that would just get outraged over almost everything he reported on. In a way, it was entertaining just to see what part of the story would upset him, but it got old fast. Between stuff like this and CNN's misguided attempts to integrate social media, HLN really isn't something I can stomach much anymore.

Robin Meade is sexy... and I believe former miss Oklahoma as well.

Is HLN the network with Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell?... God I hate those two.

Yep. That's the network. So while I miss HLN that got dropped from our cable lineup because I can no longer watch Robin Meade in the morning, I kinda don't care too much because of all of the other crap that was on HLN(Dr. Drew, Nancy Grace, etc). Nancy Grace actually made Geraldo look tame by comparison with her coverage of the Casey Anthony saga. I swear Geraldo had a virtual 5+ year woody for OJ during his murder trial and even after.

Mind ya, up till a year or two ago, we had Miss Missouri 2006(Kristi Capel) as the weather girl on a local station here(WBRE-TV).

For your consideration, here's a pic:

Or MSDS sheets or ATM machines.

Yeah, it was designed to basically be the USA Today of TV News channels. The days news in short, easy to consume bursts for people strapped for time.

It was ok when they stuck with that, but is awful now that they focus on Nancy Grace and other shows rather than just giving the news quickly and repeating it over and over so you could flip over any time during the day and see what the top stories of the day were.
