I just got my new apartment this Tuesday. It's pretty nice, and the people mind their own business. The Landlord told me I'm on of the youngest tenants in the complex. (19) It's me and my girlfriend. the reason for the move was to be next to the university to finish school and get their faster. only problem is my job is like 13 miles away. And the only thing that sucks is i'm kind of broke after buying all the furniture & deposit. I had to cancel a few games i pre-ordered like Prototype and Infamous because of the move. but it feels good to be independent! hopefully in the next month from now I will be back to where I started. I just hope nothing drastic happens like loosing my job or getting broken into.

Anyone have any advise on security devices or precautions? Area seems safe but you never know. :cold:

Yeah, I second renter's insurance for theft, flood damage etc. Plus it's extremely cheap in comparison to homeowner's insurance so nothing to worry about there.

Congrats on your own place. Hope you & your gf enjoy it. :bouncy:

Sure, if he wants to venture into real estate; that's how I got started. And to the OP, if you want to protect yourself (or rather more appropriately, insure your possessions), keep receipts of any major stuff you buy (like tvs, game consoles, furniture, etc.) and take photos (or better, use video) of them with you inside the apartment. Save the data on whatever flash card your camera is using and leave the card somewhere safe like a trusted nearby relative (but preferably somewhere more secure like a bank). It makes it easier to justify reimbursements from your insurance.
