I should be happy but I can't help but feel guilty everyone :( Well about 3 or 4 days ago my 360 got the RROD for the second time. I called MS and a coffin was sent. I did the towel trick and got my 360 working for 2 days and it seemed fine. Well tonight I just went to my local GameStop where some really great employees were working and I traded in my RROD console. I completely lied and told them everything worked great and because they were so busy they didn't even test the system out. Basically with trading in my console, 4 PS3 games, and a $50 store credit I had previously, I walked out the door with a perfectly new 360 Pro for $100.

I guess that this is my way of confession, but I was also wondering, could I get in trouble for something like this? I mean is this a form of return fraud or anything? I feel completely sick to my stomach just thinking of some excited kid opening up my console on Xmas day only to get the RROD. Can anyone console me and has anybody else done this? Sigh...

This is all going to end badly.
Why would you feel bad?
Cause I knowingly sold a bad console back to EB. I mean they will test it and send it back to MS if it does RROD on them won't they??

so what who cares, it should still be covered by microsoft's warranty if it RRODs, so all is well, that is of course unless you already gave ms the serial number and now someone else is gonna do the same, maybe they'll be denied, poor poor eleventeen year old, he never saw it coming, you should be ashamed of your self, ha ha ha.

$100, plus 4 $60 games and $50 in store credit because you didn't have the patience to live without a 360 for 3 weeks?

You're a liar and a fool.
In what way?
Every time I've traded in stuff at Gamestop I had to show my ID and they take down all my info and I sign the receipt, if you did the same then it may come back to haunt you.

they should've tested it when they took it in. If they didn't, the employee that took it in will be blamed.

YESSSS!! not trying to find pleasure in this but this is hilarious in so many ways.

Well I did give them the serial number. Can I cancel it or something?

You are going to gamers hell:hot:

No it wasn't that at all. I have been looking to upgrade to a Pro for a while now and I only had the Core. I could've lived without out since I have a PS3 and Wii, but I thought since it was working again, then it should be fine.

agreed. Total waste of money IMO.

i wouldn't know, my 360s been running strong since i got it, and if it does RROD, i'll make sure and actually send the box out and get it fixed... fo free, instead of wasting even more money on another one.
Every time I've traded in stuff at Gamestop I had to show my ID and they take down all my info and I sign the receipt, if you did the same then it may come back to haunt you.
Yes they did take down my info which is why I think I could get in some sort of trouble here. More than anything I feel just awful and I am riddled with guilt. I usually don't shop at EB because it's not a favorite store of mine anyways, but still.

You lost a lot with the trade in, but otherwise I think whoever buys it will just return it to GS as defective.

Glad I don't buy used consoles
they should've tested it when they took it in. If they didn't, the employee that took it in will be blamed.
True, but that's another reason I feel terrible is because the guy was really nice and I could tell he really liked his job.
You lost a lot with the trade in, but otherwise I think whoever buys it will just return it to GS as defective.

Well yea I guess they could. Dont they have a 30 day warranty on used systems and such? I mean I would hate to be screwing over some innocent kid who only wants to play games.
I'm sure theres a more cost effective way to upgrade to a premium than giving up $100, $50 store credit, and 4 ps3 games.
To be honest, it made sense at the time. The games I traded in, I barely played. They are in practically new condition and I figured that since I don't enjoy them, maybe someone else can.
7 days I think, but if it has RROD if he's smart he'll have it exchanged the same day/next day.
Well I don't know if it will. I tested it out before I brought it in (to see if a game was in there) and it started up like normal, with no problems.
Well I don't know if it will. I tested it out before I brought it in (to see if a game was in there) and it started up like normal, with no problems.
Well let me rephrase what I said, smart people don't buy used 360's :p

shame on you, those poor kids are never going to see it coming, playing lego star wars or cars, and then BAM! RROD, then the store wont take it back and MS will say no, then the little kids will cry their eyes out and their parents will forever curse the SOB that traded in that hunk of crap in the first place. nice work, probably gonna get purchased for some orphans or something too.
Well let me rephrase what I said, smart people don't buy used 360's :p
Haha yea I know but I still can't shake this guilty feeling I have. I mean if the used systems don't sell, do they donate them or anything? I mean the 360 I had was barely used as well and was bought back in August or around there, so when I got the RROD, I was really surpised since it was well ventilated and not played often.

Is there a way to cancel my RROD repair request from MS?

In all honesty man, it's keeping me up tonight thinking about just that. Sure it seems funny to you, but to me it's not a joke. I just hope that it works for a few days and then it RROD's and they can exchange it.
You might be totally effed, kinda like those poor little orphans.

Well, if you really felt guilty about this wouldn't you be calling up the Gamestop you traded it into and telling them about it rather than just posting a thread on here?

Dude, stop being such a fucking puss about this...what you did was stupid, but i'm sure anyone of us would have done the same exact thing if we felt that we had to.

So go clean your running wittle nose up and stop fussing about this...or go back to the store and tell them what you did.

Be a man stop whining about a fucking Xbox.
Well, if you really felt guilty about this wouldn't you be calling up the Gamestop you traded it into and telling them about it rather than just posting a thread on here?
The reason is I don't know if I can get in any trouble for this. If I can then I should keep my trap shut, right?

well this post has only been up for a half an hour and the responses are great, so yeah it's pretty damn entertaining.

Thanks for the advice? No offense, but I have a legitimate question/concern here.
The reason is I don't know if I can get in any trouble for this. If I can then I should keep my trap shut, right?
That's the point. If you're TRULY feeling guilty for your actions you'd be willing to accept the consequences of said actions.
The reason is I don't know if I can get in any trouble for this. If I can then I should keep my trap shut, right?
if you're more worried about getting in trouble than you are about the orphans crying, then its not guilt, its anxiety, you're afraid of getting caught, don't worry it always happens the first time, that'll go away, now you should try to steal something, the rush from that is way better.
That's the point. If you're TRULY feeling guilty for your actions you'd be willing to accept the consequences of said actions.
Maybe, depending on the consequences. If I am looking at something ridiculous like jail time, then I'll just play dumb. If they want me to pay the difference or something, then I'll do that.

Just forget about it OP, nothing bad will happen so it's not worth getting excited over it. I'm sure lots of people trade in broken systems.

So you're willing to accept the consequences as long as their not too harsh?

You're not feeling guilty at all, you're just worried about getting caught, that's all.

You are a horrible Horrible person

I am coming to your house to personally kick you in the nuts, be ready at your door with your pants down and a bottle of neosporin, Your mother may be present as witness for legal reasons, there will be photographic evidence and i shall sign autographs afterwards, then we shall all go out to dinner at chuck E Cheeses and you will get no pizza or any money for tokens, you shall watch me play whack a mole and Pinball while i Hit on your mother. Be prepared...the reckoning is coming.

Thank you for at least providing some intelligent feedback. You know, I'm positive I'm not the only one who has traded in a broken system but I know what I did was wrong. I think I'll call them tomorrow and own up to it and just see what they say. The only reason I am posting on here is because I wanted to see if they had a policy against that or anything. It's always better to ask first, but maybe not on here.

I wouldn't call if I were you, not sure what they'll do or if they'll care, but it may just cause a headache if you do. Just enjoy your new 360.
So you're willing to accept the consequences as long as their not too harsh?

Sure I am. I'm both guilty and worried about getting caught. I never said I was a mastermind criminal, nor a crimial in the first place. But I've decided to own up to it no matter what I have to do.
I wouldn't call if I were you, not sure what they'll do or if they'll care, but it may just cause a headache if you just. Just enjoy your new 360.
Hmm well this is my dilema unfortunately. If I call and let them know, will they charge me back for it or something weird? I just have no idea!

They may make you come back, I've never heard of anyone admitting to trading in a broken console before.

As I said, don't worry about it. They aren't going to do anything besides put it up for sale and eventually get it back as defective. GS can afford to lose the money.
