I just hooked up my dreamcast again, and I am having more fun with games than I've had in a while. For the last couple hours all I have been playing is Samba de Amigo and Project Justice. It is a shame it had to die so soon.

Thats one of the games I dont have surprisingly.

And for people who like Project Justice

 YOU JUST SET IT FACE DOWN ON A TABLE?!?!

I have a mint copy too. :p

Yes, the DC rocks! BTW, I recently heard someone refer to the XBOX as the DC2. It has...
1) A simular controller layout
2) 4 controller ports
3) Dead or Alive 3 and Ultimate (2 was on the DC)
4) House of the Dead 3 (HotD2 was on DC, and it played TONS better than the HotD2 "port" for the XBOX).
5) Project Gotham Racing (Metropolis Street Racer was the ancestor for PGR)
6) Shenmue 2 (Shenmue 1 & 2 were on DC, even thou Shenmue 2 was not released in US for DC).
7) Crazy Taxi 3 (CT and CT2 was on DC).
8) Marvel vs Capcom 2 (MvC & MvC2 were on DC).
9) Soul Calibur II (SC was on DC).
10) XBOX online play (DC had online play via Broadband modem).
11) XBOX has better graphics than PS2 (DC had better graphics than PS)...hehe.

There are probably more, but, I can't think of them right now...

Dont worry, the table is clean, its my steel battalion table so it only comes out when I feel like playing it. The best part is I bought it new from FYE for $20 back in the day.

I play Grandia II and Street Fighter Alpha 3 frequently. I am thinking of buying more games, can anyone reccomend some good DC games to purchase? By the way, is Sonic Shuffle any good? I liked Mario Party back on the N64 so I was wondering if this was worth $10.

Don't forget, both do not have a reset button. And both have a Windows OS.

Sonic Shuffle was a horrible game. Even though it was made by the same people who made Mario Party it plays nothing alike, to me anyways. The mini games are boring and it really doesn't have the same multiplayer feel of the MP games.

Agreed. Horrible game, do not buy unless you are a freakish sonic fan.

Okay, finally picked up a DC again (I missed my old one) and I had a question.

What disc do I need to try to find so I can play imports. I really want to play Shenmue II but not enough to buy an Xbox.

thanks!

Its called like DC-X, or something like that.

You can also use a Gameshark or Codebreaker IIRC to play imports. Then you can get Fire Pro D, the best wrestling game ever made for ANY system

What I don't get is that if there are so many people that love the DC.... why did it die? Was the piracy just that bad?
I lvoe the dc for emulator purposes :) lol.... shhh no one heard that.
you and me both, you and me both. ummm, im going to go look over there *RUNS AWAY*

but really i still have over 70 licenced DC games.

ZForce, I just picked up a Gameshark CDX for the DC. Can you provide any insight on how to play imports with it?

Thanks..

Dont tell anyone I told you... but look for a boot loader to burn onto a disk.

I doubt SEGA will care at this point...

www.google.com = Dreamcast boot loader ISO

If DC hadn't died so soon then the system and games would likely still be selling for much higher prices and many, many less gamers would have gotten a chance to try it out. You can thank the PS2 juggernaut hype machine and a generation of Playstation fanboys for the early death, but system death does bring about lower prices that we all can appreciate.

You can just download an image of the Utopia Boot Disk. Thats what I did to play an import version of Shenmue 2 and Guilty Gear X.

I attribute DC's death to overwhelming PS2 hype and EA's refusal to make games for it. Recently dug mine out as well to play some games.

I too have emulated a few things here & there. Finally procured a copy of DC's Half-Life– was my gaming holy grail for quite some time.

I have just begun to appreciate the DC's greatness; I bought a used one many months ago for only $10 and also picked up Shenmue along with it and haven't really tried it out until recently. Awesome, still holds up extremely well in comparison to the other consoles. Just found a complete (though a bit beat up) copy of Soul Calibur so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Actually SEGA did pretty good, dreamcast made alot of impact during launch, games were Awsome this time around. they did just about everything rite. But people can't forgive the saturn, and sony fanboys was huge. They didn't drop out because they fail, it was because the company went bankrupt... they drop out of the console business before everything was gone.. to become a 3rd party developer & publisher.

Sega did mention they would return someday to the console market.
So hopfully I'm alive to see that.

I was surprize to see Sony 1st in the console market, taking down the Sega & Nintendo Gaint. and I fear Nintendo will be losing there handheld market really soon.

It sold well early on but faded fast. It never really caught on beyond the hardcore audience which cannot sustain a mainstream platform. Don't be fooled by the love expressed here. A site like this is very atypical compared tot he general public.

The success of new machines cannot be measured until well into their existence unless they are dismal from day one. For compnies like the current console makes the first 10 million units is easy. After that you really have to sell it.

I was just doing my DC games on my IGN collection. I think that the DC might have the best average for total reviewed games. One of the few systems where there was more good games than shovelware.

the game is VERY funn, but the mini games are short and the loading times are usually longer than the mini games, so it get boring.

I still play my Dreamcast as much as my Xbox and definitely more than the PS2. I can't even begin to count how many hours I've played Soul Calibur, Bangai-O, and Skies of Arcadia.
