I am in shock, I had a good experience at EB.

So i called, they confirmed they had 1080 avalanche for $10, and it was actually a new copy, not an opened display one.
I traded in Unreal Championship, Tetris Worlds/Clone Wars, Kill Bill vol. 1(I didn't like it that much) and SMB DX. (My GBA NES classics one is a better version)

They said i could get $20 towards halo 2 for the two xbox games (That I paid about $10 for) and got $14 for the rest. The employees were even friendly and when asked about a few xbox titles, they actually said that some were not good games and not to buy them!

So I walked in expecting to have barely enough credit for the $10 1080, but I got $24 towards halo 2 and 1080 avalanche.. maybe EB isn't so bad.
 
EB is not the evil empire it's made out to be. It's just that people who have bad experiences will tend to be more vocal about said experiences. Whereas folks who have no problems have no reason to post about it.

Hrm, that last part sounds like a slam on you, but it's not meant that way.

I've never had a problem at EB. The guy who runs my local EB is awesome. I even play with him on XBox Live sometimes. If I ever buy a game and it's the same price everywhere, I always go there.
 
there are just as many horror stories from BB and CC and gamestop. It just seems that EB gets the brunt of all the venom spewed from the message boards. Ive had both good and bad experiences at most of the major retailers. The only one I no longer shop at is Circuit City as they are assholes in my city. Everyone else is pretty good around here.
 
EB in my area is great, cool guys who know there stuff and aren't looking to rip people off. Gamestops here are mostly full of jerks who try and get you to reserve something every time you walk in the door or don't want to help you it reminds me of a city record store where the people working think they're too cool to help you find something they don't like. As for CC i like them but there shelves leave much to be desired here as it is a complete jumble of games in no obvious order. (btw i am in a Philadelphia suburb)

Does that happen to be the Gamestop in the Willow Grove Mall? Every time I go in there it seems like all they mention is pre-orders and signing up for Game Informer.
 
It's all in the employees and maybe more important the manager. The name on the door might be the same, but if you get a couple of bad apples working, even the same store could have wildly varying levels of customer satisfaction.

My biggest pleasant surprise lately was at Best Buy. I needed a lens cleaner for my PS2. I picked up one of the $20 ones by the home theater stuff, and asked a clerk if this would be ok for a PS2. He says actually we have one specifically designed for that, and shows me a $15 one that says "PlayStation" on it. Ok, good enough. But a little bit later while I was browsing in another section, he comes up to me with another cleaning thing that even comes with a disc cleaner, and only costs $10. Very nice work, he easily could have just said "yeah just get that $20 thing you already have in your hand".
 
The guys who work at my local EB are pretty cool. I've never had a bad experience dealing with them. My only problem with EB is that shelf space in their store (at least the one closest to me) is about 85-90% devoted to previously owned games. I prefer new copies, especially when the difference in price is $5, tops, so I hate when there's one tiny little area of new copies and hundreds of previously owned games all over the rest of the shelves.
 
Thats just the business. Those preowned games make the stores a lot more money than the new ones do. So its just simple economics. All stores who sell new and used would rather you buy the used one as there is a much larger profit margin on those. New games aren't marked up that much. Like when BB and CC have those really cheap sales (target too) , they are losing money on those to just try to get you in the store. My EB has 1 whole long wall for PS2 games. About 60% of it is for used games. So their new section is still pretty big. Its just different from store to store as to how they lay it out.
 
My local EB is pretty good. A friend of mine that graduated from my high school a few years ago works there, so I actually have a good time going there. He does not give me a discount though. :x
