What's everyone's gameplan for where you're located? I'm in SE VA and just stocking up on essentials: water, beer, batteries for the flashlights and gameboys, that sort of thing. Last hurricane we lost power for about a day, but some places around here had it much worse.

You forgot Eskimos.

Im hoping it stays East more once it hits MA. I just put the pool floats away so they dont end up in the trees. Not too concerned.

I love it when a hurricane blows into the gulf, we usually get rain from it, which we really need. Instead this bitch is going up the east coast, so we won't get anything.

My psp, 3ds, and iPhone will all be fully charged...gun is cleaned and ready (I libe in the ghetto...people dint know how to act when power goes out) have lots of water and mre's...just gotta take the ac's out of the window and I am ready to ride this bitch out!! I am in ct right on the li sound
I live in Seaside Heights, New Jersey so ima get hit. Im going to stock up on some junk food and soda later.
Don't be surprised if everything's already gone.

I was at Target 2 hours ago and they still had a ton of water. 12 packs of 16-oz bottles for $2.79. Can't beat that.

I'm not too worried but they are really hyping it up for some reason. As if nothing else is going on in the world. I grabbed one case of the $2.79 water but I doubt we'll need it. Good idea to charge the PSP and DS, I'll definitely do that too. Otherwise I think we're good.

People in NC might be fucked though.

I live in CT.... I already cleaned my Stop & Shop out of every jug of water, and loaf of bread they had... not cause I'm worried, just to piss people off.

I went around the house and put away all the stuff that could potentially get blown around by the wind, ran the generator for a little while to make sure it was good to go, and filled up the gas cans. I'm charging all my portables now in case the power goes out since the generator can't run the entire house, so I generally don't play consoles on the big screen when it does.
Good call on charging the portables.
Charging your cell phone won't make a difference if your local cell towers are knocked out and everyone's hammering the network(s) to see if you are "ok". As a matter of fact your cell will be working harder because it's trying to get in touch with any towers that still function.

You game units will only last a few hours.
and a TSUNAMI.
Doubt it as I don't think there are any active plates off of VA. Could be wrong.

Anyways it TSUNAMI Does happen, well sucks for everyone out on the coastal cities.

I'm hoping I live just east enough where we aren't affected, but my luck, we'll get a shitload of rain. Any other work center and we'd probably get nothing, but that's one of two days next week where I'm doing carts. Yippee. >_>

I'm under a Tropical Storm watch. Good thing I didn't get a job near VA Beach recently, since they are under a Hurricane watch. Wow, some stores were busy today with people stocking up on water, batteries (stores ran out of them even...some), flashlights, TP, etc.

The entire water aisle was cleared at the Walmart I went to...hopefully find some tomorrow...as were all of the flashlights. Still plenty of batteries though.

I live in CT, and I'm not gonna lie - I'm terrified. Never been this scared of a storm in my life.

Stopped by Wal-Mart today and all of the flashlights were gone and most of the water. Thankfully I have both so it's okay for now.

I just got back from walmart I got

2x case of bottle water

2x Gallons of water

3x bag of Doritos (Spicy,Nacho)

3x Packs of brownies

6x 2liter bottles of Orange Soda

I Love orange soda Is this true mmhm I do I do I do I doooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooo.

How many people know what that line is from

Oh Kenan and Kel. So glad they're showing all the old Nick shows now, even though I don't get the channel.

For anyone who remembers back in 1999 Hurricane Floyd took the same track and it weaken rather quickly before hitting the Northeast. With that being said the new GFS/NAM computer model does not show to much hope for a more eastern track.

I was thinking more along the lines of my DS Lite and my GBASP - I hope my cell phone runs out of juice so people will leave me alone.

I guess I shouldn't be at the Jersey shore this weekend as planned.... hmm... I'm only inland from NYC by about 12 miles (a little southwest). I think I'm screwed either way but I'm thinking I should be at the beach house in case shit gets crazy (like boarding up windows). I don't know what to do!

Part of me thinks this is another example of media hype for something that won't turn out to be that bad like when they constantly predict 12" of snow in the winter and we get a third of that.

I'm pretty frightened myself. I just moved to Manchester and I'm supposed to work till 11pm Saturday in Wallingford, and supposedly our governor is going to close highways at midnight, so I have to haul ass coming home Saturday and hope work lets me leave early. I'm also supposed to work Sunday but obviously that's not happening.

We've seen highwinds of near 50mph in CT over the last few years with winter weather and gusts during spring. Last years winter was horrid and we made thru it. It's just a matter of how high the wind hits in CT and if you live on the coast or near a river. From what I read/heard there will be flooding, but how bad no one really seems to know at this point. The minimum amount of rain seems to be 4 inchs, all the way up to 10 inches.

I bough a lot of water, flashlights, bread and peanut butter and of course junk food. I'm expecting to be out of power for a week, and anything less then that I'll be happy. Luckily next week the weather is below 80 degrees everyday so the need for AC/Central Air will be less. It will just suck having everything in the fridge go bad and not being able to go online/play games - hopefully thats the worst of it!

So I decided to go to walmart last night at 1am... PERFECT timing!

No one in the store except the weirdo over night employees.

I did stock up on water and gatorade and a few items that I need to resupply anyways. Gonna make some home made chili this weekend! :)

So yeah... NOAA says a 10% or less chance of New England getting hurricane-force winds. And even then, they just updated, it seems, (been tracking throughout the day), to say that only CT and RI have a chance of hurricane-force winds at all. Meanwhile the local news is hyping it up as a Category 2. LOL. New England gets winds like this almost every year so I have no idea why everyone is panicking around here. NOAA has downgraded this quite a bit since even earlier today.

Just kinda pisses me off because we do our food shopping on the weekends and everything non-perishable is going to be picked clean at all the stores even though there is no need for it.

Yeah this storm has definitely gotten my nerves on edge, I am in Bridgeport and I am about 2 miles from the sound so the idea of flooding scares the holy hell out of me. I have stocked up on water, gatorade and other non perishables, now I am just hoping for the best. One thing I saw earlier today as far as your fridge goes is crank the fridge and freezer to max settings starting now that way if/when the power goes out it'll buy you a little more time before the food spoils.

I just want to wish all my fellow CAG's here in the northeast and along mid atlantic a safe weekend...see you all in about a week when our power and internet comes back and we can trade stories!!!
now this thread will be epic if we get this AND another earthquake!
I plan on getting eaten by a bear when the hurricane strikes.
Not to say that they're wrong in this case, but NOAA doesn't always use the best models when doing their predictions.
Then who, pray tell, should I listen to instead? The local news who was claiming this morning we were getting a Category 2?

Who the fuck knows..... they don't give a shit....all they want is their ratings to go thru the roof. I barely watch news coverages like this anymore because they usually are wrong every freaking year and still after decades of studying this shit, they still can't get the damn computers to tell where it's going....instead we are given 300 "possible" paths. All I know is that's it's gonna be cloudy , windy and rainy. fuck you weather people!

You want the information without all the hype bullshit..just go directly to http://www.weather.gov/
make sure you have your cell phone out so you can call someone and give them the play by play ;)
God damn it you bastards beat me to it.

I live just outside NYC. I may regret it but I'm not doing a goddamn thing. I mean I have about 5 or 6 gallons of water in my basement and a couple of cases of Gatorade so I think I'll be all set. They keep downgrading this thing though so I am really skeptical that it will be as bad as they keep saying. Last night it was a Category 3, now it is a Category 2 and I just read that by the time it gets to us it might be a Category 1 or a tropical storm. Whatever. My weekend is already ruined.

Stopped by the local grocery to get some water after work and the shelves were bone dry, fuck!

Luckily the beer was one aisle over. :D

Being a Meteorologist on TV is a joke of a career. Seriously...do you really need a fucking degree to wave you hands , push a few buttons on that power point clicker to tell people about the weather? Come on, the job is fucking easy...all they do is go on the net, look up shit already posted and then play the viewers at home. They don't know what the fuck is going on either...that's why all the news channel reports are different.

The other day NBC4 had their Meteorologist explain to the viewers using the weather map where the fuck that earthquake originated from....WTF?!?!

When I entered walmart at 1am this morning I was greeted by a giant beer display...

Serious. Most of my meteorologist friends seem to like Penn State's e-Wall (I know quite a few, the field is related to what I do). I can't tell you how many times I walked into the office and said something I saw on NOAA and the snobby scientists jaws came out.

Either way, you just have to keep in mind that they are just models based on previous data, so nothing is going to be spot on when predicting the weather.

You should be okay up in Manchester. I'm in the Waterbury area so I'll probably get hit harder.

I was just at the Stew Leonard's on the Berlin Turnpike and they had shit-ton of water so if you're in CT looking for some, that's the place to go.
