How many Michiganders took offense to Jimmy Kimmels Comments?

MorbidAngel4Life

CAGiversary!
hes a fucking jackass who should get his facts straight about a place hes never visited. Im glad they pulled his show last night. Id rather watch Wayne Brady anyday.

And he issued an apology, but then on the show that was supposed to air last night, he blasted Detroit AGAIN! shut your fucking mouth Jimmy. AND DONT OPEN IT AGAIN!!!!

and check out his message board
http://forums.go.com/abc/forum?byThread=true&start=0&forumID=8

Its full of Anti-Detroit assholes who ALSO cant get their facts straight.

That'd help us "feel" your pain. Jimmy Kimmel is the man, but if what he said is as bad as your making it sound, then it probably was something relating to the Pistons/Lakers series.

First off, im more pissed about them yanking his show off the air than anything he's ever said.

As far as detroit burning? Well, considering how well a win goes with MSU, a bunch of happy people near abondoned buildings and cars is no better.

That's it?!? THAT'S IT?!? You're pissed off about that?!? Give me a shaq-fuing break!

That's nothing to get upset about, honestly.

yeah if all he said was burning cars, I really dont see the point. I get crap all the time about being a philly fan, especially cause I live in pittsburgh. Ignore it and root for your team, thats all u gotta do

Yea, if you're a Kimmel fan.. that shouldn't even faze you. I mean really, that's not "blasting Detroit". If he said Detroit is slum from corner to corner (as it seems to be every time I'm there).. that I could understand getting your panties in a bunch about.

Surely that can't be the worst public comment made about the city of Detroit that day.

Beyond that, who cares what the guy from Win Ben Stein's Money said?

Yeah, I don't really see what's so offensive about what he said. Unless you happen to be Robocop, in which case I understand why you wouldn't like the idea of riots on your streets.

Too funny:
"The Wayne Brady Show" was shown in place of "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

i Love the wonderful lack of free speech lately...

I bet he would be really pissed

but he should watch his mouth, cause thats a touchy subject in detroit abuot the riots. the newscasters on WXYZ talked to a lot of people on air, and they all said that he was out of line. even some guy from NY said hed be pissed if he said something about his hometown.

dude its tv, get over it, u gotta look from outside the box. How much smack have you talked on other fans, thats all it was and if you dont talk smack on other towns then there is something wrong with u

To qoute Kentucky fried movie:
Dr. Klahn: The CIA thinks they can infiltrate the Mountain of Dr. Klahn!
CIA Agent: You can't scare me, you slant-eyed yellow bastard.
Dr. Klahn: Take him to... Detroit!
CIA Agent: No! No, not Detroit! No! No, please! Anything but that! No! No!

i dont really talk smack. the only place i diss is Colorado cause of the infamous Draper hit. how can you not hate that? he destroyed Drapers face!!!!! so i dont count that as smack talking. i count it as HATRED of their team.

It's not worth getting worked up about.....

A lot of people made a huge deal about what John Rocker said about NYC (my hometown), and that was much, much, much worse. But I wasn't personally offended. What do I care what he thinks?

Jimmy is a comedian, not a news reporter. He says things to get a laugh. It's not like he's the mayor of Los Angeles.

That's it. It's time to cull the weak.
Let's bring them all out and set them lose on the streets. If they want to run the name of Detroit into the ground, we'll oblige them. We'll show them that Detroit really is "Where the weak are killed and eaten".

I loved in the article te person that said, "We've won an WNBA championship.", basically saying that if we didn't riot then, why would we riot if the Pistons win.

Uhh...cause it's the WNBA!!

All I know is, after this stink being made, if even one window is broken or a single car is overturned in Detroit after a win everyone owes Jimmy Kimmel an apology. There can't be any rioting now.

He's a comedian. He's got his own politically incorrect show. He made Crank Yankers. He was co-host of the freakin man-show.

He's already made fun of half of the world in that respect (females), why should one damn near barren city matter?

And i am sorry for not sticking up for Detroit, but until it gets its remodling done for the Super Bowl, it'll always be that scary place where you can hear gunshots in the background

...puts rock and jack down...

Maybe people from Detroit should just learn to grow thicker skin.

I'm from Gary, Indiana - a double whammy realy,

for one Indiana is constantly being made fun of as a hick state,

two the crime in Gary is the butt of many, many jokes

We just learn to live with it here

Besides - if everybody was nice to everybody, comedy wouldn't exist. If you don't like what he said change the station, or better yet, turn the T.V. off

I don't mind making fun of Detroit for the sake of comedy. It's when morons actually begin believing it. I studied at a university in the center of the city. I walked around that campus at almost every time of day and night. I've driven down gratiot and woodward through the city in the dead of night.

Never once was I in any real danger. Not once. Yes, some of the city looks unpleasant and run down. There are places in the suburbs that have higher crime rates. Did you know that more violent crime takes place in the city limits of a few of Detroit's suburbs than does in the New Center and Cultural Center?

Detroit has many, many issues. Unfortunately, media perception is the greatest of them. So long as every thinks Detroit is this evil, dangerous place, nothing will change. Oh well, let the cowards stay out of the city... it keeps the clubs, sporting events and such emptier and cheaper, and cuts down on traffic.

Jimmy was very wrong. Win or lose fires will be lit, it doesn't matter.

Slapping paint on a piece of shit still makes it a piece of shit. The Superbowl is going to cause the NFL great embarrassment.

Now THAT you could take issue with.

Yep, because no one ever gets killed in any other towns in Southeastern Michigan... only in Detroit.
Bah.

my brother was a victim of a drive by(still has the bullet in his neck) but it was about 20 years ago, so thats not saying anything about today. I was born and raised in detroit, and i didnt have one problem down there, and i lived there for about 8-9 years before moving.

Honestly, who cares what a person says? When someone kicks you in the nuts or hits you in the head with a rock then you should care.

Sticks and stones....

Its just the fact that he made a comment ouyt of line when he didnt know what he was talking about, didnt have his facts straight, has never been to the city, and believes the media about how bad of a place it is. its not that bad of a place to go really. and we have some of the best sports fans in the world. the only time we really boo is when we play Colorado and whenever old Sergei has the puck in a Mighty Ducks game. at least in hockey.

and a lot of people watch his show, and a lot of people look up to him, and they might start believing what he says about detroit, that its a bad place.

People care because right now people are trying to mend the tattered image of a once glorious city. Detroit has 3 major problems that have sprung from it's history.

1. There is land in the city that is so toxic that if they want to build anything there, they'll have to cap it off with cement and build everything on top of a huge cement pad.

2. Racism. The suburban flight really hurt the city, and most of that was racially motivated. The fact that Detroit had a thief for a mayor for a long, long time (making a bad problem even worse) didn't help matters either...

3. There are a glut of unqualified workers in the Detroit area, many of which don't value education. This wasn't a problem when the Big 3 needed people en-mass, but as things became more automated, people lost thier jobs, and many of them were unskilled and uneducated. Thanks to the alure of the easy money to be made working on the line, they put no value on education, and that trait was picked up by thier children as well.

You're talking about that walking peice of shit Coleman Young, right?

ok, seriously, it was a joke. As a society people have become so over-sensitive to everything. That was the problem with the whole PC craze. Everything became offensive to someone. Jimmy Kimmel is a comedian and he meant no harm in his comment. He was just trying to be funny while they had him on air. I live in Michigan, I thought it was amusing. Why do people have to get so bent out of shape over a joke?
Oh well, let the cowards stay out of the city... it keeps the clubs, sporting events and such emptier and cheaper, and cuts down on traffic.
I dont know how much tounge was in check right htere, but thats exactly what detroit doesnt need. It needs people to go into the heart of the city and have that grow outward. My comic chain actually wants a store in downtown detroit...and i think im one of the few people that work that store (im one of the people who doesnt judge based on color, just stupidity).

Having a "Only the strongest will survive" atitude only makes the place seem like a free version of Survivor

Let me first say...F Detroit!

Seriously though...when I was younger and I vacationed in LA people used to bust on me for being in NY. I can't tell you guys not to take offense, but I wish you wouldn't. Life's too short to be upset by a comic. Jimmy's not claiming to be accurate, just trying to get a laugh at your expense. Which is how comedy often works. If you don't like it you shouldn't watch his show. You shouldn't be thankful that he gets censored and taken off the air. What the world doesn't need is more censorship.

I've personally never been to the city of detroit, just the airport on my way to Troy for business. I'm sure it's not as bad as people say, just like NY never was as bad as people used to say. Now that NY has gotten much safer, the rep has faded. I'm sure the same will happen eventually with Detroit.

Troy's nice. World headquarters to WAY too many buisness's. And they have one of those really big Targets there too.

Oh, and my dad works at the K-mart at 15 and main. Nice store considering there down the street from world headquarters.

He said nothing wrong. In fact, half the area is already burned down houses.
take a look at this and see whats happening right now.

http://www.white-history.com/hwrdet.htm

This is the city with the "Hip-Hop Mayor" who has parties at strip clubs.
Once his wife assaulted a stripper and when she went to press charges, she was killed in a driveby. The police that were investigating the murder were fired from orders by the mayor.

I concur.
I don't suggest going to the above link....
And why not? There isnt one thing in there thats not truth. Unless you mean by saying that looking at what happened to a once beautiful city will make you sick.

No, it's the racism that makes people sick.

I'm from Ann Arbor and I thought it was pretty funny stuff. I realize he's joking. In 84 when the tigers won they just about did burn the place down. I just love watching the pistons kick the lakers butt despite lucky last second shots that is

Well its all a fact. you can keep your eyes closed to it if you want. Whites moved out and blacks moved in. I wont go any more into than that out of respect for mods. Its a fact of life. Stop hiding your head and get over it.
