I'm thinking about buying three Nintendo DS's. I want to sell two of them for $225 each so that I can get the third for free. I was wondering if people think there is going to be a shortage on DS's for the holiday season or not?

I doubt you will get 150% on them... This might work if you bought 5 and the 6th was free but you would have to sell them all...

Yeah, who knows....I guess you can buy them and hold them until around XMAS....I'm sure you can get your money back regardless.

Yeah, there's just too many people that have seen Christmas presents go for outrageous prices in years past (Tickle Me Elmo comes to mind), so everyone and their mother is going to be selling a DS on Ebay. I doubt you'll lose money, and you may make some. But I wouldn't count on getting more than 200 bucks at the most for each.

Anyone who pays over SRP is an idiot. Nintendo knows they have a hit on their hands. Temporary perhaps, but they know they have to move boxes while the moving is good. They'll be trying to get more units produced and delivered throughout the holiday season.

I recall when people spoke of paying a premium for the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube at the time of their respective launchs. I had the PS2 pre-ordered but found I could easily have just walked into TRU and bought one for the normal price, as a I did the following year with the Xbox and GC. I'm willing to bet I'll be able to buy a DS at retail before the year is out if I'm feeling financially confident.

I knew people who got 600+ for the ps2 when it first hit... I personally know a dude who got 984 bucks for one. The dude really paided 984 bucks for a freaking ps2

By my standards, even if they were wealthy, those purchasers were idiots who were self-indulgent or worse, overly indulgent of their kids.

Yeah, it looks like EBAY is saturated with DS preorders...however, they still are selling for $180. I may have to get one just to make some cash....I have enough credit at GameRush

Two possibilities on this one, both maybe obvious but maybe we can try to decide which is more liekly.

1. Nintendo doesn't ship enough DS units before Christmas, therefore prices reach about $200-$250 on Ebay before the holidays. This means you should hold onto your DS and try to sell later at a bit of a risk.

2. Nintendo easily matches demand for the DS, and you're lucky to get MSRP on Ebay, and actually might lose money after fees. This means sell your preorder now and get the safe $180, but risk losing out on a bigger sale later.

What is funny is they are saying that 2 million is preorder but they only have 1 million but they are still taking pre orders in japan ...... Ok

I already sold the 3 i had on preorder for 165.00 each on ebay... I might grab 2 at FYE ( i got almost 300 credit there) when FYE gets them in.

I don't think you can go wrong in buying one or two DS to resell. If you get them from Walmart the worse that happens is you have to return them. But I think you will at least get back MSRP.

I do not think that it will be a Christmas hit. Parents rather buy their kids something cheaper and probably would go more with the SP than the DS.

Look how many people on this thread alone have thought about "reselling"

Multiply that by the thousands that actually make a living on ebay and there you have it. I bet the preordre numbers are somehwat over exagerated due to resellers.

There are those that think that way. There are also those that make a lot of money and don't get to spend a lot of time with their kids and want to make it up by spending more. You always have to remember, not everyone thinks the same way. Just because we are cheap doesn't mean everyone else is.

I agree. "Rich, spoiled children" for lack of a better term, will not be getting the old fashioned GBA SP for Christmas when their friends are all getting the DS. I have to admit I don't know how this is going to play out, it could be worth it's $150 all the way through Christmas or it could shoot up to about $225 or so, but if you have the money to spare I don't think you can go wrong with buying maybe 2 DS and trying to sell them. If you don't just return them.

Who the heck in their right (or wrong mind) would pay that money for a PS2, which was a first-gen, first-rev unit.

WTF were they thinking?

And I'd love to see proof of that $984 PS2 sale.
