A week ago I won a copy of Half Life 2 on ebay for $25. The seller said the key was unused but when I got the game I found out that the key had infact been used which left me with a stack of coasters. I contacted the Seller and he was more then happy to refund all my money, he told me to just throw the game out. I was happy to get my money back but I was disappointed that I still didn't have a copy of Half Life 2.

Just as I was about to throw the game out one of my friends found the request form to have a key reactivated. Since it was a legit retail version I printed out the form put my CD Key in a envelope and slapped a $0.37 stamp on it. There was a 50/50 shot that the key would be reactivated or it would turn out to be a banned account. And judging on how the guy told me to just throw it out I was leaning towards it being a banned account.

Well today I got a email back from Valve saying that they have reset the key and its fully up and running.

So in the end my copy of Half Life 2 just cost me a simple $0.37.

That is pretty sheisty in my opinion. but i guess its a case where the seller was ignorant.

Or he was selling reused keys in the first place, which means it's his fault for dealing illegally. I know I wouldn't feel bad if an eBayer shafted me and I lost out on my deal. It doesn't matter that the money was refunded. One should not be selling bad product.

I think what the OP did was ok. He never lied to the seller. Its a good to see someone profit off an ebay scammer for once

nice! reminds of the time I bought an xbox live 1 year starter kit from a pawn shop. The code had been scratched, so I figured it had been used.

I told them $5, since it had the headset and Tetris Worlds. Went home, tried the code for the hell of it, and it worked!

Here is our emails back and forth:

Me:
Got the Game in today, Thanks for the fast shipping. But the bad
news when I went on to Steam it said that the Key is already in use.
Wanted to check and see if you might still have it registered and
didn't un-register it.

eBay Seller:
Hello! I am a sorry this problem.
I will full refnd(Include S/H) your payment by paypal.
And you don't need it to return. Just throw away. Or If you can play except online game,Please play game.

I apologize for this.

I did leave the guy positive feedback since he was nice about it. I could have been a jerk and left negitive.

Based on how he replyed I really questioned how legit the copy was to start.

sounds like he didnt know. If he were doing something shady, why refund anything?

In fact, his reply doesnt even sound like something from a native English speaker. Maybe WoW has raised my detection of it.

There's always the chance he didn't know. For example, if I stumbled on it (say I picked it up in a lot or clearanced for a buck or two) I would have no idea to check that out since I'm not a pc gamer.

You know the situation better than I do, but it sounds like the seller accidentally sent you a game he thought worked, and you later found out still did, and he got nothing.
