And when I mean girls I mean the ladies you meet and make small talk. Usually the question of “what do you like to do for fun” or “what do you like to do in your spare time” come up when meeting a new girl. The truth is I don’t mention video games when I’m asked this question. I usually drop one of my more exciting hobbies when I’m asked this question. And when I do tell a girl about my hobby of playing video games I frame it in the context of “you know how some guys love sports ? Well I really like video games”. I do this because there are a few girls that have had bad experiences with dudes paying too much attention to something like sports. So I want her to think “well he likes video games but at least he doesn’t like sports”.

So I guess I tend to hide my enjoyment of video games, but I figure if I have a future with the girl I’m talking to she will have plenty of time to figure out how much I like video games.

...if they come back here and they see my collection, so what? Sometimes they'll even sit down and play a few games. Girls like games too, you know.

If you are a serious gamer than that is one of the things that should come out first when she asks about your hobbies. Don't beat around the bush or else it might become a problem later because she may not know what kind of person she is getting with.

I wouldn't even bother with a girl unless she loved games herself, what is the point? Sex isn't worth hiding my true love of video games.

lol o yes it is...

I usually dodge that issue, at least on a first date, unless I know going in that she likes things like video games. For one reason it's because I don't like to talk about myself so much as figure what her life is like, but also because of the reasons the OP implied too. However, I'll never try to hide it so if they outright as if I enjoy stuff like video games or anime I'll say yes.

if a girl cant accept that youre a total nerd, shes prolly not good for you, because if youre reading this, youre a total nerd.

im not saying every girl has to play every single game, im just saying they have to be accepting of your hobbies as they would hope you would be accepting of theirs.

my gf played air hockey with me on the first date and pwnd me. =[ i didnt lose purposely either. does that count? and we played bust-a-move together and got owned in that too. =[ but ill beat her at street fighter any day

it all comes down to what girl you find. In this day in age since PS2 and Xbox has gotten main stream, more girls play games like NFSU and GTA. Hell my cousin's girl is a hardcore Tekken player. I have never seen Kazuya low spinning sweep come out consistently like her. I also never got owned so bad in TTT by a player until i met her My other friend told me straight up that she liked games she dont care and she is defitnitly a looker. Hell she even told me the 30 live code for the original Contra..if that isnt closet nerd than i dunno what it is.
Another fact, most hot girls..well if they like the guy enough...they usually dont care if they are a hardcore gaming nerd. They will sit there and watch or even pick up the controller and play themselves..happend with Halo and Tetris Worlds. atleast what i saw anyway...

I think we are passed the point where all gamers are condemned by society and labeled "nerds." You shouldn't be ashamed to tell the ladies that you game, hell, one of the best places to meet chicks is at one of the few arcades still left.

If you're looking for more than a one night stand it's a very bad start to hide a major aspect of your life. I mean, if you're a serial killer, yeah, you should keep it under wraps until you've determined whether she's a potential partner or just another shallow grave.

My girlfriend plays Final Fantasy XI and Mario Kart with me... I don't think I'd be able to date a girl who doesn't play at least some video games. There are plenty of girls out there who either don't mind, or actually like that you're into games.

I just say I like to play video games, and blah, blah, (insert hobbies here).

No reason to hide it right?

Then again... I haven't been on a date in awhile... hmmm, I wonder.

one more reason why I don't use my love for videogames as an early fun fact is it's not very inviting to anything girl/relationship realted. Most girls still can't identify with video games.

And I have run into girls reaction was "you like video games.....Like counter strike...."

I knew the way she said CS she had ran into a guy who spent too much time playing video games. So I quickly said "yeah but I'm not nuts like some guys, I just play for fun".

I'm usually pretty blunt about it. Although, the fact that I've been with one girl for the past 5 years helps, since I'm not really shopping anymore... Besides, what other hobbies am I gonna dazzle them with... Comics? Anime? Porn? :)
sbly doesn't have time for the ladies because he's too busy watching Taylor Rain :p
Are you implying that there are other ladies? I had no idea .

i am a complete and utter nerd...and i think my GF is slowly understanding this

I dont really bring it up on the first date. Its best for the girl to discover this about you on her own.

A female friend of mine doesnt tell ppl that she plays games. Though after I told her that I play games, she told me about her little secret. She loves to play violent games (shooting, fighting, horror), racing games w/ those wheels, and dancing games like DDR.

Eh... speak for yourself... I'm just cheap. Call me what you want, but I get way too much action to be a classic nerd... maybe a neo-classic nerd, of course I'm a horse, so what does it matter anyway?

I don't even bother trying to impress girls anymore. In high school I used to dress well, wear cologne, and all that BS; now I couldn't care less. All the girls I was attracting before were phony little whores (although smokin' hot). I just got disgusted with that whole scene.
The main thing is to just do/wear/be whatever you want to, even if you catch some shit for it. A lot of my friends are these little Abercrombie pussies who take two hours to get ready for class and wear pink shirts because "chicks think that's sexy."
I don't shave or cut my hair, I have a lip piercing, I wear women's jeans and kids shirts, and I study so much I can't sleep. Cool people know that's how I am, and they don't care--because they'll take the time to get to know me. Anyone else isn't worth my time or effort.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't find girls who play videogames sexy. I want 'em dolled up, and cooking me up a steak while I play Halo.

Yea, everytime I get a new girl I never mention anything about Video Games. I pretty much drop gaming til I get some and break up with her. Unless I'm ever involved in a long term relationship then I would be obligated to tell her but that day hasn't happened yet. It's too fun to be a PIMP lol

It seems like most people would rather say they are"Drug Addicts" then tell other people they like to play video games( male or female ). This would make a very interesting research.

i don't know how id be able to hide the fact that i love videogames to a new girl... i mean, if she doesnt see my huge stash of videogames in my room, than shes just retarded, and if she doesnt see my room at all, than shes probably seen my video game shirts that i often wear....ive had the same gf since ive had this boat load of games, though, so im not sure how id react to another gf....ive kinda turned into the "if you dont like what i do, go fuck yourself" kinda person....lifes too short not to have fun and enjoy it....but i do understand the "not knowing how to break it to them" thing, 'cause gaming has always been classified as dorky...but lets face it, gaming is so popular now, that people who don't play video games should be considered dorks....

Right before I tell a girl that I love Video Games, I slap the Sh*t out of her. That way she is still focused on the fact that I could be a wife beater therefore the fact that I like games is completely acceptable as long as I promise to stop hitting her and tell her I only did it because i love her so much.

It is a mug shot, If you would like to understand it please follow the link in my sig.

My post was clearly a joke, I can not even believe that the two of you are taking it seriously.

I caught that, but regardless, guys hitting girls is NOT funny to me.

My GF does all three and she's is STILL a gamer

I understood it to be a joke. I also understood it to be a poor one. Executing such gags is a tricky business. Failing that certainly doesn't lend casual viewers' sympathy to your sig's cause.

Of course, if Dead Zone were more representative of the dating prospects out there, then being a gamer needn't be a secret to ponder how to reveal. Rare at best in my generation. Count yourself lucky, you whippersnappers.

Just ask her if she wants to play with your joy stick works everytime.

ISeriously though is this still an issue. There are so many gaming consoles in homes these days I'm betting that more people play games than don't
I am sorry if I offended you with my dark humor.

Edit: Please follow the link though :D
Accepted. See, when I mentioned the serial killer analogy, I kept it entirely hypothetical and non-incriminating. It's those little slips of the tongue that can bring a glorious career crashing down.

There is a very common pattern among men in their late tenties and early thirties of giving up gaming during those years when they are both pursuing a career and a serious relationship. Often the drought is only relived by the purchase of a console for the kids, with stuff like GTA kept in a secret stash with the DVDs the kids also aren't allowed to watch.

well... i look in the mirror and say you like video games and then when i go out and talk to people and i admit i'm a girl who likes no... it's not really likes... it's absolutly loves video games... well i'd say about 50% of the female population (on average) refuses to associate w/ me ... which is just fine w/ me being as if they are that critical i don't want anything to do w/ them anyway :) and of course guys like it, specially my husband.

I dunno about that I got married at 20 and my career encourages gaming. On those long TDYs its good to have a diversion to keep me from missing home and the wife and kids. I don't know how I would have survived Baghdad this summer without my trusty game cube

How do you explain to girls that you play video games?

Simple... You don't.

If the day ever comes where she has to see your game center or sees you in a game store then you tell her. Otherwise tell her you go to clubs or something that she thinks is cool.

After all this talk of gaming as a secretive habit I begin to picture family and friends springing interventions on the unsuspecting gamers. Later, they find themselves in meeting rooms, nursing a cup of bad coffee and a handful of cheap cookies until they muster the courage to stand and say, "Hello, my name is John and I'm a video gamer." Let the healing begin.

A month later, he is presented with a chip for staying away from games an entire month. He holds up the chip with feigned pride while thinking to himself, "Nine more of these and I'll be able to get my weapon upgraded. Then you'll all pay."

Oh, I was cured, all right...

That career choice is the key. Military training and planning has become extremely simulation oriented. There are a huge range of activities the modern soldier may be required to perform that are only possible in genuine war or elaborate simulation. Even relatively conventional functions are being heavily gamed to build team skills before conducting expensive live exercises. After all, Full Spectrum Warrior started life as a DoD contract after they found they weren't covering some important skill areas with Quake mods.

Gaming skills can apply to many civilian careers but the stigma remains if you are seen as playing war game but are unlikely to be summoned to participate in actual war. Too bad. One surgeon has been on a campaign to get more of his colleagues to take up gaming. He believes his studies show a greater performance level among surgeons who spend at least three hours a week playing video games.
