I need Advice on HDMI Cables

Erathaol

CAGiversary!
I recently got my PS3 Slim Bundle from Amazon, I made the mistake of forgetting to buy an HDMI cable for it. I was thinking of getting one cheap from Fry's tomorrow but I wanted to see if anyone knew of a better place to get an HDMI cable. I'm thinking of spending anywhere from $10-30, preferably somewhere in between. I wanted a quality but my wallet can't really flex to well. I would like to know things like brands, prices or stores with good deals.

Any advice would be most hopeful. Thank You.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong- but my understanding of HDMI is this - you are either getting the signal, or you aren't. All the gold plating in the world won't improve the picture quality. So as long as the cable is working- you are getting the optimum picture quality.

correct, the only thing I found is that some cables fit looser than others, but it has nothing to do with price. Don't spend more than 10.00 on a cable.:D

All of my cables for all of my current equipment has come from Monoprice, and I've been more than happy with everything they've sent me. All of their cables are lifetime warrantied.

6' HDMI cable in black: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3992&seq=1&format=2 ; $4.09 for the cable and $2.92 for first-class shipping.

Main page for all of their HDMI cables:

Plenty of lengths and colors to pick from. You'd only need one of the 28 AWG cables, so you can save your money on the more expensive ones.

I overheard a salesman at Target telling a couple that if they wanted to run 1080p they needed a more expensive cable. I wanted to choke him.

I agree that it is a wast to spend more than a few bucks on an HDMI cable.
Best Buy was successful in selling my dad a $60 one to plug his laptop into his new monitor - we wont even talk about the fact that he has no intention to ever do that... anyway...
From my experience, when using the ps3, a cable that cost .01 on amazon works just as good as the $60 one from Best Buy. BUT...
when just watching TV or something, and the HDMI cable is still plugged in there is a bit of static on my Toshiba LCD. Er I should say A 'static bar' that runs up my tv.
From what I read -could be bullshit - it has something to do with how the cable it "coated" or protected.
However, on my Samsung plasma, there is no such distortion.
On the Toshiba, I simply unplug it when not using it... better than spending $60.

Sorry for the longwinded explanation, just through I would share my experience.
So the moral of the story - find one for a penny on Amazon

Now now. Save the violence for the idiots fighting over microwaves and Zhu Zhu Pets.

As for me, I'm still debating(and probably will be till it ends up sold out locally knowing how much of a procrastinator I am:roll:)buying the 21.5" Acer Full HD LCD monitor with HDMI @ Target to use with my $8 Sony HDMI cable I got from Kmart on clearance.

But like I said, I'm probably going to wait just a couple days too long and it'll be sold out or they discontinue the sale on it earlier than Feb 2010.

Best buy sold me a dynex HDMI only because my monoprice ones were in the mail. Once I got them dynex went back to BB. Monoprice cables in my :360:, :ps3:, and cable box.

If you have 2 HDMI wires and a male to male adapter (to make your hdmi wire long) does that do anything negative to the graphics?

It really shouldnt unless theres something wrong with one of those compnents.

Anyway, I think the only thing Ive heard that differentiates HDMI cables is their letter scale, (A,B,C I think), but even then, most of the stuff today is either B or C which if i read correctly, are the highest level. And i think the only difference between A and B (or C) is an issue with 7.1 audio or something. In other words, get the cheapest shit possible cause it doenst make a difference.

It gives you three possible points of failure with two cables and an adapter instead of just one with a single cable.

By the time you'd buy a male-to-male adapter and a second cable, it'll probably be the cost of the new, longer cable.

MONOPRICE!

... Oh... wait. Sorry. That's become my kneejerk reaction to cable threads.
