How long do original-microsoft headsets last?

My cousin has been constantly using my original Microsoft headset, and he was using it in a rough manner (constantly adjusting mouth piece and talking at the top of his lungs). I didn't have the time to always supervise him, so I was wondering how much life is left in my headset? To me, online gaming is much more entertaining when you're communicating via voice.
 
I've had mine for three years with no problems. I know three people that have had problems but it always involved a small child or dog. I don't think yelling at the top of your lungs qualifies as abuse.
 
My first one lasted 3 years since day one when the 360 was released. The plastic broke now (last month) so I got a new one, but it still works fine, just that the "strap" that holds it on my head is broken, so I got a new one for that, but yeah, it still works great.
 
I must have some terrible luck. I stopped using the wired headsets after the fourth broke. I believe the weakspot is where the wire meets the plug - at least for me. Of course I have had three systems with RROD, one E74 error, and my latest 360 just stopped reading discs. Yet I still prefer the 360 over my PS3 or Wii?!?
 
take care of it, don't abuse it, and it'll last indefinitely.*

Mine broke were you plug it into the controller. The end on the plug came off, so I decided to take apart another headset where the speaker didn't work and I rewired the connector with my awesome soldering skills and got a new working headset lol.
 
I've had 2 for two years now. One is broke and the other isn't. Just bad luck I guess.
 
I didn't abuse mine in use, though it sat on my shelf, and occasionally items got placed on it. My first one lasted a year. My second one I've taken much better care of, and it's going on a year now, and is in much better shape.

Don't tell that to the police when they respond to a domestic violence call.
 
They are really finicky in my opinion. I went through probably 4-5 of them and they would all randomly work and not work in different ways. I would always get fed up and trade them into Game Stop, thankfully I had gotten a handful of them basically free from clearance XBL sub time bundles from Kmart. I use a Ear Force X4 now though.
 
I've been through as many headsets as 360's (7 or 8). The older style with the mute switch on the plug seemed to be superior to the newer ones, lasted a lot longer and the earpiece is definitely louder.

I switched back to an original Xbox headset with no mute, and other than having to superglue it back on to the headband every few months (you know what I'm talking about if you've had one), nothing ever goes wrong. I've had 360 headsets where they can hear me but I can't hear, where I can hear but the mic is broken, ones with heavy static, etc. They're junk.

I only use my Halo 3 Wireless Mic and Turtle Beach X41 headsets
