You think having two versions will just confuse parents? How about it confusing consumers in general. They'll think the cheaper one will be "good enough" and they'll be "good to go." Trust me, take this from someone who works in retail.
MS is really going to bury themselves before the 360 really has a chance in the market. Having multiple versions like this is just

ed up plain and simple. You don't see Nintendo releasing multiple versions of the same system that cheaper versions are crippled like the 360 is. This is just proof that perhaps Microsoft just doesn't understand the gaming market and should of never gotten involved to begin with (and this is coming from a XBox owner mind you).
Actually, CheapyD put forth an idea in another thread which I'm sure is spot-on. The $300 version was made for Wal-Mart pure and simple. That way they can go "See Wally World the system is really just $300. Only hardcore gamers (i.e. the people Wal-Mart doesn't give a shit about any way) will buy the expensive version with all that stuff you don't really need." You think any one at corporate Wal-Mart knows or cares about the hard drive? All they give a shit about is that they can sell something for $100 cheaper. They will care on Dec 26 when 10s of thousands of them are returned, but that is another story. Anybody that knows what the hell they are buying will not even consider that POS "core system". The average consumer will go "300 for the system plus 40 for a memory card-hey that means I've saving $60. I mean I don't really NEED a wireless controller. Look at all those morons overpaying for stuff they don't need." The sad truth is, people that actually know anything about games, game systems or the industry in general are in the vast minority now. How many copies does madden sell every year? More than Beyond Good and Evil, Ico, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Silent Storm, and a couple dozen more great games combined. The industry has been turned over to the lowest common denominator, and they will buy whatever is cheapest. And Nintendo hasn't had a

ing clue about the gaming market since the

ing SNES. I don't like MS's marketing ploys of late, but it's better than Sony's "

you, you'll buy our shit no matter what we put out, when we put it out or how much we charge" or Nintendo's "HD output, surround sound and online play? No one actually uses that." The best game put out exclusively for the Gamecube was Animal Crossing. Good game, but that's the best they could do for an entire cycle? Sad. They should have quit making consoles long ago, and just stuck to games. Maybe if they had, the ones in this generation might have been worth playing. And for the record, they are going to have 3 versions of the GBA plus the DS on sale for the holidays. Nope they never put out multiple versions of the same thing... MS will win this cycle, period. Not because they have the best product, because they don't, but because apparently they are the only ones who don't have their heads shoved entirely up their asses.
