I decided we need more shooter/zapper-compatible love here, and I didn't see a thread for this game yet.

Here's the Metacritic link. There are not enough review for a composit score yet, but the consensus seems to be if you like arcade shooters you will like this. If you are expecting a deep and impressive gaming experience, you will be disappointed. Duh.

New "extreme mode" article:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/855/855432p1.html
In addition, players who battle through both titles will unlock the Wii-exclusive extreme mode, am altered single-player mode in House of the Dead III which features quicker enemy attacks and smaller bullet blast radiuses for your guns. It's hard, in other words. But aiding you in your zombie-killing quest is the ability to reload your shotgun much faster and an all-new melee attack.

I'm a little sad that this game will be in 4:3, but I coped with Ghost Squad (I didn't even notice after a few minutes of play) and I'll get by with this one too. Because I get to shoot zombies.

Release Date: March 11th
MSRP: $29.99

Here's the official Capcom fact sheet:

And some highlights from gonintendo after someone watched a video preview:

- To reload, you only have to point the cursor off the screen. No waggle, no trigger-pressing.
- House of the Dead 2 doesn’t have the light flickering on each shot that was in the Xbox version
- More cursors/options in this release.
- Online stat-tracking
- local co-op only.
- 1.5 hours to finish 2 and 3 each if you are very skilled
- House of the Dead 1 isn’t included because of graphical disparity.
- Wii speaker integration for reloading sounds.

I'll be picking this up as well. Though I only have played HotD 2. Though I think sales might be bad for this, March 11, I think it would have been better if they pushed it back a little later in the month but who knows.

Count me in, definitely picking this title up. Didn't notice it was coming out so soon though, thanks OP.

This is unique: That they would recognize how much easier it is to shoot with the remote vs analog stick and including a harder mode to compensate

I've only played (the brilliant) Typing of the Dead. Not sure if I want this or Ghost Squad more - this has way more levels, but I like the tons of unlockables in Ghost Squad. Can anyone tell me a bit more about the games? Do Ghost Squad and HotD 3 have the same level of hilariously bad dubbing as HotD 2?

I want Typing of the Dead for the Wii so badly. Ghost Squad has some dialogue, but not much. The dubbing is pretty bad, but there's not enough of it to be "hilarious" the way I think you want it. The unlockables will keep you busy for a long time; I'm not sure if the Wii HotD will have as many unlockables.

Hahaha, no.
or the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™
I wonder what you'd need a nunchuk for?

In Ghost Squad, some of the control modes assign an action button to one of the nunchuk buttons. I think.

typing of the dead is freaken awesome but the wii doesnt support a keyboard in game. I'll be picking this up. I hope target will have them in stock. I heard HotD 4 is coming out for xbox 360. I'm so excited for that !

the wii now support a keyboard... also based on sales Sega is rumored to bring house of the dead 4 to the wii as well as typing of the dead and totd 2.

omg, I'm going to be so excited if they actually release Typing of the Dead :D

And I'm also going to be picking this up as well. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles was only a warm up for my sister and I ;)

I'm hoping they have real remote calibration for this game as opposed to the slide bar type adjustment in Links crossbow training. It can't be that hard to add 4-point calibration, right?

Bmulligan: Ghost Squad had it so I'm almost for sure HotD will. They're both Sega shooters of the same type, it wouldn't make sense not to use what Ghost Squad had.

That would be for if you were playing with the zapper. Not sure how exactly it would function, weapon select perhaps? If they add extra stuff like in the Dreamcast version. There was tons of extras IIRC.

That wink has me worried

I really think Sega needs to put all its Arcade games on the Wii. It really is suited for these quick fix arcade type games. Start a whole arcade line and bring all the the cool stuff like Virtua Cop, Ocean Hunter, Jurassic Park, LA Machineguns (LOVED THIS), etc. Namco needs to take notice as well and bring out Point Blank Wii and the Vampire/Ninja/Crisis games. I'm surprised Mocap Boxing hasn't hit Wii yet and some more sword games.

I've been excited for this for a while now. HOD3 was one of my favorite arcade shooters. I will be using the $25 gift card i got from E-rewards for part of this. After I play it for a bit I might get the nyko perfect shot to go with this, but will have to see how it works without it. I haven't bought any other wii shooters (except wii zapper), but i think i will love this. I will miss the shootie though.

Yea I'm exicited House of the Dead Games are amazing. I played House of the Dead 4 at the Arcades ala' Dave & Buster since they are one of the few places that still have arcade games still around. Anyway I never played 3 and the bouns material looks good.

Lastly if Ghost Squad was well done then hopefully House of the Dead 2 & 3 have that same quality to them.

This is a fantastic idea! It should take minimal effort on their part and at budget pricing they would sell plenty on the Wii.
Online co-op would make this perfect. Otherwise, i'll be picking this up for sure.
Multiplayer online in this type of game is a big meh. Its definitely the type where you want to be sitting next to the person so you can slap each others arms when going for high scores. If I'm not mistaken all the HOD games have both players sharing the same screen anyway. Shooters where the players take split paths like Time Crisis would benefit more from online play.

I was aiming more for online play with actual friends, when you can't get together of course to play at one's house, as oppose to just random online play. But this game will still be great regardless.

I'm still waiting for the Sega Racing Collection...OutRun, OutRun 2, Daytona, Daytona 2, Sega Rally, Sega Rally 2, Virtua Racing...I would buy that - and whatever system I would have to to play it on - in a heartbeat.

Agreed. Now, HotD 1 as an unlock-able would make this perfect
and it's on the very back page of the Friday Fry's ad and listed available as of Wednesday at 2PM.
Best Buy is listing the game as a Wednesday release as well now, and Gamestop has their standard "Pre-Release Ships 3/11/08" which usually means it's not available until the next day. I can't believe I have to wait until Wednesday. What happened to games coming out on a certain day like movies? Brawl had an actual release day. Whine.

Im glad I can finally spend my $25 TRU GC from MG!! Plus I have an extra $10 off coupon.

TRU will be carrying this right? Anyone going to pick it up there? Post if you know when it arrives.

Whats that lame excuse as to why HotD 1 isnt included? The graphics what?

Yeah, they claim the graphics aren't acceptable by modern standards. Maybe next we'll get a HotD 1 & 4. With Typing of the Dead on it.

Ahhh. Well even if it didnt look hot, they shoulda done it for fun or to make it seem more bang for the buck....

.... OR theyre REdoing it ala RE1 from PS to GC for some rehash rerelease, but maybe thats dreaming :)

So is there any real reason to grab this on the Wii versus the XBox? I am considering selling my XBox copy but It's only gonna net me $15ish+ on fleabay, so I would have to wait for a good price drop and to find it used... or buy it on eBay.

Uh, yeah, because it's awesome. And it's two full games. And if you haven't used up Google Chckout bonuses on buy.com you can get it for $20 shipped after GCO, so you're only paying $5 to upgrade.

I second this idea, or third it. I can't believe that SEGA, being an expert in reissuing old games ad infinitum, hasn't done this yet. Maybe they are just gauging interest in these old arcade games with Ghost squad and HOTD. If they sell well enough, hopefully the floodgates may be opened. I know I'd buy a Virtual Cop/LA Machine Guns compilation. I'd also re-buy the Point Blank series if Namco brought it to the Wii.

Unless you have Xbox lightguns, I give the Wii version the edge mainly on controls.

Dammit, I'm too impatient. I couldn't find this anywhere on my lunch. I just ordered it online instead because I won't have time to go out during the day the rest of the week. To celebrate me not getting the game today, here are some Alice Cooper lyrics. Oddly enough, I have no particular affinity for Alice Cooper, zombies, or necrophilia, but I've gotten myself really worked up about this game.

I love the dead before they're cold
Their bluing flesh for me to hold
Cadaver eyes upon me see nothing
I love the dead before they rise
No farewells, no goodbyes
I never knew your rotting face
While friends and lovers mourn your silly grave
I have other uses for you, Darling
We love the dead
We love the dead, Yeah
IGN reviewed it http://wii.ign.com/articles/858/858728p1.html

They kept saying how its too expensive at $30 but I think most would agree its a good value.
Eh, it's a mediocre review - I think they just wanted to have a review out there for it. At half the price of most current gen games, I don't see how the price is an issue. Especially for a CAG like me who will never pay full price (this one was free for me).

Why does hotd3 look worst than the xbox version. Re4 looks better than hotd3 on xbox so its a pretty cheap port. That said 35 bucks with the gun shell from frys is hard to pass up.

it is over price in the sense that it is a port of a 5 years old xbox game, and the game has been $20 on the xbox for years. Also unlike RE4 there is not much of an improvement. They really should have include HoTD4. like ghost squad this is another attempt to cash in on the wii zapper. Personally I think both game should be on PS2 as I still prefer guncon 2. Heck I still think Vampire Night is the best sega light gun game. Now having said that I would still get the game, but only because of the Frys deal.

This is a minimal effort port as pointed out in the review. They made a excellent point that HotD1 was never ported to a console and would take extra work. I think its a fair price point for two games as Ghost Squad came out at the same price and is only one game which is significantly shorter even with all the extras.

HotD4 would no way be included, it would not fit on the disc. The game is in HD and suposedly Sega's new arcade boards are built/based on the 360. 4 would have to be totally remade for the Wii but it was be risky to waste the resources without testing the waters. Now if 2/3 Returns sold a whole lot, then I could see Sega going for it.

That is almost exactly what sega said. So if we get more people to buy HoD then they are gonna port more games. They also said that if ti sells well they will put the effort into reducing 4's graphics to work on the wii.

Wait a minute House of the Dead 1 was put out on the Saturn and Windows too. Back in 1996. Ign is totally wrong on that point!

http://www.amazon.com/The-House-of-..._7?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1205315077&sr=1-7

and the pc version!

http://www.amazon.com/Sega-85075-Ho..._4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1205315077&sr=1-4

So overall IGN while I do like their reviews it seems they slacked big time and they didn't mention how the saturn port of house of the dead 1 was the first console port for the series!! Which means that porting HoTD 1 would be fairly easy to port over and personally besides the second game i love the first and typing of the dead the best.
