Hooking up Turtle Beach X12 to Xbox Slim?

To anyone that has hooked up a Turtle Beach X12 headset to their Xbox 360 Slim with an HDMI connection, what additional cables are required if any? I'm confused on what I would need to get if I purchase an X12 headset.

or if your tv has an audio out slot, you can just hook the beaches to the tv directly.

I can hook them to the audio out and the sound will still come out even while using HDMI for video?

There's a separate HDMI adapter I had to buy for my pair of X12's. I didn't know you had an option NOT to use it.
