I got a serious question. (Perfect circle scratch)

So I have been playing Gears of War 3 since release, with my buddies.
Last night and today they couldn't join. So I played some Assassin's Creed II.
This morning I played some Gears of War 3 because of the Hardcore Weekend.
And I wanted to switch back to AC2, when I put the disc in, no problem so far. I waited for the game to load but nothing happened. All of a sudden a message popped up, Unable to Read the disc try to clean it.

So I grabbed the disc and my dust tissue, and when I turned over the game I saw a huge scratch on the back (perfect circle) and I started to panic, because I'm a student and I can't allways afford it to buy a new disc. Now I'm not using my Xbox to be 100% sure it's safe to use with other games, and just a mistake I made by accidentally bumped it (Im 90% sure I didn't not bumped to my console.)

What should I do ?

I believe this is caused by a actual design flaw inside the 360 (Microsoft cut some parts to save money)

Call them and be all pissed maybe they'll do something.

Listen to megma42, if there is not a game shop around you, pawn shops usually do it as well. The one around here does it for $1.50 a disc.

my first xbox caused circle rings on a couple games. it was a known problem. I didn't really bother trying to fix the machine, I ended up getting a new one.

you should probably look towards a new unit or install every game before playing it, because most likely it will happen again with other games.

Was sent a refurb unit after having my first go in for RROD and it scratched disc like that. Put an old cd in the second time just to be sure and yeah the unit proceeded to grind (loudly) a perfect circle into it. Then that lovely call to Microsoft as they claim I must have shaken the system. Get your game resurfaced but definitely do some test with old dvds or something you don't care about.

i remember researching this back when my old xbox was damaging all my discs (i hadnt been moving the system or anything, it was faulty), and came across a video where the guy put a little piece of foam or whatever inside the disc tray, and he demonstrated by purposely flipping the 360 and hearing the noise like it wanted to grind the disc but the foam piece prevented it from causing the infamous circle scratch. so that might be worth looking into (i had alrdy purchased a new xbox though, reminds me i should probably try doing it anyways to prevent any damage if my box ever gets moved or hit while a disc is in) its too bad microsoft never thought of this ahead of time, i've lost so many discs to it.

I do not have the old xbox, I got the latest design, which can only screw up the discs when you move it while playing, but I'm happy its AC2 and nog GoW3.

If you got a Family Video around I'd take it there. It is $1.99 to have it cleaned, although they always seem to charge me $1. Regardless it does a great job and usually will get most of the scratch out. My brother had his NHL 11 and another game messed scratched up a few months back and they came out looking like new with only one of them having even a faint trace of the scratch. Both played fine though considering that neither would play beforehand.
