Does anyway know how much EB or GS sells preowned N64's for? And do most N64's work pretty well? I bught a DC from EB a while ago, but it doesn't work too well anymore, it has a tough time reading discs. I feel like just getting rid of it along with all the games I bought. Its a shame because I bought a bunch of good games, but I can't even play them. I don't want an N64 like that. Also, how much does the expansion pack go for?

It just depends on how well the N64 was taken care of, and how well it's held up. My friend bought his N64 used last summer and hasn't had a single thing wrong with it. I'd say they are probably under $20 at EB, but I not exactly sure. Some already have the Expansion Pack in them, so I'd definitely check when looking at the used systems. I haven't seen an Expansion Pack by itself for a long time, so I don't know what they go for anymore...

Alright, I'm going to stop at a mall today with an EB and a GS so I'll see whats up there. I don't think I can look at the used systems at either place because when I got my DC it was in a box and they just gave it to me. Hopefully they'll have a good deal or something.

I also can always get one off here from someone. I've already had an offer! You guys rock.

You can ask to see the N64 before you hand over the money. Look for cosmetic problems, what kind of controller (first-party or third-party) comes with it, and take a look to see if it has an expansion in it...
...why not just buy a working DC? There's more and better games on it.
Actually, the N64 had more games than the DC. As for better games...well...that's questionable. I think I prefer my N64 more than DC...mostly becuase my DC is mainly fighters, while I have more of a variety for my N64.

I've had my N64 for a many many years, best console I ever owned, and it is still running as good as the day I bought it.

Cartrige based systems just don't wear out, as long as you don't abuse them (if you blow it will corrode).

EB sells the N64 Pre-Owned for 17.99 and Gamestop usually has them for 19.99 - I just recently got one at EB - just make sure you ask to look at it before you buy it - one of the ones they had here looked like someone beat the crap out of it........

I went to the EB and GS yesterday, but they didn't have any preowned systems. I didn't think the mall stores would have them, I'll have to check a store that isn't in a mall.

What did the expansion pak do again? Didn't you need it to play Perfect Dark or something?

yes... and maybe some other games but i used it for perfect dark which was one of my favorite games ever. i wish i didnt sell my old 64 i miss it dearly :(. i may see if my local eb has a 64 but i need an expansion pack and they are so hard to find anywhere now.
The N64 doesn't have a laser to read discs so I'd imagine they'll generally hold up better than a DC.
yeah they just have pins that get dirt on them after a while.............................
psh get a dreamcast and stop using cd-r's to play backups, THEY KILL THE SYSTEM.

Donkey Kong 64 needed the Expansion Pack to function. Perfect Dark needed it just to play the single player mode! And, all the rest of the games that utilized it just had graphical face lifts using it. There were a good handful that used it.

They were $15 at EB, last year.

Probably around the same now, if they still have any left. And you'll probably have to go to the ghetto EB/GS in your area.

Buy it.

The console itself is super durable. Mines from the '96 launch and it still works like a charm. The thing that doesn't last is the controllers.
Someone just had a post about this yesterday... gamestop has n64's for 14.99 on their website

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=909055

if you dont feel like ordering it online, use their store locator to find a store near u that sells them
Oh cool, a GS near me has one in stock. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

So I guess I really do need the expansion pack, hopefully I can get one on the cheap because I reeeeally want to play Perfect Dark.

Edit - the same GS also has the expansion pack, but they want $14.99 for it. Should I just buy it for that price, is that a normal price nowadays?

if you store has a few N64s in stock, check and see if there is an expansion pack in it. at an ebgames where i live, one of the employees told me a few had them left and would let me swap my N64 for one with a pack in it. it doesn't hurt to ask.

if you want a cheap N64 or dreamcast PM me...my brother has many (he just moved and doesn't have internet yet so I would be a middle man)

I just got one a GS. It was $19.99, but it came with the RAM exp. I haven't fired it up yet, but hopefully all goes well. I also bought Perfect Dark and Shadows of the Empire for $4.99 each.

Just played a couple solo levels in PD and it works great. I love playing old systems again.
