How to exchange an Xmas gift without a receipt?

First off, I'm not trying to scam a store or anything sinister. My parents bought me a 3DS for Xmas (awesome!), but it's not the color I want. I'd rather not ask them for a receipt because it would hurt their feelings. Is there a way/store that would allow me to exchange it for the color I want without a receipt? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, I really don't see the big deal here... they got you the right item, just tell them you would prefer a different color. If you still feel bad, just tell them that color X is better because it doesn't show scratches/fingerprints or doesn't have issues with fading as color Y does.
 
Yea I'll probably just ask for a gift receipt so I can exchange it. Unfortunately I can't play it because I don't want to open it. Ugh!
 
Can I return a game I got with no receipt? My brother in law got me a game I really don't want nor do I know where he got it. So if I go to say, target or best buy, would they just give me store credit/gift card?
