How long till we see rumble?

With all the legal stuff out of the way I was thinking we would hear some talk about it soon. The reason I ask is now that I have a PS3 I want at least one more controller but I don’t want to rush out and buy one if we are close to having some with rumble in them. I can wait a little bit if it means I get rumble. I guess they might need a system update to make it work and current games most likely will not have it but they might get an update too. Either way how long till we see or hear something about it?

People would probably hold off on a console purchase if they knew rumble would be added. I would guess they'll be quiet about it until the last possible moment if rumble is made standard.

Another reason to wait would be the 65nm cell. Less heat and power consumption is always good, but PS3 seems to be reliable now so maybe not a big deal, but still helpful. Main reason to get one now is if you value the almost 100% backwards compatibility. Emotion engine should be taken out of NA PS3's soon I'm sure just like Europe.

Also check that link out. For people like me without a PS3 and HDTV yet and want to use HDMI may want to wait a bit longer since supposedly Intel has released HDCP copy protection spec. For example those new Samsung 1080p TV's that just came out (which are suppose to be really good) have HDMI problems with the PS3. Signals will drop occasionally. It might be to someone's advantage like me who doesn't own either PS3 or the TV yet to simply wait and hope the HDCP problems are resolved.

There was also some rumor/spec sheet or something saying that 20GB would be dropped (already happened) and that 60GB would be standard and a new 80GB version would be made. So we may get back the 20GB version just with 60GB instead, and the 60GB version with wifi becomes 80GB. I read somewhere that the 20GB hard drive wasn't as good as the 60GB because it actually was slower in some cases. Downloadable games, etc. would load a bit slower than a 60GB version so 60GB may have an advantage besides storage over the 20GB.

That rumor spec sheet or whatever it was also said some sort of bluetooth antenna was being added to the PS3. This is suppose to help with the controller losing it's signal that some people have problems with. I don't know if any of that is true or not though.

And any sort of price drop is also worth waiting for. May or may not happen this year, but it may be worth waiting for to see if PS3 does anything to counter Halo.

Agreeing with the above poster, I think this Christmas we might see a new PS3 with rumble, the 80gb HD, etc. I have no idea what combination it will all take, however. Will the 80gb simply replace the 60gb? 20 extra gb isn't nearly enough to get most people to pay a premium (unlike the 360's 20 to 120). Will there be 2 SKUs or just 1? I tend to learn more toward one, only because it has become apparent that most gamers only want one to deal with. If this fall Sony adds rumble, 20gb of space, and say dropped the price to $500 I think we could see a big push for the PS3 from consumers. Will they do it? Eh, probably depends on how well Nintendo and MS are doing.
Is the rumble simply with the controller, ie you'd only have to buy a new controller w/ rumble?
What?

No man, you have to buy another PS3. The console itself will actually rumble as well. It's nice to sit on at that point.

;)

EDIT:

Eh, that wasn't funny.
Yes, it'd have to be a new control because the current ones don't have motors in them.

Watch, they're going to put rumble in the new PSP and not the ps3 in the future and i'm gonna find that kind of funny but sad ;)

But yeah they said "playstation products" not specifically the ps3
So... go ahead and get another troller now?
If you have a friend you want to play with, yes.

Umm, you don't need a *new* console when they add rumble.

I think by the end of the year we should see rumble in the controllers... cause the contact between Sony and immersion was worked out via the legal case. Immersion already has the solution as to how they want to implement rumble in the ps3 controllers.. so imo its just a matter of production...

A controller is $50 though. Some people will want all their controllers to have rumble. Or those who only use the one included will want rumble on that one. For some people it's a $50 savings and they may actually wait.

Yeah it's gonna be interesting to see how Sony handles this. They can't outright announce a date because then, current controller sales would just stop and retailers still have a lot of stock they need to get rid of.

What you can do is maybe just buy an extra now if you really need it, then ebay that sucker the day they announce the updated version. Or just wait because that seems like a lot of trouble and the value of the current sixaxis will plummet once the new version hits.

I really wish Sony would offer some kind of trade in program. That way, early adopters like all of us won't be as burned and Sony can gut the old controllers and reuse the parts. See win-win-win.

if i end up piccking up a ps3 before then (which i might actually do today) ill buy an extra controller at target, since they have a 90 day return policy.

Why are people assuming there's going to be rumble? IMO rumble is pretty silly. It's okay for some action games, but I don't miss it if it's not there (and frequently turn it off).

Now force feedback would be cool, but rumble? Eh.

Only games I can recall off hand actually using it where it added to the experience are Metal Gear Solid 1, Drill Dozer, and Wario Ware: Twisted-and those last two it came built in to the game.
